Dungeon: Interest Thread/Sign up

The Dungeon exists in the hidden folds of space and time. Its denziens range from the monstrous to the devastatingly beautiful, each level is a world of its own. All those trapped within have two things in common; They are more cunning and deadly than anything you have ever imagined, and they are also captives of the whim of the Dungeon Masters. Some have given up hope of escaping, or have found their true calling here and made it their home. Others still seek an escape, striving to get out and be free of the twisted mechinations of the Masters. You have been lured in for the amusement that can be drawn from your struggles for life and eventual despairing end. Around any corner your fate may greet you, at the hands of another prisoner, promised rewards for your death, in the jaws of a dinasaur or cold vacuum of space. Can you make it out with your life?

If enough people are interested (I'm thinking 6-7 frequent posters) I'd like to give this a go.

Dungeon is a Sci-fi/ Fantasy RP, the basic premise is you have been selected and lured into the Dungeon. Due to its nature you can be from any time, any dimension and from any world. Magic is going to be limited to a single ability that is innate to your PC, but may develop with time. Your character should have flaws, talents and goals that will make them more interested in working together to get out of the Dungeon and back home, so no evil sociopaths (I get to play those).

You will have just been brought into the Dungeon, something will have drawn you into an entrance (these can be anywhere, a back ally door you ran into to escape something, a puddle you thought would be fun to jump into...) and depending on your character you are either forcefully captured by servants of the DM's (I know its cheesy but that is what they were called in the book series I'm vaguelly basing this off of), tricked into entering or went willingly to test yourself for some reason. Language will be an issue to start with, but I'll say more about that and many things later.

For characters I'd like to see:

Name:...Yeah, what should we call you?

Gender: Chick, Dude, something in between, N/A?

Species: What the heck are you anyway?

Appearance: What do you look like, what do you wear...and what the heck is that hanging off your back?

Tech Level/Time period: What time period are you from? What level of technology are you familiar with?

Home: Where are you from? What was it like there? What is your language?

Equipment/Belongings: What do you have on you when you are trapped?

Skills/Knowledge: What do you know? What can you do? As far as powers go keep them weak with side effects or limited.

Backstory: This should include enough for me to get to know you, what drives you, how were you trapped, what is it at home that makes you need to fight through the Dungeon to get there?

Strengths/Weaknesses: Pretty self explanitary (added thanks to you guys!)

This is my first attempt at running an online RP, so questions and suggestions are welcome, just don't be too mean!

EDIT: I would also prefer people who can commit to being around and posting regularly, I like things that go forward.

Also if you'd like some ideas as to what is going on, look up Philip Jose Farmer's: The Dungeon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone who hasn't add the Strengths/Weakness bit to your bio and we will have a round of approvals.
With RK's submission...and now Ten's... and waiting on the RP debut of Satan's Onion;
RP is currently @ 7 of 7 PC's*

*Additional PC's may be added due to deaths, drop outs or a really cool character idea...

Name: Percival "Perry" Chrysopoeia

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Appearance: Stands around 5'11, with a monk's build and a shaved head. Tattoos adorn his arms, mostly red-tinted lizardly things. His left hand up to his elbow has been replaced by a bronze appendage.

Tech Level/Time period: Steampunk

Home: A world of eldritch magiks comingling with rising technology, Perry's home is governed by the clashing of magic's history and technology's progress. Four dragons serve as creator-gods, with sects of the world worshiping and serving them.

Equipment/Belongings: Perry had been undergoing a rite of passage, and as such is only equipped with a simple set of monk's clothes and his copper short sword.

Skills/Knowledge: Perry is a magewright apprentice, training in arts that combine magic and technology. Although he has not yet started his advanced lessons, he is currently able to produce an electric charge through metal objects, most notably his copper arm and sword.

Backstory: Percival is the latest progeny of the Chrysopoeia line. Throughout the centuries, the Chyrsopoeia have been dedicated members of the Red Dragon's Claw, a stalwart corps of magewrights dedicated to their Dragon's safety and might.

Unfortunately, Percival's father was a bit of a disappointment; Although he treasured his family and homeland and deified his draconic lord, his ambition far outweighed his talent. In fact, were it not for Perry's grandfather and the great pull he commanded, his father would probably have been rejected from joining the Claw, and once he became an established member he was relegated to the depths of the research sector where it was thought he would cause the least damage. After a few years, the clumsy magewright found true love and Percival was born.

