How to classify new consoles
 

My friends and I were standing around local video games stores staring at the new generation consoles: XBox 360, Wii [REVOLUTION], and PlayStation 3.
After much debates we came to the following conclusions to describe the new consoles:

XBox 360: from Justin "is that a humidifier?"
Wii: from Ryan "it's an excuse to beat your girlfriend by 'accident.'"
PS3: myself "I always wanted a George Foreman grill..."

any other thoughts, anyone?

I've always thought of the PS3 as the home entertainment system, and the other two as the ones meant for playing games.

360: a tiny computer
Wii: a gaming console
PS3: a waste of money

That's funny, because I always thought of it as something that I need to work extra hard for.

For those who aren't aware...

I alwasys thouhg of the PS3 as a godamn torture device that'll be starring me in the face for the next 6 months till Christmas!

Ever since 1up published that article, I've thought of the PS3 as a PR nightmare.

I just classify them like this:

I am a dirty, dirty Sony whore. Who wants to buy a Wii.

I think of the PS3 as the Xbox of the next generation. It's vastly more powerful than the competition's consoles, but that just doesn't make it appeal to me.

The 360 is like the PS2 of the next-gen consoles. Not nearly as powerful as the competition, but (given Sony's poor relations with many developers) it will probably end up with the most games.

There's nothing else out there quite like the Wii. I'm interesting in seeing how it turns out...

I think of the 360 as a gaming system all the Japanese companies want to develop for because it has superior technoloy, American userbase (more money seemingly) and standard controls for but can't because in the end it won't produce the real money because Wii is outselling it 3 or 5 to 1 in console sales every month.

I see the PS3 as a system everyone thinks looks amazing...but everyone a year before it came out never thought it could work, eventhough they were lying to themselves and trying to find a way to try to believe it would. Then when Ken and his gang started mouthing off and showing that they had no way to hide that their system was a disaster shortly before launch, the veil was lifted from everyones eyes.

I see the Wii as a system almost everyone doesn't want to really like, even the ones who want to support it. Its inferior in every way, and we all admit it. But on the flip side, ALL the systems have so many flaws this gen that Wii has just come out with such a revolutionary package of new gadgets and so much new stuff that it makes up for its lack of OMG POWER and LAZER EYE SURGERY additions. And when it comes down to it, its 'cheap innovations' are fun and have lasting appeal. And it seems like, if things go benign, nearly all Japanese support, is going to soon be going to Nintendo. So pretty much Wii might end up turnning from a quirky GC2 into a Dreamcast/PS2/SNES combined. But only if sales go as they are of course.

I'm a dirty, filthy Sony whore - I halfta go with the PS3, just because of MGS4, and I like most of the game titles for the PS3 - which aren't really there anymore... But at least MGS4 will look pretty.

But I'm going to buy a Wii because think it's kinda cool - a few friends have one, and it's neat to control various components of the game via infrared sensors - and Wario Ware is very fun.

The 360... I live with a bias of this system because of all the breakdowns its counterpart had.
