Reader's pleadge
Since these stories are requiring more then one comic for a punch line I decided not to view these comics for one week, then read up. I hope it increases my viewing pleasure and encurage others to do the same

There hasn't been "a" punchline in my comics for quite some time. I toss in lots of quotable quotes and weird gags and references. The usual set up + punchline = har har is too rigid and artificial.
Actually I think there has a been a couple punchlines(not that log ago), but I don't recall when used.
Sliggy Freelance uses punchlines and it does'nt seem rigid or artifical I think.. |
Bah, who needs punch lines when you've got a steady stream of one liners? They make quoting easy and compact, and everyone (sometimes) gets it!
yea but I hate waiting like this. Example you see the earth orb you say, "whoa, now what are they going to do" then BOOM the comic ends. Sometimes you dont really get it unless you see a few comics
I have the exact same problem with watching Naruto. You get a new episode, start getting into it, and then BAM! you gotta wait a week for another twenty minutes of plot. There definitely is an advantage to waiting say a month before picking up new episodes (of anime or 8-bit theatre). Longer waiting time, but you get a more complete viewing than if you had watched each individually.
When I first got into 8-bit I had to read 367 comics in a few days (ok, i didn't HAVE to). And I admit that it is more fun than reading one comic every two days only because I had a steady stream of the funny for about 6 hours a day (yes, i am a little obsesive).
Yeah, I understand the Wait And See theory. I do it myself with all print comics I keep up with. I would kill myself and other people--in that order--if I had to keep up with a story when I only get a section every month. Getting a nice thick trade paperback that collects the full story is so much more satisfying to read even if you have to wait extra long for it.
It's the same thing with a lot of people saying that 8-bit isn't as funny anymore as it used to be. Naturally, unless they were here in the very beginning, they read all the early comics at once, like I did. Read like that, they're hysterical. But when you only read one, you rarely get more than a chuckle out of it. If I wasn't so damn addicted to the strip I'd probably make some effort to read it less often, in order to get the full effect of the comedy.
Yeah, it would help me to do that, they lose the effect of hilarity when you view them every time a new one pops up.
