Mah Internets Is Brokeded
I'm using a Wireless Router that my dad is using to get internet for his laptop in an area without an internet cable, and the connection has been wonky. Sometimes, the internet just stops... it doesn't work at all... even though it tells me I'm connected.
(>>) I'm using this thing, if that helps any. |
Okay im a little confused. But this is what I think that you said.
"My router is connected to my desktop and my father is using wireless internet to be connected and on my end My internet is going wacky." Am I correct? |
Both computers randomly have no internet....>>

Okay I might know what the problem is but I need to know some things.
What is your Internet provider: How fast does the internet go?(Like Dial up,DSL,Cable,etc..): What wireless card or plugin is your father useing?: |
What is your Internet provider:
Shaw How fast does the internet go?(Like Dial up,DSL,Cable,etc..): Cable - the computer tells me something like "100 Mbps" What wireless card or plugin is your father useing?: He's got a laptop, which comes with wireless internet - all it needs is a router. |
Okay well im still looking at some things but this is what I know so far.
Check your router and see if the light on the front is flickering, or if it stays on for about a min and goes off. Your fathers wireless capability might not be compadable with the router your using. Try reseting your router, mainly by pressing the button which auto sets it, if it has one. Or just set it up again just as you had it. If that doesn't work then call your internet provider to see if there having any difficulties with your connections cause if your internet is linked then say a person in texas is downloading a large movie, that can make your internet slow and probably cripple it. I'm still looking at ways to fix your connections but for now just call your internet provider. If you can. |

I'd check the cable/line that the internet is provided through. I had a lot of sporadic connectivity through my cable modem directly connected to my ethernet card (no router), and it turns out that a squirrel had chewed on some of the cable that was on the outsside of my house.
Of course, you can try to rule out the wireless router. When the internet connection through the router goes down next time, if at all possible, connect the modem directly to a PC, without using the router. If it's still not working, then it's an issue with the modem/line/provider. If your computer is saying you're still connected to the wireless signal, despite not having internet access, I'm betting that it's an issue with the modem or the line. |
Have you run your network setup wizard yet as well as making sure that you have the proper drivers for your network adapter?
