As Auran said, it is a Bokuto. Wiki'ing that reaveals that to be a wooden japanese sword (a.k.a. a katana), usually used for training (in Aikido, and probably other martial arts).

And I will make the obvious statement: They look similar because they are both wearing those Naruto-thingies and glasses :D

It was very hard to tell the difference. Lucky I have seen your previous pictures otherwise I would have mistaken you for her. ehehe. Next thing you know, even your children will look the same as you, thus making it incredibly hard to tell the difference.
