Video Game Plotlines

I like videogames - but my favorite games are the ones that have thick, deep plotlines that you have to wade through, and pay attention to. My favorite game series consists of:

Silent Hill: Really interesting plot line, very deep. I like how each of the games tie together, but use different protagonists.

Legacy Of Kain: I like the idea that each game is tied together by the powers of one character (Moebius, and his time-travelling abilities) while it was other characters who actually changed the fate of Nosgoth.

Max Payne: I like cop dramas. I like metaphors and alliteration. I like dark and gritty. So sue me.

Prince of Persia: Loved this series - I love how the first one never happened, the second one made sure the first one never happened, and the third one happened because the first two never happened.

Metal Gear Solid: Awesome in video game series form. I love how they can take the straight "Terrorists are going to attack us with nukes" and make it into something new, and different.

What are your favorite games?

I personally really like the original GoWs plotline (more so than the second at least). You figure out pretty early on that you're playing a ruthless bastard, but it's not until you get far enough through it that you start to understand why Kratos is the man he is and you kind of start to feel sorry for him.

Really well plotted I thought.

Final Fantasy Tactics - very deep, with political and religious betrayals.

I definitely second the Prince of Persia games.

Suikoden 1 had a very good plot.

I really loved Planescape : Torment and KOTOR 2 for their plots. All the fun of discussing the subjectivity of viewpoints/morality in videogame format.

Plots are really important in most games I play. Without one...I either get bored and/or sick of its constant predictability and cliché.

1. The .Hacks (GU and basic), one of the best series I've ever played. The plot line was...astounding. I couldn't describe this one's plot. The ending of four was shocking and the GUs hasn’t disappointed me yet.

2. Xenosaga Saga, it's really high on my fav list too (despite the ending...). The plot was really nice. It surprised me many times, (loved the like to the bible at the end)

3. Fire Emblem, bit cliché, but I still like the constant plots. Path of Radiance had a particularly nice one, what with the politics thrown in.

4. Final Fantasy 10-2. Yes I did like this one. The plot was nice, slightly predictable, but it had touching moments.

I suppose I like games that have plots similar to books.

I definitly second the Metal Gears. They do a great job at having tons of plot.

As do II, III, and V.

I like Shadow Hearts (the first two especially) for mixing serious drama, romance, horror, and slapstick. And how many games take place in the 'real' world?

For me a good plot line has to be understandable.

Thus Silent Hill 2 is out. that's just a retarded bunch of monkeypoo.

I'd have to go with KOTOR 2. I haven't played the first one, but the second ones plot was nice, in my opinion, and I actually looked forward to seeing what was going to happen.

I also enjoyed the hell out of FF12. I really should finish that game...

I've only played Suikoden V myself; I liked it since it had some politics and those Strategy War type battles.

Never played the first shadow hearts either, but I do like the second. Though Karen's ending was certainly weird...time paradox anyone?

I thought SH2 was the best so far. The characters were in depth, and the monsters suited them:

Angela - Angela's Daddy
Eddy - ...Eddy
Maria - James
James - Pyramid Head

Pyramid head was the scariest enemy in a game that I have ever come accross. The game itself keeps the player moving, going to the Brookhaven Hospital where Mary was hospitalized to the Hotel where James and Mary stayed during their visits. It detailed the history of the town, Pyramid head, and it shed a lot more light on the series itself.

How can you say that that's a bad thing?
