Soldiers of Light Sign-Up (Gutted, revamped, and reworked)
Alright, as some of you know, I kind of...died a few weeks back. Long story short, I was in the hospital, and my lungs simply stopped for an hour or so. Had to get plugged into life support. Afterwards, there were hundreds of things I thought about, and this was one of them. The original Soldiers of Light was my first RP I started, and it had finished, which was great. There has been several attempts to repeat it after that, but they all failed. Now, I'm gonna give it one last try. This time, the RP will finish, regardless of how it goes. So that my RP career would at least have come full circle.
Here's how the RP works. Those of you that have participated in the RP before should read it as well, since there are quite a few changes: The RP is set in Feudal Japan era. Demons not only exist, but they're a constant reminder to humans that there are things that MAKE those bumps in the night. Over a thousand years before present time, the demons were ruled by Demon Lord Talkatz, the most powerful demon ever created. He was close to ruling over the entire human world, before being defeated by Genkai Tama, a human samurai wielding The Raigaki, a katana of light and purity. Before he could be killed, Talkatz separated his soul from his body, leaving his husk behind in order to escape. Cheated out of his victory, Tama divided the body into three parts, and spread the parts across the world, so that Talkatz could never re-enter his body and try to rule over humans again. But now, the demons are getting restless once again. Their attacks are now coordinated. Something is leading them. It is now the job of Genkai Kurama, Tama's descendant, to take up the Raigaki and stop the demons once and for all. This game is a lot more open-ended than the past ones were. Instead of a plot, I'm drawing up most of the world that would be accessed, and what players would find there. Each team has their goals and what they want to do. It's up to them to figure it all out. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: - Demons are creatures of corruption and taint. Anything that exists in the world has a demon to it. Road demons, rock demons, tree demons, bird demons, love demons, cloud demons, etc. Hell, there are even demons that are just simple powerful demons. - There are two ways for a demon to be created. The first way is simple plain genetics. If two demons get it on, they'll have a demon baby. If a demon and a human get it on, they'll have a half-demon baby. The resulting child will often be along the same kind of demon as the parent, or a hybrid should they be different kinds. The most common way they are made, however, is by introducing taint to a mundane object or location. This is usually caused by the spilling of human blood. The loss of life or trust is one of the greatest catalysts for the focus of negative magic and kami to gather, which often results in a demon. For example, a battle near a river causes large amounts of human blood to seep into the water. A few days later, a new family of Kappa, Turtle Demons, emerge from the tainted water. Or a wolf that has gained the taste for the flesh of children can mutate to better suit its appetite. This, in fact, was how Talkatz was originally created. Talkatz the Demon Lord is an Elemental Demon, but special in a way that he is not focused in any one element. An ancient cult, seeking to bring about the end of the world, gathered together samples of each of the five elements: Fire, Air, Water, Wood, and Metal. They placed them together in a room of utter darkness, allowing the element of Darkness to be added to the mix, and sacrificed 100 victims. The blood tainted the elements, causing them to mix together into a pool of concentrated negative magic. And thus, Talkatz was born. -Demons are not inherently evil. The negative essence used to forge their life gives them impulses that may be considered evil, but that does not mean they all act upon them. There are many "good" demons and half demons, using their abilities to help humans and demons alike. It's all a matter of force of will and higher understanding. -Kami, entities of elements and ideals, are the focus of magic in this world. No individual can cast magic of their own accord. They can use 'essence' of sorts, their own life energy, to do fancy tricks and such. But magic, the sorcery of altering what is and isn't, is caused by the Kami. To control the Kami, practitioners follow either the Gentle Word or the Harsh Yoke. The Gentle Word is the path most often taken by Healers, Scholars, and Elemental Invokers. This path teaches an individual how to converse with the Kami, asking for their aid in performing an act. A new learner often spends hours trying to decipher the wistful lyrics of an Air Kami, or the harsh and demanding