Harry Potter and the Franchise of Gold

I want to know, in that setting, are there any American wizards? I mean, we know there are Asian ones, and Europian ones, and African ones, but we don't ever hear about America having magic, to the extent of my memory.
There is an institute at Salem. I'm sure, with the size of the country, that there could be more. Ah, here we go! Goblet of Fire, page 82.

Three African wizards sat in serious conversation, all of them wearing long white robes and roasting what looked like a rabbit on a bright purple fire, while a group of middle-aged American witches sat gossiping happily beneath a spangled banner stretched between their tents that read: The Salem Witches' Institute.
Looks like an all-girl's school, though. I'm sure there's more.

Also, rambling about on the internet brought American Quidditch, or Quodpot, to my attention, which delights me.

... I can see the TV series now.

If anything, I think that maybe Rowling will let her series pass on to another author doing things in the same world, but not directly with Harry Potter, something like what Lucas did with Star Wars.
I'm on the fence about this issue.

On one hand, Harry Potter will always be a sacred series to me. Harry Potter will always have been originally about Ron, Hermione, and Harry and their adventures/misadventures trying to Scooby Do in the wizard world. Now that the series is done, there's nothing else to cover, and what little there actually is to cover, I don't think, actually merits their own series.

Continuing with the comparison to Star Wars, once the Emperor was killed, (spoiler lol) there was so much more to do since they had to establish a government and clean up the Empire's influence over the rest of the known galaxy. That just doesn't feel like they could do it with Harry Potter. Voldemort was a loner like crazy and he barely even wanted Snape as a second-in-command.

On the other hand, however, I think that good Harry Potter fiction - stuff that I might not be thinking of - could be great! I'd love to see more done with this world, even if it's not especially about Harry and the others, or even Albus, Lily, and James.

EDIT: Most of the "It's not just Britan" stuff came from Goblet of Fire quiddich tournament, since Quiddich seems to be the world-wide sport of wizards.

Keep quiet on the continuing and expanding JK's universe front.

If you don't, Fox will have Arkham High: An Academy for Witchcraft and Wizardry ready for viewing this fall!

I think it was hinted very strongly that it was more than just that. Maybe not real love, but at least a bit of obsession that most people think it is.

"You're not going to Azkaban, you're too-" (page 667) What? Pretty? Because for me that is the first sign of a crush over her.

"After all this time?"
"Always" said Snape. (page 687)

Dumbledore would have taken for granted that Snape was loyal to her, as well as the fact that he would carry his promise in her memory. Also, the fact that his patronus took her form. If you remember, in Half-Blood Prince, Tonks' patronus changed into a large beast when she was worried about what happened to Lupin. I believe love can be a potent force able to change one's patronus

Whatever happened to Aberforth? He just kinda vanished.

He went to make sweet rear love to some goats.

Another thought.

Who was Hugo Weasley named after?

Also changed the thread title because it was spoileriffic.

For those of you who want to know more about the Harry Potter Universe, J. K. says that she is going to do a sort of encyclopedia on the world, including expanded backgrounds on characters, and what happens after the close of the 7th book. She's just going to take a bit of a break from writing before she starts organizing her notes.

I had thought that the title was a joke, and didn't give anything away. I mean, either Harry lives or Harry dies.

It's just even funnier for those in the know because he dies, then comes back to life and lives.

Fenris 07-24-2007 06:39 PM

I thought it was too, but I got asked to change it for spoilerifficness.
