Work, work, work
I hear some people are getting new jobs, some people like their jobs, some people are looking for jobs - theirs out-sourcing, in-sourcing and all that jazz. Or, I just heard about Tyra's new job, saw a post about Frogboy's job, wondered if RaiRO was Pictish's job and I lamented at the fact that I don't have a job.
Anyways - I thought it'd be neat if we posted our jobs, or our most recent ones, and something we like and dislike about them. Please keep in mind I said Something, meaning one thing. ---- Job: Gary's Bistro (Unemployed) Position: Dishwasher Like: I like the people I work with - save for about five people, everyone there is related, and they bicker like siblings. It's great, and a lot of fun to watch. (=3) Dislike: The busy hours - I have too many dishes to do, especially since when I go on busy nights, I start with a mountain of dishes. This is usually when someone wants to start a conversation, or I'm tired, or I have to chop onions - the giant Rubbermaid onion tub filled nearly to the brim. I cut them, then I cry because of the fumes and I have to go back to work again. |
Job: Beijer Transport & Logistics
Position: Orderpicker (Will explain if not clear, but right now, this'll do) Like: Some colleagues. The zero-hour contract (In other words, you can take off when you want, but you won't get payed. Offers possibilities.) Dislike: When there's hardly anything to do, if you'll believe me. When it's 25°C+ outside, it's 35°C+ inside. @_@ Zero-hour contract (you can get called of because there isn't any work, any minute. Or get sent home) EDIT: Oh... just one thing? Ah, screw it. I already typed this. |
Job:Ahmic Lake Resort
Position: Housekeeper Like: The fact I only work on Saturdays during the summer. Dislike: The pain in legs, back, neck, and shoulders (maybe arms) and the irregular hours (8:30 to whenever we finish). |
New Release Video (local video rental store)
Store Clerk Like: I get to watch movies and hang out with a bunch of cool people. Dislike: Everything else. Customers are rude and ignorant, lying sacks of shit who just want to screw you out of the 6.50 they owe you. Calling the late list sucks. Blockbuster gives you six free "Rent Anythings" in a month. New Release gives you one movie for one night that you work, and you get off work at like 10:00 PM. Store owner is a bitch. Thank god I don't work there anymore. Current job: Club Calpella Liquor store Store Clerk Like: Easy and laid-back job. I can play my DS and read and do college work and stuff on the job. I'm trusted with handling lots of money and it's going to look really good on a job application down the line. Dislike: Far too slow. Eight hour shifts of waiting for customers to meander in to get their 99 cent 32 oz beer and cigarettes. I feel dirty every time I sell to the alcoholics. |
Job: IGA
Position: working in the bakery Like: BSing with other employees. Stealing cookies. Discounted Wonderland tickets. Dislike: Accidentally getting cut or burned. Knowing that some day, those trolleys with poorly-stacked boxes that reach 12-15 feet will fall on you and render you a quadriplegic. |
Two jobs! Though the public need not know the names of the companies!
Position #1: Chef's Assistant (I've got no better name for this, I started at the hotel as a dishwasher and moved on to include pretty much any skillset in the kitchen or banquet staff) Like: Respectable income due to my seniority and knowledge. The chef is great, and I get along with the other people there, save for one. My job is very erratic when it comes to what I'll be doing on any given shift, and that keeps things from becoming monotonous. Cook, clean, wash, run, bus, setup, tear down, prep... Dislike: Poor hours in the off season (currently right god damn now, for the past month), early morning shifts every weekend and days off on weekdays make it hard for me to constantly go out with friends (most of whom are either unemployed or have normal weekday jobs). Position #2: Undergraduate Research Associate Like: Great money, pretty laid back. Lots of breaks and long lunches. Generally fun and rewarding work. Scientific and educational work meshed; my dream come true! I dissect invertebrates, take pictures, take measurements, and work with a whole bunch of software that'll look great on my resume (Flash, HTML, PHP, Paint Shop Pro) Dislike: Well, the university is rather far from my house, so the commute is brutal. |
Job: Packaging Factory
Position: Take-out for the gluers (or whatever the hell they feel like making me do. I'm officially on the "shrink wrap" line, but I haven't worked on that line for about a month) Like: I get to work with my friends a lot, pretty nice coworkers and managers. Neutral: 3rd shift (sometimes it's good, sometimes it sucks hugely) Dislike: Worthless co-workers whom I like to give the nickname "Useless". I mean really, they act like it's a crime to be expected to do their job while they're on the clock. (and it always seems to be the people with the easiest jobs, making those of us with the hard jobs work harter to make up for their lazyness) |
Company: Yeah, can't say that.
Position: Test Operator Like: Working on all sorts of new technology, dealing with engineers, 401k, stock options, free schooling, advancement. Dislike: Working on all sorts of new technology, dealing with engineers, the commute, finding a parking spot. |
JOB : Loblaws
POSITION : "Front end service clerk", according to the contract. Or cashier. LIKE : Mostly nice people who I work with, lots of hours, semi-decent pay, looks good on a resume since I'm apparently going to be trained to work in the cash office soon. DISLIKE : Majority of hours come at last minute, when people call in sick and I get called into replace them. Boss is also an idiot who couldn't write a schedule to save his life, so plenty of hours from his mistakes, too. Dealing with people all day is also a pain. Especially when they seem convinced that if they whine enough, they'll get stuff for free. |
Job: Theater
Position: Whatever needs doing. Like: Free soda. I'm a thirsty guy, so having unlimited drinks is great. Dislike: Dealing with people all day. Especially when they seem convinced that if they whine enough, they'll get stuff for free. |
