ReBoot RP, interest and signups.
I'm looking to start an RP based on the TV series ReBoot. Players can be sprites, viruses, guardians, binomes, virals, or nulls (knock yourselves out). It'll be set in Mainframe, and aside from the normal Mainframe stuff, Game Cubes will drop out of the sky and you can try to use them to your own ends.
Viruses have special abilities, but can't Reboot in Game Cubes. They can, however, infect Game AI Sprites, and even the User. Their main goal is to infect systems and bring them under their control. Examples are Megabyte and Hex, but you aren't limited to their powers. If you can dream up some cool powers, so much the better. Virals and binomes are able to reboot, but you'll have to have a strong personality to make a unique viral/binome. Good examples are Al and Al's waiter, Fax Modem and Data Nully, the Crimson Binome, and Herr Doktor. A Guardian's purpose is "to mend and defend." Guardians have their own personal keytool, which has it's own personality and name. They can mend tears, stabilize them into portals, and use the keytool as a grapnel, scanning device, and in most extreme cases, a slight form of dues ex machina. (Glitch certainly pulled some obscure functions now and then). Examples are Bob and Turbo. Sprites are standard huminoid-like entities "created in the User's image." They're more competant than binomes at dealing with everyday problems, and generally have standard human limitations in their actions. Examples are Ray, Mouse, Dot, Enzo, and Phong. Nulls are nullified sprites and binomes that drain energy from those they come into contact with. Most make Lost Angles their home, but there are loose nulls here and there. If it really kicks off, the action could take place on The Web or in any number of systems. So, post any questions, and if you want to sign up, post the details. Name: Type: (Virus, Guardian, Sprite, Viral, Binome, or Null) Keytool name (Guardian only): Virus powers (Virus only): Appearance: Bio: |
Name: CE
Type: Virus Virus powers: Assimilation: can absorb other entities gaining viral abilities and knowledge Worm: Can open portals Appearance: Varies depending on the current dominant personality Bio: An cunning yet disturbed virus from the net. In his original system he was at first content gaining knowledge. The personalities of sprites and binomials making him rather peaceful. That is untill a worm came into the system. His natural instinct to assimilate new data caused him to absorb not only the power but personality and experiences of the worm. The knowledge of the various data out in the net and other systems compelled him to travel out within it. That was not the only effect of the worm. It corrupted his mind, slowly removing the morality and ethics of those he had previously absorbed. Eventually his wanderings brought him to Mainframe, drawn to the various and unique data inside he opened a portal and entered this new world. |
Even though I shall need some time to work up a decent character, I really think I'd like to be in on this particular RP. So if it's quite all right with you, consider this a sort of placeholder post for now...

My exact reaction on seeing this thread was FUCK YES.
Give me time to think of something that isn't a rip-off of someone on the show, though. (I'm stealing Satan's Onion's placeholder idea, okay?) |
Newb is going to be all over this like salt in a bowl full of SALT.
Name: usehack12.dll Type: Guardian Keytool name: Usehackmod22.dll Appearance: Skin that randomly shifts between yellow, black, green, and red, in squarish splotches, His hair acts the same. His eyes are the only part that lack it- as if they never update, they have a silver/black gleam in them. Bio: indirectly created by the user as a modification of his antivirus program's DLL library files, usehack12.dll has no distinguishing name or bio before this- he is freshly created in this world as a guardian type with the tools to defeat virus's. He knows nothing else and cannot communicate until taught. despite his near-infant mindset, his program gives instructions and training on how to defeat virus's. If there's any issues let me know. :P I've wanted to do something like this for a while. |
Name:NinTari
Type: Guardian Keytool name: ArGeeBee Appearance:Ancient looking highly pixelated sprite of an old man with a red cabbie hat, white work shirt and red overalls Bio: old school NES sprites he arrived as part of a packet in a gaming console emulator. He was originally part of the installation wizard that verified that the installer wasn't modified to include any viruses. He was dropped into mainframe when the user decided to do some retro gaming. He excells at "platform" gaming, but doesn't care too much for these new fangled MMO's |

Am I ever! This is going to be so alphanumeric! Name: SkAIle Type: Emancipated Game Sprite Game Sprite Abilities: Overhead view: SkAIle does not see forwards. He instead sees the area around him. Hero Unit: SkAIle, in addition to being the commander of a group of forces in the game he hails from, was also a hero unit. As such, he has an HP bar over his head. This bar slowly refills with time, and refilling this bar can heal him from any wound. Appearance: SkAIle is, in essence, a tall, green, lizardman with an HP bar over his head. He wears leather armor with spiked steel shoulder pads. Bio:SkAIle originally comes from an RTS world, and would still be there if not for faulty collision detection. During a victory sequence, SkAIle was supposed to pat usehack12.dll on the back. Instead, his hand passed INTO usehack12.dll's back, and when the game cube left, SkAIle was considered to be part of usehack12.dll, and was left behind. |
I don't know for sure if I want to allow emancipated game sprites so much, as your ability could get rather confusing... Also, is he going to get his own PID? AndrAIa couldn't reboot without her own PID.

Finally, an idea! Ths one is part aerozord's idea, as kicked around in an IM. Until then I had simply no idea what I would really do. I had a very vague and general character history, sort of thing--he suggested the powers she might have. And out of that conversation came this:
Name: Myriad Type: Virus Virus powers: Compiling. She can create copies of herself--they're not fully independent, and have to be given orders, and she can only focus on instructing one at a time (so no commanding a clone army for her). By concentrating on a particular copy of herself, she can also partially take it over--seeing what it sees is simple enough, but making it move or speaking through its mouth she can accomplish only for moments at a time, lest she lose control of all the other clones. Cloning is also a very draining process for her; she cannot manage more than one a cycle. Appearance: She's exaggeratedly tall and slender, and almost featureless save for eyes that seem to glow green; everything else on her is in shades of pale grey, with thick ropes of silver hair that extend to her shoulders. Her clones look more like shadows or silhouettes of herself, with the same green eyes. Bio: She's been hiding in Mainframe for a while now, after she arrived attached to a file highly inappropriate for family viewing =P . Since she's not all that powerful by herself, she's learned how to hide herself well and let her clones do the legwork, and how to create the right alliances with other virii who might be of use to her. edited after having become better reacquainted with ReBoot terminology. Is that all right? |
I actually thought about that some while I was sleeping.
My first ability, basically, makes it so that so long as things stay a certain distance from me, I can't ever see them, but as soon as they come within that distance, even from behind, I know that they're there. As for my second... it just makes it so that everybody knows exactly how healthy I am and also accounts for re-growing limbs like lizards do. Usehackmod22.dll could probably reconfigure my emblem, although not as quickly as Mouse was able to reconfigure AndrAIa's, and in the meantime I could just stay outside of the games and watch that no virii try anything while a game's on, as AndrAIa couldn't even have stayed in Mainframe after each game without either her own PID or piggybacking onto someone else's, and they were worried she might not be near enough to someone when the game ended, so it might be a valid concern for me, too. Also, I think I should stick with using a bastard sword and a spiked kite shield, as those seem to be rather standard fare for lizardmen in video games. And finally, if allowed to use a hero unit from an RTS, I promise to find a way to use such famous phrases as "we need more vespene gas," and "stop rocking the boat, you're making me seasick!" |
