You'd Probably Like...
Not a game, just a way for us NPFers to mind meld into a giant, cross-media version of Pandora.
Basically post something you like, and then the next poster suggests something else you might enjoy in the same vein. It could be in the same entertainment medium (If you like Daft Punk, you'd probably like LCD Soundsystem) or just the same idea (If you like Shrek, you'd probably like Fables). Also, this is "You'd Probably Like", not "Adopt My Personal Views"; If you can't think of something you like that's similar to Naruto, don't make fun of the guy who likes Naruto, just don't recommend something. Let's not derail what should be a fun experience with stuff like "Well, if you like Fall Out Boy, you might like dog shit being poured into your ear canals". Ok, that all done with, I'll start off... I like The Office. |
News Radio man!
|
Yeah, I guess I could have been clearer, by "I'll start off" I meant "I'll do the first thing, recommend me something, and then post your own like to be broadened"
Also, I guess to justify this thread's existence outside of Off-Topic or Gaming, some explanation as to why the Likes are connected could work. |
news radio is a comity kinda like the office. look it up.
|
Aaaaany-fuckin'-way, if you like NewsRadio, you'd probably also like The Kids in the Hall.
|
And if you like The Kids in the Hall, you might just like Mr. Show (another sketch comedy show once aired on HBO, with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross), although it's a bit more "out there" than KitH.

I'm, um, going to go back to what Lumenskir was talking about. . .
Quote:
If you like The Office, Lumenskir, you might like a show called Black Books. It's another British comedy, though not in the "this is actually a documentary" vain of The Office, about a man running a book store. It follows a more traditional sitcom formula, but I think it's executed rather well. I would recommend it, as it can be quite entertaining. (I would also highly, highly recommend "Spaced" with Simon Pegg if you aren't already familiar with it. It's hilarious.) Now, I like novels by Daniel Handler. And by the way, Lumenskir, I don't think there's much you can do to rival me in Indieness. I've started making my own clothes and music. Are you going to cry now? Shall I exit my home and go to the corner store with the intention of retrieving a packet of super-soft tissues for you? Because I believe you are going to begin crying soon, and tissues would be useful for the amount of tears that will be cried, and they are super-soft so as not to add additional discomfort to an already humiliating situation, because like Xerxes, son of Darius, I am a kind and generous god, I demand nothing more than Earth and Water. |
Hey, somebody gets it!
On Daniel Handler, I'm not clear on whether you meant the work under his own name or Lemony Snicket, but I'm also going under the assumption that they're similar in tone and style. Now, the obvious "You'd Probably Like..."-s would hover near the Discworld, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials spectrum, but I'm going to go ahead and say that You'd Probably Like the works of Douglas Coupland, probably starting off with the beginner friendly Microserfs before moving on to the harder stuff. Also, I wasn't aware of the fact that Handler was associated with Magnetic Fields. Thats pretty cool. I like hardboiled noir. |
You would probably like the movie Brick.
I liked the Ender's Game series. |
Ah yes, Ender's game, good read. But if you like that, you may just enjoy the PenDragon Series. Basically, it's a story of a regular boy (who gets good grades in school and is the top athlete, so maybe not so normal). His family is also normal, except for his uncle who comes and visits every once in a long time, but he doesn't appear to age. Anyway, His Uncle ends up showing that he travels to other worlds through these magical tube things, and saves worlds from some evil guy who I don't remember his name (it's been awhile). Needless to say, the boy goes along with his Uncle to help save other worlds, with adventures abound. I haven't read all of the way to the end, but I've been told the ending is good anyhow.
Now, I like The DeathWorld Trilogy by Harry Harrison (if you don't know what that is, I've also recently taken a large liking to Starcraft) |