tones of a Fire Kami. A talented user can cast magic much quicker, having made good solid relations with certain types of Kami and have an understanding of their customs and ideals. A master of this path will never know fear in their life. They are friends with all Kami, and have their protection in all things. Arrows are stopped in midair by the Air Kami. Medicines and food are always plentiful thanks to the Wood Kami. Their shadow is never seen thanks to the adoring closeness of Light Kami. To harm a master of the Gentle Word is to call down the wrath of the very universe upon yourself. The Harsh Yoke is the path most often taken by Sorcerors, Demonic Archmages, and Necromancers. Like the Gentle Word, this path teaches an individual how to interact with the Kami, but unlike its brother school, it does not teach how to work with the Kami. Those that study the ways of the Harsh Yoke understand the flows of the Kami, and what it takes to break their wills. The Kami are their servants, and are treated as such. A new learner will usually spend hours staring at a Kami it had trapped inside an Obsidian cage, learning its weak points and what breaks its will to deny their request. A talented user can cast magic much more quickly, being able to force a Kami into their servitude with but a few moments of concentration. A master of this path is drunk on the power of essentially having the world under his thumb. His feet never get dirty, since he walks on the backs of Air Kami. He never grows hungry, for Wood Kami give their very lives to become fruit in his hand. And he will never die, for the Darkness Kami are too afraid to cross into his sight and cloud his mind. However, a master must concentrate on his actions at all times, and never take part in such frivolous things as sex or alcohol. Letting his concentration break for even a moment allows the Kami to exact their revenge. And Kami are not known for mercy. CREATING YOUR CHARACTER: Creating your character has its simple parts like what your character's name is, their age, etc. But there are some slightly more complicated parts, which are explained below. Alignment: Soldiers of Light is an RP about two groups of people; Team Light and Team Darkness. Team Light are the followers and guardians of Kurama. They wish to end the rule of Talkatz and bring some form of peace to the world. Or maybe they were bound to protect Kurama due to an ancient pact. Or, maybe they're in love with someone that travels with Kurama, and wants to protect them. Or hell, maybe they just felt like coming along. There's a number of reasons to be there. Just choose one. Team Darkness are the chosen of Talkatz himself. Talkatz wishes for the pieces of his body to be brought back together and made whole, so that he may finally take over the human world. Team Darkness are his go-to people to do it. Talkatz is a tricky bastard, and if you're evil and don't mind having demons rule over all, he'll bring you in. Or, if you're a good person and he has something to put you on his team, you could be there. Again, there's a myriad of reasons. Just make sure your reason for being on whatever team is acceptable. Race: There are three kinds of sentient beings in this world. Humans, Demons, and hybrids called Half-Demons. Humans Humans are the mortals. Just your average joes. The Jacks of All Trades, if you will. A human can be just about anything, so long as they're willing to put in the time and effort. The only restrictions on their abilities is resources and access to the knowledge they would need. Demons Demons are magic-based creatures that are glorifications (or desecrations, if you will) of more mundane objects. Their personality, looks, and abilities are usually affected by what they take after. Wolf demons are great hunters, lava demons can sit in intense heat without breaking a sweat, etc. And quite often, their bodies take after their ideal. A Rock Golem might have skin of granite, a Rat Demon would have long snouts and whiskers, etc. This does NOT, however, mean that a demon has to look outlandish and beastly. Many demons are born with the looks of a human. Others have the ability to switch between a human form and their demon form. This makes demons all the more dangerous, since you can't simply look one in the face and instantly know. Due to their magical birth, demons have a mark on their lives. Their personalities, goals, and dreams are often based around the kind of demon they are. An Air Demon would be energetic, care-free, and filled with the joy of life...but would end their opponents in the most crushing way possible when angered. A Bull Demon would be more than happy to spend its life in leisure, and would defeat its enemies with single crushing blows. While some demons may try to break free of their internal programming, most will usually end up following