WHAT IS THE BEST RPG GAME OF ALL TIME??

must be a pure rpg

Seil 08-13-2007 06:21 AM

CHRONO CROSS!

Okay, okay, I'll go with Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy V or... let's say... Pokemon Blue. What!?! It's an RPG. (>>)

Chrono Cross for the win!

EVILNess 08-13-2007 06:27 AM

I'll second Chrono Cross.

Let's all say Chrono Cross! But honestly, I'd have to nominate Earthbound for best setting or Lufia for best plot twist.

Yep... Best RPG ever.

Nayno 08-13-2007 06:30 AM

Oh yeah, Chrono Cross is the greatest RPG of all time.
Original post: Chrono Cross over Chrono Trigger? Surely you jest! I'm gonna have to go with FF6 on this one, though. I approve of the plot, pacing, characters, art, soundtrack... though there are quite a few other games with superior gameplay, I think.
Man, I love that game!

Professor Smarmiarty 08-13-2007 06:30 AM

Chronotrigger makes Chronocross look like dogpiss.
If you haven't played chronotrigger go play it.
If you have played chronotrigger and don't agree with me you are an idiot and your opinions mean nothing.
End thread.
Though if we're discussing 2nd I propose FF6.

Chrono cross is the bomb. meaning that it WAS a bomb.

I nominate Baldur's Gate, the classic game based on DnD, a famous pen-and-paper RPG.

Beats FF7 in every way.

EDIT: Wow, ninja'd twice. Everyone read the spoilers, please...

Professor Smarmiarty 08-13-2007 06:46 AM

Well one problem with Baldur's Gate was it was based on 2nd edition DnD which had some hideous balance problems.
But the biggest problem I found was it seemed way too much errand running for me (go get my boots, go find my necklace, go buy me some wine, wa wa wa).
Well that and we play DnD in the same campaign setting and there so much more exciting stories you can run with it. Baldur's Gate just had a boring story.

Chrono Motherfucking Cross!!!

This is a lie. My cereal nomination goes to KOTOR. Honourable mentions for FF6 and the Baldur's Gate Saga.

Motherfuckingly good.

...I jest. I was jesting. I've never even played Chrono Cross. I just wanna see what happens when Fifth pops in here and.... *rubs hands together and cackles in glee*

Seconded - it was unique, had a very awesome storyline and the characters and settings were memorable as all get out.

Chrono Cross.

But that's a given, so maybe discussing "second place" is worthwhile: personally I'm tied in a perpetual lock between Final Fantasy Tactics, Neverwinter Nights, and Final Fantasy VII.
