I didn't know I could use domination in such a manipulative way... Figured it was just mind control only. Oh, and Vlad may end up taking the slavers daughters/wives/cocubines (Depends on if I feel like it...)

Being exicited could lead to bad bets... Only emotion I can think of that would do that though...

Zalbag would notice and resist, though if give time Vlad could take over any of you. (It would be faster with Ren or Celes' character, seeing as he can use Memorize at the same time)

And to win his bets Vlad isn't only using his powers... Fights are rigged, but in ways that the slavers won't notice.

Krylo 03-01-2004 05:27 PM

It would allow resistance to a point... and no you wouldn't know who it came from.

Vlad would try domination, he wouldn't succeed, you'd feel someone in your head, but you wouldn't know who. Vlad would try psionic crush, he may or may not succeed (although he could eventually), you'd know someone was attacking you, but you wouldn't know who. If he succeeded it'd take a few crushes before he beat you down enough to ensure the ability to get into your head, but you would get a little 'stupider' each time.

Basically, if he felt like taking over your mind through the second manner, your character (judging by his disrespect for everyone else, and, by extension, PROBABLY a lack of respect for their lives), may just decide to burn everything in the room in order to escape, or get the hell out of there.

Edit: And only if you look Ren or Celes's characters in the eyes, IHMN.

Edit2: He could also use ego-whip to break down your self-confidence so you wouldn't fight his attempts to take over as strongly... again, it would take a little while (you arrogant prick), or ID insinuation to drive you insane and make your mind easy to take over that way. There was another 'attack mode' but I can't remember what it is right now.... just found it. Mind thrust... which would be somewhat like psionic crush.

Do mages have to do hand motions or anything besides saying the words to cast spells, or are words (Or not even those) only needed?

Edit - Vlad is stronger then everyone but Ecurt's guy (physically), so it's not that hard to force eye contact...

Forever Zero 03-01-2004 05:32 PM

Ohh, burning down everyone in the room, I like that...

Of course, Ssslara would have to survive to tell him about traps in the Vault, and Dezil would have to survive or the mercenaries might leave, but he probably wouldn't have a problem burning down everyone in sight if he thought they were trying to take over his mind.

And I'm curious about how magic specifically works too.

Krylo 03-01-2004 05:34 PM

Depends on the spell. A quick 'burning hands' spell would take a wave of their hand... and that's only really to 'direct' the spell. If you tied them down they could still cast it, but the spell would just fly straight from their fingertips, so they couldn't aim it... for a 'firenet' spell, it'd only take a chant... and if a mage becomes very good in a spell that doesn't require limb aiming, they may be able to do it just through concentrations.

And, if they close their eyes, it would be. Also, Ren... in a few IC weeks, will have VERY strong magical power, although little knowledge over how to control it... it will be explained why when that happens. Anyway, point being, if Vlad tried to force eye contact she'd probably use a gust of wind to knock him across the room, and then leave him burning with a fireball, although, right now... he could.

IHateMakingNames 03-01-2004 05:42 PM

It's hard to knock someone back when they are holding onto you... She would be forced back with me. (I would think while being memorized you are unable to close your eyes...)

And I really want some psychokineseis powers now*... Sure I control almost all NPCs, but I still like knowing I can at least put up a fight against PCs...

Edit - *Now meaning I want to gain those later, just I have decided now that later I want those powers.

But they could close their eyes, like Krylo said, or wrench out of your grasp (it's hard to get that good of a hold on somebody's face to force eye contact if they are struggling,), or at the very least they could give him a swift kick...

But really, how does the whole "Mesmorize" or any of the mind control work anyway?(just the fundimentals) Like, does it take a moment once they make eye contact before anything happens, can they tell somebody is intruding on their thoughts, but just not able to do anything about it? (just wanna know in case Vlad ever tries to control Aidelyn's mind.)

IHateMakingNames 03-01-2004 05:50 PM

He doesn't need memorize for Aidelyn... Since you are not a mage, and nerieds don't have a high int/wis/other mind involve stats, her mind is easier to control... (Block kick with leg by the way).

And memorize is magic... It makes it easier to suck blood out of people (Stop the resisting first with it). I just threw it in randomly while making the vampire bio, then it carried over, but with telepathy I figured I would never need it... I assumed it at least some what forced the victim to not struggle...

Edit - And for Ren/Jad, yes a kick there would affect Vlad since it works.

Krylo 03-01-2004 06:06 PM

Memorize doesn't really control someone's mind, at least as far as I picture it...

Think of the most attractive person in the world. Beautiful in movement, mind, and body... now multiply that times ten. When a vampire memorizes you, that's what you start to think about them, until you break eye contact. There is a brief struggle of wills, but it's much more likely to work than say... domination. Also, it only works on someone who would normally be attracted to a person of the vampire's gender...

The reason it makes people stop struggling is because most people would just melt in his arms, and wouldn't mind a little neck bite from someone they see as that attractve.

And... it would have an effect on Vlad being able to dominate a PC girl's mind in that it would break down their will to resist him a little bit, and redirect their attention away from the fact that he's in their head.

As for how they work exactly... he concentrates, and his own will/inner power conflicts with your will, as well as his knowledge on how to manipulate his own inner power. If your will is as strong as, or stronger than, his will + inner power, you resist it. If you're a little weaker there's a battle of wills (as that it's your head, it's a bit harder for him to gain control than it is for you to keep it), if you're more than a little weaker, he wins by default.

If you're as strong, stronger, or just a little weaker, he can also weaken you using the various 'attack modes' I listed.

And, as I said, you never know where it's coming from if you resist, but you know it's coming... umm... if there's something else you need clarification on, just ask.

IHateMakingNames 03-01-2004 06:15 PM

Except of course you've mentioned several times how most people (The PC) have a stronger will then Vlad...

Edit - Unless of course Vlad could just use Daydream, Awe, Id Insinuation, Ego whip, and such in any mix of one or more in a short amount of time and it would stick, but as how you've been explaining things it would seem like Vlad would have to concentrate to keep those effects on the target.

Edit 2 - Ecurt's guy, Celes' girl, and Jad's guy seem like they would be nothing to the rest of the PCs...