While attending the unveiling of his father's latest invention, Percival got a front row seat to his family's unraveling. Whether the parts were assembled wrong or the device's very structure unsound, the resulting magic-fueled explosion wrought havoc on those in attendance. Although no lives were snuffed out, Perry lost his left arm, his mother and sister were disfigured, and his father was thrown into a catatonic state.

Ever since then, his family decried as outcasts and inferior, Perry has made it his mission to restore the Chrysopoeia family name. He fashioned a new arm, crafted his own weapon, and now seeks to join the Red Dragon Claws on his own terms.

When he first entered the initiation area's door, Perry thought that he had entered the traditional rite grounds, not expecting to end up in an extra-planar Dungeon.

Cool, I like the backstory. Approved!

Feel free to get as involved as you want on your backstory, the more I know the more I can twist things to give your PC a "good run."

Astral Harmony 06-30-2007 04:31 PM

Name: Nexen VI

Gender: Female Model

Species: Android

Appearance: Starting at the center, Nexen looks like a voluptuous naked woman with beautiful white hair and a quite a blue/bright grey skin coloration. Beyond her shoulders, above her head, behind her back, and below her waist is where the armor and battle systems begin. The armor is large, imposing and bright blue in color. The right arm in a large pair of razor sharp scissors, six feet in length. The left arm ends in a large energy slug cannon capable of applying many different types of ammunition. The legs feature two separate joints and end in metallice hooves that can deliver a lot of force. The head unit above Nexen's female head processes lots of tactical data, and the back unit connects and supports the whole apparatus.

At her time of capture, she was stripped of her armor and primary weapons by the servants of the DM. Underneath her arm and leg armor are normal arms, legs, hands and feet. Since being stripped of her weapons, she wears whatever she's been supplied with by the servants of the DM, whether it be simple cloth and chains or perhaps nothing at all.

She has altered her skin and hair coloration and nows look like an achingly beautiful blonde woman with violet eyes and curves that won't quit. A beautiful body is just one more weapon a woman can use to get what she needs, after all.

Tech Level/Time Period: Futuristic Sci-Fi

Home: Transcender II, a large colony spacecraft. Holds approximately thirty-million people and its own personal space fleet and army. Nexen VI is one of three androids on this colony ship. Transcender II resembles a large circular spacestation with a massive bubble in the center that features a miniature planet within, completely covered in a cityscape and having its own atmosphere.

Equipment/Belongings: Nexen's primary weapons before capture featured six foot long Guillotine Scissors and a large Plasma Slug Cannon. Her shoulder armor featured two long range Surface-To-Air missile racks. Her hooves could be used as a battering ram and her head armor allowed her to predict future motions of targets and could hack electronics. At the base of her hooves is a propulsion system which allows for boost attacks. With all this gone now, she has no equipment or belongings (that were hers to begin with) whatsoever.

Skills/Knowledge: Nexen is proficient in all weapons during the time of her "birth" to the days of swords and longbows. She's an exceptional fighter with every weapon she is familiar with or with no weapon at all. However, where she really excels is her speed and reflexes.

Unfortunately, prolonged combat can leave her exhausted when separated from her back unit which houses the primary power source for her and her equipment. As battle drags on, Nexen's combat potential will become sluggish all around, eventually leaving her unable to defend herself from her own enemies.

Backstory: When it's time to send someone into an area that is clearly dangerous for the first time to perhaps find something of worth, Nexen units like VI are usually handpicked for the task. Nexen VI's mission was to search a mysterious planet to see if it could be terraformed or mined for resources. Upon landing at a dropzone in the humid marshlands, Nexen made numerous observations for the Transcender II. As the last leg of her operation, Nexen ventured into an extensive series of ruins, built by a long dead civilization or perhaps a nomadic one that simply didn't live on the planet anymore.

In the deepest area of the ruins, which Nexen didn't get to without her fair share of fighting hostile but not very dangerous wildlife, she discovered an ancient device. Upon the directives of her superiors, Nexen worked on the device and got it to function...and that was the last she ever reported to her superiors. After the bright light faded, Nexen was clearly in a new place, uncharter and completely cut off from the Transcender II. Her communitions and emergency signals weren't getting through. While trying to explore the new world she found herself in, Nexen was set upon and eventually overcome by the servants of the DM. Now, stripped of her gear, Nexen VI formed her own objectives:
1: Recover her equipment.
2: Get the hell out of here.
Supplemental: Kick the shit out of everything that gets in her way.

