Okay, RID. What do you think?

I am basically sitting down and asking anyone who cares to give me feedback about my comic. I hit fifty comics last week and I'm honestly curious about what people think. I will continue to do RID regardless of the outcome.

So, please, give me whatever you feel about Roommates in Disguise. Be as honest as you wish about the comic itself. As a warning, however, I ran the thread proposition by Fifthfiend first, who ran it by the mods. He had this to say:

Quote:

It's approved but I want it clarified that people can say what they like about your comic, but standing rules on personal insults / flaming are still in effect. So like, "Fuck your comic," okay fine I mean you're the author and that's apparently what you're asking for; "Fuck your comic and fuck you," no, that's not okay.
So, go ahead and be as honest as you wish about my comic, but unnecessary insults at me still fall under NPF's "No Flames" rule.

Fifthfiend 07-14-2007 07:18 PM

Necessary insults are still totally okay though. So like saying what a stupid jerk you are is cool, cause that totally needs to be said.

Seriously guys see that I just did? None of that.

Mirai Gen 07-14-2007 07:22 PM

I assume this is part of his 'abuse of power', as it were. But, staying on topic, I deem NPF's judgment to be in par with what I feel are "Necessary insults."

Personally, at first I had trouble getting into the series, because I never watched Transformers. But after I saw the movie I also realized that hey, I had never played Final Fantasy before I read 8bit and I got into that okay.

All in all, I like the comic. Most toy comics aren't done as well or cleanly as yours.

Keep it up.

I like your comic too (I damn well better asking you to come join my site!) But it's kind of hard to notice any major storyline- out of your 50 comics, maybe 10 follow some kind of storyline? I love all of them, don't get me wrong on that- but maybe a storyline might help pick it up.

Tendronai 07-14-2007 07:46 PM

I just read them all, and I have to say that I enjoy it. I'd appreciate more continuity, but then, you're only at 50, so it's not like you should have an entire novel for a storyline yet.

Aside from that, though, I really have nothing else that I can critique. I like everything else, even though I never followed Transformers that closely.

Mirai Gen 07-14-2007 08:24 PM

Working on the return of continuity after some silliness in the meantime. I've got a few story arc ideas that I think'll really get things going.

I felt like Bumblebee is little more than a straight man to Grimlock in the comic anyway, and this upcoming story arc will change that a bit.

Lumenskir 07-14-2007 08:29 PM

I too have just read through the 50 comics...

I dunno, I'm not that impressed. It seems like the comedy style can't decide on whether to cater to Transformers fans or merely be a [medium of entertainment] joke-a-strip, ala Penny Arcade with Transformers toys. When it focuses on Transformers I tune out because I'm not versed at all in that realm, but the [medium]-jokes...I dunno, they don't seem that thought out. Maybe I'm comparing it too unfairly to other comics with video-game bases, but when I see punchlines that boil down to "I'm so darn weak willed with these MMOs!", my mind inserts a laugh track, like it's trying too hard. I did however really like the Pokemon sexual innuendo comic.

The characters...I'll give some more time. Bumblebee could be a good straight man if Grimlock or Cannonball were able to be played off of, Megatron could be a funny mainstay if he got more print time and played the "I will rededicate all of my world destroying effort into being a slumlord"-angle really hard. Optimus seems there merely to remind everyone that these guys are still in fact Transformers. Knockoff could become a font of jokes if used as a proper fall guy in Grimlock's shenanigans.

So, that's my take. I hope it's constructive without being too harsh.

Mirai Gen 07-14-2007 08:33 PM

No, actually, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

I must agree with Nikose in here: I read your comic whenever my eyes happen to be directed at your signature, but that would be about once every two weeks. It is funny, but that would not sell it to me alone. Some more (albeit subtle) continuity: nice.

I like the format, though. Although not new, it is very interesting and makes me wonder what logistics are needed to create the comic.