what their birth says is right. Half-Demons Half-Demons are the mutts of the world. They were created when a Demon and a Human mated, and one got pregnant. They are cursed to wander the fine line of their breed, never fully welcome on either side. They often have traits of their demonic parentage, which grants them a special name. Should their demonic parent be a Shadow Demon, monks and priests may call the half-demon "Shadow-Touched." A Rock demon's child would be Rock-Touched, a Fox Demon's child would be "Fox-Touched", etc and so on. However, while they do have traits of their demonic parentage, they are not bound by the curse all demons have. Their personalities and minds are their own, as well as the life they choose to live. A Wood-Touched Half Demon might burn down trees to clear a way for a blacksmithing forge. Choose your Race wisely, since it will affect what Special Abilities you'll be able to have later on. Special Abilities Now, you're probably asking yourself, "What are these special abilities I had to be so careful about?". Well, here's the rundown. In Feudal Japan, there is war and death everywhere. Any that are capable of wielding a sword are doing so. And yet, they are still being tossed around like meat dolls when the baddies come. So simply being a great sword fighter doesn't cut it for the great adventurers. So besides being able to fight with their chosen weapon(s), each character also has two special abilities that they are able to do. The types are slightly restricted by what kind of Race they are: Demons Demons are magical creatures. The essence of who they are and what they come from course through their veins. As such, they are capable of performing feats based around that. A Fire Demon can summon gouts of flame to incinerate their target. A Shadow Demon could become invisible. A Tiger Demon would have incredible strength and speed. This doesn't mean that all demons are exactly alike. One Air Demon can summon spikes made of solidified air, while another is able to create a tornado. Both are using air to their benefit, but have focused their expertise in two completely different paths. As you should have gathered by now, a demon's two special abilities must be linked in some way to what kind of demon they are. That doesn't mean you can't be creative, though. A Flower Demon can create a cloud of sleeping pollen just as easily as they can cause thorned vines to grow from the ground to lash at their opponents. If you have a good idea for a special ability, but aren't sure if it would count with what demon you are, send a PM to one of the GMs. If they wish, demons are able to follow one of the Paths, as described above, to perform greater feats of magic. Humans The great heroes in Japan, the ones scribed in books about, learn how to do special things. Whether it's through training, studying, or simply being born with it, your characters can do things that very few others can do. Unlike Demons, humans are not aligned with any kind of theme. As such, their abilities can be as varied as they wish, whether it's shooting demon souls from your hands, or ungodly speed. However, unlike demons, humans are not magically-inherent. Training, studying, and genetic superiority can allow them to use their own life energy to affect themselves, like invisibility, shields, creating swords of fire, etc., but they do not have the ability to do things like creating a vortex of flames like a Fire Demon would. In order to perform grand feats that training or energy simply cannot do, they must follow one of the Paths, which are described as above. Half Demons Half Demons have traits from their demonic parent, but have the mental and physical freedom of their human parent. A Fire-Touched would be able to throw balls of flame, while also having the ability to not need to breathe underwater. Half Demons, while having a much wider variety of special abilities to choose from than the other races, have a harder time following the Two Paths, since their mixed heritage often confuses the Kami to the point of not wishing to touch the half-breed, in case the mix of magic and mundane affect them. Spot saved. I'm thinking a Horse-Touched half demon who wields a zanbatō...just haven't decided on whether to be good or evil...or what his special ability would be...hmm...
But yeah, spot saved. |
What the hell, I've been in three of these so far (with varying degrees of success), I'll be in this last one. I think I'll give Team good a try this time, for variety. Also, I'm hoping that if this goes well Raiden will stick around, awesome RPer that he is.

Oh god, I gotta bring Suzume back... He never did get much fight time in the last one.
Hooray lazy, soul-blasting demon hunter! |
I'm unsure whether to rekindle the old or make a new one...Suggestions? XD

What about the old one with a new twist?

