What Fantasy Books Are Awesome?

Imma be the first to nominate The Blending Series, by Sharon Green. They combine fantasy and elemental politics with magic in a way that's interesting and original. I find that it's a great read.

Quote:

"In a world of magical adepts, every quarter-century the five talents must he brought only this powerful union of can prevent the prophesied return of the Evil Ones who once enslaved the land."

Lorand is of "Earth," a simple farmer called to the city. Tamrissa is "Fire," sacrificing her home to escape an undesired marriage. Clarion is "Air," an aristocrat flying free for the very first time. "Spirit" is the talent of Jovvi, the beautiful, sensuous, and knowing ex-courtesan. And Vallant is "Water," a sailor who aches to return to the sea.

As one, they must stand against the odious treachery of past masters -- and confront a fearsome depravity that hungers for their world. As one they must triumph...or as one they die.
What're your favorit fantasy books and why?

Definitly both the Wheel of Time series, as well as the Song of Ice and Fire series in the realm of epic fantasy.

If anyone says Eragon, I will be unhappy.

Hmm...

Tad Williams Green Angel Tower series is solid. Fritz Lieber's Fahfrd and the Gray Mouser stories are pretty much required reading for all fantasy fans. Michael Moorcock's Elric books were pretty good. Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea books are good too.

Currently I'm reading David Drake's Lord of the Isles series. So far it's decent, although the same crap seems to happen to some of the characters in each book, which is sorta annoying.

Do the Discworld novels count? Because of they do, allow me to be the first to mention them.

When Salvatore isn't counting his money from Drizz't, he actually wrote alot of personal-world books. Crimson Shadow trilogy is still my favorite.

Does ender's game count?

The Wheel of Time, in my opinion, is awesome in every sense of the word.

Lord of the Rings, of course, also kicks all kinds of ass, (stupid movies, cutting out the good parts) and I feel like I should mention Shannara, since that's what got me started reading the stuff in the first place.

I greatly enjoyed the Magic Kingdom For Sale series, my Father got me started on those when I was young.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, is series that everyone should read, no matter what, it is by Stephen R. Donaldson. The series constsists of 2 trilogies, with a third in the making and is by far my favorite. Other may entertain me, some may immenrse me in their worlds, but nothing tops the feeling of these books.

Dragonlance. The characters are just great and the world has a pretty neat backstory and history. Great series.

All the books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series are by far the best books I have ever read.
