Out of Curiosity...

And in part, I suppose, because I've been gone for a while, but...

Well, whatever happened to that rule in these forums having to do with threads not getting over 4 pages long... I guess the rule never seemed that important to me before, but now that we have several 8+ page threads going, I realized how much it helped things out around here.

I think it has everything to do with the fact that these boards have a helluva lot more people. I mean, I take a gander at the member lists, and its as if we've got the entire population of the Webcomics boards & then some.

I mean geesh.

Anyway, right now I think the mods are a bit overwhelmed & are just letting Chaos reign. Maybe as things calm down or the mods work out a better system, things will improve.

Personally, I suspect that these new boards will need new new mods, especially considering that Shiney (and RaiRai?) haven't been contributing that much as of late. Hey, if you're interested, I'm sure you could get a job, and you've certainly got my endorsement, if that counts for anything.

You call this chaos?!

Dude, go to my old forum. A place with two administrators.

One a liberal zealot, who is a bisexual slut, does drugs, and is fourteen.

The other who is an EXTREME follower, dumb as brick friend, who also happens to be fourteen.

I'll let you immagine the rest..

I think I'll sleep better at night if I don't even try...

And compared to what we had recently at the old Web Comic forums, this is chaos. Not your rip & rend, kill everything that moves sort of chaos, but the sort of chaos a classroom tends to go through before the teacher shows up.

If I see a thread go beyone 60 posts, I'll close it, but I'm at work for most of the day and it's tough to keep up.

Things should calm down somewhat after the novelty of the new forum wears off, though, so I'm not too worried.

That's a very interesting way to look at it, DI. And it probably has merit. The traffic is definitely much faster than I remember 8-bit having on a regular basis. It's starting to remind me a little of clanBOB.

Anyway, I, too, have noticed that about 3526346546743346 more people are signed up now. What, were they afraid of TWC? It just strikes me as weird that a change in forum location suddenly draws more people to join.

Naturally, if there are as many more people as it seems, there are going to be more replies to posts. From what I've seen, which is not a large number of the threads, the level of content seems to be fairly adequate, so allowing larger threads does not appear to be a necessarilly bad thing.

Perhaps the people have all signed up because of the front page announcement has prompted people to notice that there actually is a forum?

Lycanthrope 11-21-2003 02:39 AM

That was it (I'm a new one). I only learned about 8-Bit a while ago, and really hadn't heard about the forum. That and the fact that there are no pop-ups.

Sky Warrior Bob 11-21-2003 06:48 AM

Oh but there *ARE* pop-ups, just evil insidious invisible pop-ups that will work themselves inside your brain until they drive you mad! Quick! Make yourself a tinfoil hat, its the only way to be safe!!!!

Tinfoil only touches my hair when I'm getting highlights.

So nyah.