Name: Hidetsugu Toji (last name, first) or Toji the "fire-touched"
Gender: Male Race: Half-Demon Alignment: Light Age: 26 Appearance: A large man of 6'5"(especially large in the fuedal era) and quite rotund (he's got a giant beer belly but otherwise seems muscular) man with a jolly smile and a red nose, his hair is a mess as is the scruff on his chin, his breath reeks of foul liquor and yet his clothes are pristine. He's dressed as you would expect a samurai to be but makes no claim of such an honor. His pointed ears and blazing yellow eyes speak whispers of someone who is more then just a man. He has several barrels of various size tied to his back, but all are easily within his grasp in a moments notice to refill his large masu. A katana of odd dimensions rests on his hip, it is as long as a traditional katana but appears to be twice the width. 'All the better to gut you. HA HA HA HA!' is his reply with a hearty slap onto his mammoth knee. Equipment: The clothes he wears and the barrels on his back. Also an immense amount of ropes to tie the barrels on to his back. Weapon(s): Double wide katana, sake, flametongue(see below), his fists and his hard head. Special Abilities: Brewmaster - Toji's human bloodline and heritage bring him a great and legendary strength known only to the Hidetsugu line. The power to brew special and empowering sake. For all of the Hidetsugu family it causes them to grow stronger, faster and nearly double in height. Though the hangover afterwards is nothing to scoff at. For Toji however, the effect is even stronger, the alcohol's magic burns all the brighter for him giving him the presence and form of a true fire demon. However the form only lasts so long as he is not sober. Flametongue - With a sip of any sake Toji can breath fire as mighty as a red dragon, the stronger the sake the more powerful the flames. Though he can breathe fire at any time it is normally just a thin wisp of flame, enough to light a fire or a long string of candles but with even a touch of sake it becomes a powerful weapon. Bio: Over one thousand years ago a poor sake brewmaster with no hope of even the most meager of livings found hope in a single samurai striving to stop the Demon Lord Talkatz. Upon his freedom the brewmaster promised the samurai all the sake he could drink (big mistake), as well as his vow to aid him however he could. This vow would bind the brewmaster's bloodline to the samurai's. The samurai eagerly agreed. ***** Nearly a thousand years after that, the only remaining descendant of the brewmaster, Hidetsugu Kenji met a beautiful woman and wed her. Nine months later a baby was born, a baby who was 'fire-touched'. Kenji was distraught but his beloved wife Shino assured him that the baby was his, for she was a demon. They named their son Toji, a name that would bind him to the family legacy of brewing sake. All throughout his youth Toji was raised in two worlds; the human world by his father in which he learned all there was about sake and its craft, the second a world of demons, magic and power as taught by his mother. He grew strong and wise in both worlds, though his constant abuse from both humans and demons brought him into a third world. The world of samurai. He trained harder in swordplay then any other student Master Takezo had ever had, when the training was over Takezo had a special sword created for Toji. One that celebrated both his skill with the blade and the heritage he carried on his shoulders. With it he could cleave a man in two (and has on several occasions), he raises it only in defense of himself or others. Toji sees the good in life as he was raised to, he sees both humans and demons for who they are, rather then what they were born into. Both sides are given a chance to prove themselves and should they falter under his keen eyes, Toji would shed nary a tear. Upon the rumors of the return of Talkatz, Toji took up the ancient scroll that proved his bond to the samurai Genkai Tama and sought out his descendant. (whether he found him yet is GM call.) |
Name: Haraise Umaruna
Gender: Male Race: Horse-Touched Half Demon (Demonic Horse Father + Human Mother) Alignment: Undecided Age: 32 Appearance: A six foot tall man with a copious head of black hair that extends to the middle of his back. Wears a dirtied jinbei and a pair of geta which can support his hoofed feet. His zanbato is strapped to a harness on his back. Equipment: Traveling rations and some money. Weapon: His semi-possessed zanbato, Anrakushi. Special Abilities: Constitution of the Horse - The blood of a powerful horse demon runs through Umaruna's veins, and as such he is gifted with the stellar physical properties associated with horses: enhanced strength, an increased durability, longevity, and such. Kiheiba's Taint - The wretched soul of Umaruna's father clings to Anrakushi. Kiheiba, like most Horse Demon, was able to enhance the power of demons around him (much like mortal horses enhance a human's fighting capability); Because his soul is entwined into the fiber of the sword, any demonic blood spilled on the sword is enriched, allowing Umaruna to utilize the power of the blood for offensive purposes. Example: He kills an air demon, he can use the sword for air slices or whatnot, a fire demon dies he can enflame the sword, etc. et al. Only blood currently staining the sword grants power. Bio: Three hundred years before the start of the RP, a major feud began between two major yakuza groups. Through numerous events