Voice Overs

It is time. I Meddros, have finally succumb to wanting to do voice overs in my animations.
So here's the scoop. I need two voices at the moment. I need a Black Belt and I need a Black Mage. If you want to try out for either of these two parts please read from the following two pieces of script...

For Black belt...

BB: "You've offended White Mage for the last time, villain!"

BB: -- "Stand and face me, o unmannered one!"

BB: "Cower in fear, for you shall taste the iron fists of fury, reprehensible spawn of persons unknown!!" (Pause) ".... as soon as I find you..."

For Black Mage...

BM: "Hey, Fighter!! C'mere!" (the word C'mere is a shorten version of Come here.)

BM: "OK Fighter if you could just go in there and get me a piece of pie."

BM: "Well, he's not dead yet."

Please try to keep all recordings clean as possible by either not talking directly into the micorphone (as it makes weird distorted sounds of breathing and wind blowing, I myself hold the microphone just off to the side of my mouth). And please speak clearly and loud enough for me to hear.
If you want to try several different versions with the same character I am all for it. I may even as you too as well.
When saving the files please also make them small. You can E-mail me your auditions at Meddros@aol.com or you can e-mail me just a link.

We at Spin Off will be making the finial calls as to what we are looking for and will reserve the right to change them at any time. Enter as often as you like, offer expires while you wait operators are standing by.

Oh and DON'T PANIC. Just have fun. :)

This thread may be updated as needed.

Also of note, Black Belt is not asian. So don't bother sending in clips with a mock oriental accent.

Its insulting to people from that part of the world, and besides which, you'll never be able to come up with one that's nearly as bad as mine. So again, don't bother.

And if anyone can pull it off, a decent imitation of Invader Zim might land you the role of Black Mage. Brian once suggested that's what he envisioned as what BM sounds like, and I happen to agree with such distinction.

As for BB, I personally envision him as sounding like Guybrush Threepwood of Monkey Island 3-4 or Scott Adams, the Dilbert writer. But that's only my suggestion, and it counts for nothing.

Of course, there is a guy I used to know, who now upon thinking of it, would be perfect for the role, but I happen to know he's disappointly has grown up and has a family/life of his own. If I do consider pestering him, its all your fault Meddros, and I blame you entirely.

I knew there was I reason I keep you on the payrole! Wait a minute I don't have a payrole hope none of the others find out.
Everything SWB has said is true about the characters (I get ahead of myself sometimes, which is really scary when I look back and there I am) but I digress.

Egads! A mighty flood of voice auditions shall sweep the forums once more with numerous spin-off threads of people who want others to listen how they say the lines. Be brave, Nuklearpower forums. Be brave...

I don't think I'd make a good black mage or black belt.... I'll wait until other characters are needed to show off my omnipotent voice-acting skeelz!

Payroll?

...

This wouldn't be the same payroll that Brian has, would it? The one with all sorts of taxes & somesuch that wind up having me owe you something like $4,000 in various fees?

(I *KNEW* I should have read that contract better...)

Also, C. Thief does bring up a good point. If you don't think you've got a good BM/BB voice, its very likely that Meddros will heartily agree, so it might not be worth either of your troubles. If that's the case, don't bother.

And one last thing, Meddros isn't directly associated with the 8-Bit Theater re-cap movies, so winning a voice actor roll with him won't necessarily land you a role with them.

Then again, it might. Odder things have been known to happen.

A note to those of you who suddenly feel you aren't what we are looking for and then have to tell us about it.

You won't know until you try.

I will be the deciding what is and what isn't (with the help of my overly sarcastic staff. It will be like a "American Idol" Spin Off. Only not.

Please don't be discouraged and please try. You may not make it but you never know.

You convinced me... maybe because your speech was heartwarming and encouraging... maybe because I'm bored and I have nothing to do... either way, I'll try for one or both of them... will post later...

I disagree to some extent Meddros. Once the try-outs start to come in, if you start to find yourself flooded, you might sing a different tune.

If a person honestly doesn't think he/she can do a Black Mage/Black Belt voice, I really don't think you'll think otherwise. However, I'm not suggesting that a person should bow out just because he/she thinks his or her voice stupid, or because the person is shy.

Personally, my suggestion is that *EVERYONE* who's even slightly interested record their voice, and play it back to themselves. If you like the result, then send it along to Meddros. If you don't like the result, try playing around, giving yourself a mock accent & whatnot.

If it still doesn't sound right, then maybe the roles of BM & BB aren't for you (I know I certainly can't manage anything that sounds right).

- Besides Meddros, if it ends up being that nobody sends anything worthwhile in, then you can always recycle this thread, and take all try-outs instead of being as picky as I'm suggesting...

I just can't see BM sounding like Zim. Maybe Fighter sounding a bit like a more-man-then-robot-y Gir and RM a bit like Proffesor Membrane, but never BM and Zim.
