Cloverfield... First big budget Cthulhu Mythos movie?
Having just watched Transformers, I remembered a little teaser before the movie began, nameless yet somewhat intriguing. Wandering around blogs and visiting the Wikipedia entry, it seems to give a Cthulhu vibe. Could this be it? Or maybe just another Godzilla flick? What are your thoughts?

Looks more like Lavos.

It seems to me that it's original, as no one reports mysterious liscensing of any properties or the like, which would pop up if it was Cthulhu/Godzilla/Voltron/Whatever. Also, imdb reports that the monster is reffered to as the "Parasite", which doesn't sound familiar.
I mean, I really hope this is a Cthulhu movie, but I doubt it. |
I really hope this is an original movie. You have no idea how much I want this to be totally new.

J.J. clears some stuff up.

... Then what does Ethan Haas go with?
Well, we'll find out August 1st, I guess. Anyways, um. I think it's going to be something original, but also something Lovecraftian. |
Just thought I'd mention that there is already a topic about this here.
Maybe someone should change the name of that topic to make it easier to recognize what it's about, so people won't keep making new ones. |
Well, I'm still leaning towards Cloverfield being a Lovecraftian horror movie in addition to the obvious monster movie.
In the trailer, there is a man wearing a Slusho teeshirt. This beverage also made an appearance on Alias, but more importantly, there is a Slusho website. Checking the Customer Feedback page yields an e-mail address for someone named Satoshi, but I only get an automated reply of "Slusho likes your mails! You Can't Drink Just Six!" My speculation is that you need to e-mail something to Satoshi. Aside from the e-mail, the History page also offers a glimpse into the backstory of Project Cloverfield, if this site is part of the ARG. EDIT: Typo. |

Basis for the movie is actually confirmed, just not a lot of details: it's a giant monster movie but from a Blair Witch-esque perspective, you know, everyday people running around with videocameras as the monster attacks. I'd assume the hero is the guy the surprise party was thrown for, though. The monster has supposedly been referred to as The Parasite. It seems pretty unique to me, just because of how the monster is not shown in the teaser, just the chaos it causes, and how none of the people know what is happening, what's going on, which is automatically unlike most monster movies (cue cliche Japanese man pointing and screaming "GODZILLA!"). I'd venture to guess they might never even show the monster in the movie at all, though that's just out of thin air. Actually, there are TWO untitled J.J. Abrams projects in the works, and Cloverfield is actually thought to NOT be this one, but the proposed The Dark Tower movie or series (J.J. Abrams is confirmed to be going to head the proposed project, whether it be a miniseries or series or set of movies is unconfirmed). The only reason for this is that Cloverfield would be a decent pick for a codeword for that movie, since The Dark Tower is in a field of, not clovers, but roses. But anyway, it's confirmed that he's going to do The Dark Tower project as well as this, and there are two untitled projects in the works for him...so which one it is doesn't really matter, because one plus one makes two. I'm very excited about The Dark Tower movies/whatever, myself. |

Also, this is like the third thread for this teaser. My love for J.J. has been expounded upon many times over, but maybe a thread meld is in order? |