lost to history, the petty differences eventually culminated into a major war, and the worst atrocities boiled down to a single battle. Hundreds of lives were lost, and the stables of both houses emptied. All told, 47 horses lent there life essence to the lakes of human blood spilled that day, and from that vile primordial sea an equally vile demon was born, Kiheiba. Born from such intense circumstances, Kiheiba was a strong demon. Aside from the normal instances of increased strength and above human physicality, Kiheiba was able to greatly enhance the natural power of demons around and attuned to him. In time he amassed a network of friends and servants, forming a roving mob of demons. A seething construct of typical yakuza vices, Kiheiba indulged excessively in gambling, gluttony, and the...'feel' of women, consensual or forced, always backed by a small army of loyal warriors. One such instance of indulgence would eventually lead to his downfall. After raging through a town and partaking in his fill of loose women, Kiheiba left behind a young woman, now pregnant with his child. Like most women tasked with bearing his seed, the girl was barely able to give birth, dying during the procedure, giving birth to a boy with a full head of hair and horse feet. Although the priests and priestesses attempted to shield the boy away from the harsh townspeople, he eventually was forced out of town. Over the intervening years, an intense hatred was fostered, aimed solely at his father. After decades of combat training, Umaruna commissioned an expert blacksmith to create a zanbato capable of striking down a horse demon. His weapon in hand, Umaruna carved his way throughout the land, tracking his father's movements until he finally caught up him. In one night, Umaruna fought his way through the ranks of his father's mob, until at last only Kiheiba stood under his blade. With a final laugh the horse demon cursed his son, and when he was truly cut down his soul clung to the weapon of his demise, a final insult. His one true goal in life accomplished, Umaruna was left feeling empty and hollow, his father still corrupting his weapon. He now seeks some way to fill the void. |
Name: Tsurune Suzume
Gender: Male Race: Human Alignment: Light Age: 20 Appearance: About 5’11” and rather muscular for someone of his build (Think scrawny yet strong). He has unkempt, shoulder-length black hair, a rather good tan from wandering looking for work for so long, and, strangely enough, straight black eyes (“The black and white creeps people out”). He wears what looks like cut off hakama (a little below the knee, to be specific), as well as a worn, light blue shirt with an over shirt of a darker shade of blue, and a pair of basic sandals. His katana are strapped to his back, the right one vertical over his shoulder and the left horizontal along his hip. His knives are hidden away beneath his over shirt, over his hips but closer to his back. Equipment: Pretty basic, really. A bag with his food, flint ‘n’ steel, etc, etc on his shoulder and a water skin for his water on the same shoulder. The rest is weapons, really. Weapon(s): Two katana, as well as two knives for emergencies. Other than that, his fists can suit him. Special Abilities: Just to start things off, Suzume is like a hub for demon souls. Give him a minute and the souls of recently killed demons will flock to him like metal to a magnet. But, it gets better. He can do two different things with those souls (so far, at least): 1) Soul Blasting: Launching captured souls like projectiles can be something quite devastating (as in freaking explosions), and this happens to be one of Suzume’s specialties. He’s even managed to find out how to put multiple souls into a single blast to make the effects multipilied in power, but obviously he runs out of souls faster doing this. 2) Soul Shields: The complete opposite of the last, this makes a body-sized shield sprout out in front of Suzume, protecting him almost completely. The shield can break with enough force, but like the soul shots, more souls make the shield more durable. No worries about all of this being overpowered, Suzume technically runs out of ammo after a while. Although I try and make him conserve ammo when he has to, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t outlast him… Bio: Suzume was born to a farmer’s family, and didn’t really like his lifestyle. He would often get in fights with other kids, beating them senseless, saying he was just having fun. Of course, he really was just trying to have fun, because fighting was the only thing he knew other than farming, and the latter was quite boring. So Suzume continued his tradition of getting into fights, obviously being the best fighter among those his age, until he saw a Ronin wander into town. The man’s style was odd, using two swords instead of one, to make a full on offensive attack, with a surprisingly stable defense. Using this style, the Ronin helped the town to fend off bandits for a bit before wandering off again, satisfied with his pay. Of course, he unwittingly dragged Suzume with him, the young boy forcing the warrior to teach him the basics of his style, saying the rest would come naturally after a few fights of his own. Somehow, by what seemed like a miracle, the Ronin agreed, passing on just the basics, with Suzume adding his own tricks. After that, they parted ways, never seeing each other again. Suzume’s life then started when he was about 14. On his own and fending