Strengths: As a sleek android, she is fast and durable. She is also skilled in numerous weapons.

Weaknesses: Her damage dealing potential isn't up to par and, with the primary power supply in her back unit gone, prolonged combat can leave her drained and weak.

Demetrius 06-30-2007 04:47 PM

AB, what are her weaknesses? Does the lack of her constant connection leave her seeking companionship, or is her time limited due to power needs? I need a couple weaknesses to be incorperated, not necissarily physical, but something that makes her more "real."

Other than that I like it!

Zilla 06-30-2007 05:39 PM

Name: "Zilla", at least that's all you need to call her.

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Appearance: She wears glasses, and has brown hair that touches her shoulders under a fedora. She's about 5'11".

Tech Level/Time period: Slightly Neo-Modern, about 30 years from now.

Home: Zilla comes from a large urban development that sprung up around a technicallity of zoning issues in the Pacific Ocean, leaving a rather large island unclaimed by any nation. As this island was not subject to any international law, many rogue scientists and criminals escaped to it. In short order, the resident scientists developed heavy weapons with which they asserted their independance, and the island became a haven for technology development with a criminal taint. Zilla was born on this island, raised amidst the small-scale war for independance, and eventually found a job as a weapons specialist.

Equipment/Belongings: Zilla was only carrying an experimental handgun when she took a detour to the testing rooms that somehow warped her to the dungeon. It's a sub-machine gun with a 32 round clip of bullets tested to fire at extreme velocity for massive damage.

Skills/Knowledge: Zilla knows firearms. A LOT about firearms. She's halfway decent when it comes to fitness as well, having grown up amidst a conflict that almost classifies as war. She's acrobatic and flexible, though not exactly the best in a toe-to-toe fight with a stronger opponent.

Backstory: Zilla had her fingers in the crime elements that ran out of New Haven, as well as a well-known firearms manufacturer on the island. She was in charge of some R&D in the plant, and occasionally, she mixed her two professions by smuggling out some goods to her crime rings. On some particular day, while sneaking an experimental SMG out of the lab, she was discovered by her employer, who had known about the missing guns she'd run before. There was a brief chase, where she ran through a door she'd not seen or used before, and it landed her in the dungeon.

Now, Zilla is more concerned about her survival than anything about her jobs back in New Haven. However, she does have a hidden agenda she's been slowly working on to expand New Haven to more lands and free the world from the police-states that have developed there. She did her best in this ambition by working on secret projects for the New Haven military, but there were some conflicts of interest, pushing her to resort to the criminal elements to do some of her work.

Weaknesses: She's selfish, and a bit greedy for power. She's also not very skilled at hand-to-hand combat. She can't stand thinking things through much, and results in a lot of impulsive behavior.

Strengths: She is good at improvisation, as a result of not planning ahead. She is deadly accurate with guns, and she's very sneaky.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 06-30-2007 06:34 PM

By GM permission, I present to you the one, the only...

Name: Hawk, AKA, the Hawk of Battle.

Gender: Male.

Species: Human.

Appearance: 5'8, caucasion, short dark hair. Wears a simple plain black shirt, a thin dark blue jacket and jeans. On his feat he wears heavy steel toe capped boots.

Tech Level/Time period: Errm, all of them?

Home: Hawk originates from the year 152042, from the planet Earth. It was an incredibly advanced society and for the most part it was at peace. Even though there was war raging Earth was protected by a temporal shield keeping it out of sync with the rest of time and space. He has no home any more though, as Earth was destroyed in the time war leaving Hawk as the only survivor from the period, constantly on the move from one time period to another in an attempt to fight and end the war on his own.

Equipment/Belongings: Carries two guns in holsters on his hips; the right holster carries his .45 Peacemaker single action army, a six shooter he had crafted back in the old west. His left holster contains a souped up Gloch 18 fully automatic pistol, called the Warbringer. The magazines of this gun are equiped with technology that folds space and allows for massive interiors for ammo storage, giving each magazine hundreds of rounds.

The only other weapon he carries is his "tech-blade", the Ascalon, a crescent shaped blade which can transform into a halberd like weapon or a large scythe. It also folds down into itself until only the hilt remains. The hilt has its own special holster attached to Hawks right forearm.

On his left arm is his Timelink*/Multitool** device, which allows for his time travel and allows for his computer hacking needs. The multitool can access any compatible computer software and can also call up information on places, times, people or objects that the TAE have any knowledge of. It also comes with built in sensors for limited scanning functions.

