Yummy!
So I got to eat some of my Mom's cooking last night, and I must say it was the best meal I have had in the last 6 months or so.
Maybe it was the mashed potatoes, or the homemade gravy. Or perhaps it was the tall glass of iced tea or mayhaps her homemade chocolate cake... ... but dammit... I feel really good right now. Say what you want about the South, but our food kicks so much ass. |
Most of it yes. I love greens, fried tomatoes, breaded anything, sausage gravy whatever, BBQ ribs, but put grits in front of me and I am not a happy fellow. Well, not unless they involve a lot of butter, salt and pepper.

Of course, there is a 1:1 ratio of sugar/grit when I DO eat them. All they are is soggy rice krispies, and I treat them as such. I smoother them with sugar. UNRELATED EDIT: Your avatar is quite creepy. |
I love it all. My favorites would probably be either crawfish or fried pickles.

I LOVE fried green tomatoes and fried zucchini...but only if they're fried using my mother's recipe.
On the topic of yummy, Thanksgiving with my family has always been a treat. My mother, father, and brother can all cook AMAZING turkey, my late paternal grandmother made the best homemade bread, my late maternal grandmother made awesome yams, and I've concocted a cranberry-mandarin orange relish that isn't half-bad. I'm also making an effort to pick up the slack in the yam and homemade bread department, but it's tough when I'm not getting paid and thus lack the resources to improve my craft. In addition, my older older sister makes the BEST chocolate chip cookies in the known universe, and my younger older sister makes an amazing homemade cheesecake. My partner also makes a pasta sauce that is better than any sauce I've ever tasted. We just consider ourselves working-class folks, but when we have enough resources, we put together an excellent table. |
Can't beat Okra when made right.

Biscuits and Gravy. King of breakfast.

My family isn't really too awesome when it comes to food... Or at least in my opinion. My paternal grandparents make German stuff but not savory meats, and the stuff they make is mediocre. My maternal grandparents make Norwegian stuff, and I don't really like that stuff either. There's ONE thing that seems to be universally well done, though Mom totally wins the world for it, and that's steak. Mom makes T-bones that are FAR better than anything I've ever been served at a restaurant.

Coke + Tim Horton's French Vanilla Flavour Shot = Vanilla coke. Though it seems like I'm the only one who liked it.
Rootbeer + Butter Caramel Flavour Shot = Caramel rootbeer... I think. It's awesome. And the best way to have eggs is scrambled with plenty of pepper and ketchup. |
I live in Alberta.
We have the greatest damn steak you will ever taste. I've been to Dallas, Phoenix, New Orleans (pre-Katrina), Kansas City, and Portland. None of those had a steak that even remotely compares to my buddy's steaks. Or my dad's steaks. Or those steaks I get from my relatives. Or those steaks I get at The Keg. |