for himself, he found his skills growing more and more, aiding in the brawls he would cause to point out his superiority. That was, until he saw and killed his first demon at 16, mostly by chance. The soul of the demon, which Suzume could oddly see, sprouted out of the body and floated over to Suzume, being seemingly absorbed by his body. Having no clue what happened, Suzume continued onward, not worried in the slightest… at least until the soul he had captured accidentally showed itself again and shot out from his hand, completely destroying a large boulder next to the road. Amazed, Suzume hunted down a demon and killed it, only this time intending to keep the demon soul within his body and control the blast himself. It took months of hunting and mental training, but the idea of shooting out huge blasts of demonic energy soon became second nature to Suzume, helping in his new field of demon hunting. Four years later and Suzume has progressed a lot, not known well as a demon hunter, but making it on his own. He has also improved his control over demon souls to be able to create shields out of them, increasing his strength all the more. Also, he is able to keep the souls of absorbed demons close to his body instead of just inside it, creating an odd sort of shroud around his body when he’s bored or just wants to mess with someone, provided they can see the souls. Needless to say, Suzume hasn’t changed much, but he brawls with demons instead of little kids in the present. Notes: Really, if we were taking things seriously, Suzume is an anti-fodder cannon, through and through. I’m hoping to get the chance for that to take full effect, but we’ll see. So, yeah, maybe his first shot would surprise someone in a one-on-one fight, but it’s easy to dodge after that (most of the time). That doesn’t mean he isn’t an incompetent fighter, just that he’s very conservative of souls in 1v1 fights. God I hope I get a few good fights in... |
I was in two out of three of these, including the first one that ended, so it's only fitting I bring back my character.
Name: Jade Himura Gender: Female Race: Human Alignment: Light Age: 24 Appearance: 5'7" with a thin build. Her eyes are green and her hair is black and usually kept in a ponytail. She wears standard ninja garb: black ninja pants, light armor over a black tank top with mesh on it, arm and leg guards made of light metal and ninja boots. She carries two Tachi sheathed horizontally on her lower back and a larger Wakizashi diagonally on her back. The only real hints of color on her are a red clan symbol on her shoulder and the red scarf she always wears around her neck and over her nose and mouth. The scarf isn't actually magical, but seems to be nigh indestructible and have a life of its own, as no matter how bad a battle she is in, the scarf never sustains any injury nor moves from the spot on her face. The few who have tried to remove it have met with a most gruesome fate. Equipment: Scarf, various medical supplies and "roughing it" equipment such as a bed roll, water skin, rope, sharpening stone, hunting knife etc. Weapon(s): Twin Tachis approximately 2 feet in length and a Wakizashi approximately 3.5 feet in length. Special Abilities: Ridiculous speed - Jade was born with the unnatural ability to move and run much faster than most people. Coupled with her training, it has evolved into an ungodly amount of speed that she can pour on at any moment, leaving only a red blur behind from her scarf. While she can cross large distances in almost no time at all, she does get tired after some time and needs to rest. Her speed and agility comes in handy especially in large crowds of enemies and when she needs to escape. While she can take someone with her while she runs, they may sustain physical harm from moving as fast as she does. Invisibility - While training, her masters wanted her to expand her knowledge and use her speed coupled with magic to make one of the deadliest assassins in Japan. She studied under the Gentle Word of the Darkness Kamis for years to become adept at the art of invisibility. Jade can now turn it off and on easily, only needing to think about it to make it happen. She can turn invisible and not be seen by the naked eye and some lower to medium detection spells. However, she still makes sound, so she can be heard. Bio: Jade was born into a clan of ninjas in the high foothills of a mountain in the north. She trained very hard to develop her natural abilities along with her unnatural speed and invisibility. She soon became an excellent ninja, known for her stealth and speed of getting the job done, as well as her field medicine. Her clan was surprised to find a stranger at their gates, not used to visitors. He was Genkai Kurama, and after proving his identity, he asked the clan for a great favor: someone to come with him and help him destroy Talkatz. At first they were skeptical, but they soon agreed, wanting to be rid of the demon as much as anyone else. They elected that Jade go, and begrudgingly she did. At first, she only spoke when spoken to, and did not like Kurama at all. She did not like being uprooted from her family and friends to accompany a random person on a crazy quest. But soon she began to warm up to him, like him and somehow love him. At first she thought it was deep respect, but she soon realized that it was genuine love for him. She accompanies him now out of love and for the cause, helping Kurama with her knowledge of medicine and he skills. |