Skills/Knowledge: Hawk is a fully trained time warrior and is well versed in many forms of armed and unnarmed combat, there's isn't a weapon made that Hawk cannot master. He is also a great tactician and has a wide knowledge of advanced technology and vehichles.

Backstory: Hawk joined the TAE (Temporal Alliance of Earth) when he was 15 and began his training to become a time warrior. But the agency, and Earth, was betrayed and destroyed by an agent of "The Enemy", who was also Hawks mentor, Cort. Since the destruction of his people Hawk has travelled from one planet to another, one time period to another, trying to end the war that has engulfed the entire universe. His second objective is to kill the traitor Cort, if he's even still alive. He has become a bitter and lonely man, somewhat blaming himself for the deaths of the human race. He has an outright hatred for Cort and will stop at nothing to kill him if he ever finds him.

It has been 3 years, from Hawks point of view, since the destruction of Earth.***

Strengths/Weaknesses: Excells at combat and battlefield strategy. Is incredibly intelligent.

His biggest weakness is perhaps his overconfidence, which regularly gets him into trouble.

*I will have the Timelink functions of the device burnt out and in need of repair in my opening post, so as to prevent my escape from the dungeon.

**Seeing as the device needs to know what software a system is running, and seeing as this dungeon is outside of known Creation, it is probably unlikely to be of any use as anything other than a simple scanner. But I figured I best inform you of the two devices from the off anyway, even though they will probably not be used.

***3 Years after the events of the Great Downfall makes this a younger Hawk than has previously been seen in the Avvy RPs. In other words, prior to being cursed and then meeting the NPFers. He also doesn't yet have the Omnigun, the wrist blades, or the various knives that his future self has.

Ryu Kurai 07-01-2007 06:16 AM

Man, I love my insomnia sometimes.

Name: Shirojii (White man, a name Shirojii thinks makes him sound old.), aka "Shirokii" ("White force", A nickname Shirojii devised himself and much prefers over his real name.)

Gender: Male

Species: Fox spirit or Kitsune

Apearance: Variable, Natural form is a white furred fox around 2 1/2' tall at the shoulder and about 5' long to the tip of the tail. Eyes fluctuate from gold to red depending on his emotional state. He also has a small skull on a string around his neck, and a small white pearl that appears to be part of his tail.

Tech Level/ Time period: Meiji era Japan

Home: Shirojii lives in the forests outside of Kyoto, often getting a free stay at an inn by tricking humans with his cunning.

Equipment/ Belongings: A small monkey skull on a string around the neck, a single Hoshi no Tama (Star Ball, a kind of pearl many Kitsune carry) on the tail. This Hoshi no Tama is incredibly important: without it, Shirojii cannot perform most of his magical abilities without considerable effort, and if separated from it for a year he will die.

Skills/ Knowledge: Shirojii is an excellent poet, having lived nearly 800 years. He commonly writes poetry about the predictable nature of the human psyche. He has also mastered the art of moving silently, without any magical aids. He also knows a great deal about other demons and about the Shinto religion. Concerning countries other than Japan, he has heard only rumors.

Magical Abilities: As an aged fox, Shirojii possesses the following magical abilities: Flight: Similar to levitation, Shirojii must concentrate to utilize this ability. If his concentration is broken, he falls.

Kistunebii (Fox Fire): The fox using this ability can cause its own fur to ignite (not causing itself any harm), spit balls of fire from its mouth or send lightning streaking out from its tail. Shirojii can only do this in his natural form.

Kitsunetsuki (Fox Possession): This is the ability of some foxes to possess living creatures, exercising some degree of control over them. Shirojii only likes to possess beautiful women. When possessing a victim, the fox grows terribly hungry, and attempts to find and eat Tofu and Aburage, as well as many other foods that superstitious folk believe foxes like. In reality, these foods give the fox more control over the victim. Possessed victims often yelp like foxes, and large lumps appear below the skin that slide around if agitated. The fox feels as much pain as the victim, so beating the victim can be used to draw the fox out. Strong-willed people may be able to force it out of them as well.

Illusion Creation: Foxes have the ability to create very convincing illusions. Provided they can see or otherwise sense the victim, they can alter what they perceive with a degree of concentration. Shirojii's favorite illusions include thick fog and dancing fires in the dark.

Shape Changing: Shirojii is capable of doing this only by placing a skull on top of his head. He does this to transform into a human shape, which is of his choosing. He likes to appear as an attractive woman or as an adult male. He reverts back to his natural form partially if he is injured or greatly surprised.

