Star Trek
Alright, so we have some information about the next Star Trek movie, or JJ Abram's more defined current project.
First, it's a prequel to the original series, which we've known for awhile. Which means that Kirk and Spock are being recast. Abrams announced at ComicCon that Spock will be played by Zachary Quinto, Heroes's Sylar. He also squashed the Matt Damon as Kirk rumor. |

Arg...Star Trek will never be what it was... |

As for Quinto, I'm sure that he'll be a good Spock if he can manage to keep a straight face whenever necessary. I hope that they continue casting the movie with people who actually resemble the original actors. With the right makeup, though, they could probably cast just about anyone (I'd rather they didn't, though). Who would you like to see as the other characters? |
Recasting the original Star Trek?
Wow, define "hubris". I mean I liked Alias and all but fuck me, you're going to what, out-Spock Leonard Nimoy? Out-Sulu George Takei? Out-Scottie James Doohan? Is there a group of characters in the entirety of 20th-century pop culture more defined by the actors who played them? Seriously who the fuck is Abrams trying to kid? |

I'd do a much better Khan.

Rumor's abound with this project, as always.
Two rumors I can see are Daniel Dae Kim as Sulu (unlikely that Sulu will be in it; if they're doing a prequel, they'll concentrate on the big three) and Gary Sinise as McCoy. Seriously, give that guy some alcohol, and we have a Bones. |
Actually if it's a prequel to the original series, Sulu, Scotty, and the rest won't be a part of it. Before they met on the enterprise, the only crew to have known each other beforehand was Spock and Kirk.
This is a neat idea, hopefully they'll give more of a background to how the two actually met. And I think Mark Whalberg would make an awesome early-days Kirk. |

I still think it's going to suck big ones, but I'm willing to entertain a flicker of optimism. Quote:

They've been trying to make "Kirk and Spock: The Early Years" for decades now. I'm surprised it took the studio system this long to finally push it through. I guess since all other Star Trek incarnations are dead now they feel it's safe, as Trekkies (like most fanboys/girls) will take whatever's offered to them, even as they bitch and moan about it.
I'm not too enthused about this one. I wanted the idea they had a few years ago: gritty war movie depicting the Romulan Wars that was gonna be made by the team that made Band of Brothers. |