Backstory: Shirojii was born as one of the Rice God Inari's guardian foxes, and as a pup he lived at one of his shrines, being brought offerings daily by the people of the village. He would often play with the shrine priestess and other small creatures who lived near the shrine. After he became an adult, Inari visited him in a dream. He told Shirojii that he was to recieve a boon from him, and requested that he always use it to help humans. Shirojii agreed, and when he awoke, he held a small pearl in his mouth. The shrine priestess rejoiced, seeing this as a sign from Inari, and the village held a feast to celebrate.

During this feast, a wild fox happened by, and beckoned to Shirojii from the edge of town. Shirojii, still holding the pearl in his mouth. The fox asked him if he knew how to use the pearl. Shirojii shook his head no, being honest and fairly trusting, thinking the wild fox also served Inari. The fox asked if Shirojii would like him to teach Shirojii how to use the orb. Shirojii opened his mouth to accept the fox's offer, and the fox snatched the orb before it hit the ground, disappearing into the night. Embarrased and angry, Shirojii spent a whole night looking for him, at last giving up as the sun rose.

Weeks went by, and numerous folks in the village were claiming their food had been stolen, their crops were withering and various strange things had been happening. Shirojii patrolled the village tirelessly, knowing that the fox who had stole his pearl was behind the occurrences. He spied his one night eating a chicken, the pearl resting close by. Anger overtook Shirojii, and he pounced the fox, ripping and slashing with his teeth and claws. The racket awoke many of the townspeople, who arrived to see Shirojii and the fox fighting. Shirojii clamped down on the other fox's throat at last, choking him to death. With it's dying breath, the fox managed to cough out that Shirojii had still failed the village, and that the fox's doings were as his own.

Shirojii knew that these words were true, and ashamed, he fled the village with the pearl. He lived alone, eventually coming to act much as the fox he had killed did, tricking humans instead of helping them.

Ok, one more and we can get this show on the road. As you finish your profiles I will PM you your entrance into the dungeon, what you share from those is up to you, use the information wisely and feel free to discuss your own version of the events that lead you into the Dungeon with me via PM.

Tendronai 07-01-2007 08:23 AM

I'll try doing one of these. Tell me if it doesn't make sense or whatever.

NAME: Morin.

GENDER: Male

SPECIES: Human

APPEARANCE: Morin usually dresses in drab clothes, with a black cape.

TECH LEVEL: The world Morin comes from does have computer technology, yet relies on classic weapons for combat.

HOME: Morin hails from the world of Shengal, which shares many of the physical traits of Earth. Magic is fairly common here, so physical weapons are usually seen as a last resort.

EQUIPMENT: Morin has his basic traveling gear - a few days rations, a pair of daggers, and some basic supplies (few torches, bedroll, etc.)

SKILLS: Morin is a shadow mage - an illusionist. The cape which he continually wears is a manifestation of his shadow, and affords him better than normal protection. He knows a few direct spells, but most of his power comes from manipulating the shadows around him to alter appearances.

BACKSTORY: Morin was born into a middle-class family, who quickly used their sons magical aptitude to move up in the world be selling him to the Carn Magical Academy. After spending the first fifteen years of his life there, he was allowed to travel for a period of five years before he was expected to return and complete a lifetime of government service. As was typical for most allowed the travel time, he spent this time planning on a way to escape. He has managed to stay free a year longer than permitted, but knows that he will be caught soon. Finding the residue of a dimensional gate, he quickly jumps through to avoid his pursuers.

STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: As mentioned, Morin is a master of illusions. While it does mean that he can trick the weak-minded into thinking that the illusionary fire consuming them is indeed real and thus kill them, it has made him exceedingly paranoid over suspected illusions by others. He can manifest a few real spells to actually harm his enemies should they be successful in disbelieving his illusions, but such drain him greatly. Most importantly, he is weak, and without his magic is a liability to anyone nearby.

EDIT: For extra details about Morin's character

Morin is, at heart, a coward. Running for his life for over a year hasn't done much to improve this, either. He'd rather manipulate things to avoid a fight than actually run a risk of losing.

He also doesn't respect anyone with weaknesses. He was able to escape slavery on his own, and he views anyone who can't as merely weak and useless.

Finally, Morin will do anything to keep his power intact. It's the only reason he's still alive, and he fears even losing a portion of it would result in his death at some point.
