It said I'm infected, then did nothing about it.
All right... I have a problem for ya'll. I've noticed a slight (MAJOR) slow down in my computer's perfromance level, and I was getting kind of worried. That's when an Anti-Spyware opened my eyes to the truth and said that my computer is full of spyware. No... really... FULL! Oh crap... all right... thanks for telling me that... get rid of it.
Whoa! Apparently that wasn't part of the deal. So now I have nearly 300 infected files or other things, and every program refused to get rid of it. It's like going to the doctor who is going to save your life, tells you you have cancer, but just to live with it. How nice... Any suggestions? I really need this stuff off! Is there really a free program out there? |
Get such products as Spybot and Ad-aware.
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/ |
Man! Spyware is really freaking annoying! I wonder if there is a way that it can be outlawed, since it is an invasion of your privacy.
|
Outlaw it or not, it'll still be around. Think of all the things people do that are illegal and/or have harsh penalties related to them. Do they still do those things regardless?
|
Yeah, spyware is kind of an invasion of privacy, but it is legal. Just read the privacy statements that programs bring up when you install them (you know, the long legal thing no one reads, they just accept?). They tell you about the spyware, or "ad-ware." I personally like Spy-bot search and destroy, but ad-aware is easier for the normal user. Just for reference, here are some programs with known spyware in them:
Hotbar Bonzi Buddy WildTangent GAIN Gator ... oh crap, forgot the rest. |
And this is why I either a) Never install anything off the net, or b) If I have to, check for spyware coming with it, and immediately hunt down the spyware and delete its executables before it can do anything.

As long as you have those, spyware isn't a problem. Just run one or both of them each time your done online, and it should clear away any spyware you get easily enough. |
Hey hey! NOw it's down to about 10%! Thanks guys! That really helped. Next time I reboot, I'm gonna get the rest of them! Thanks for the help!!
|
I have Spy Hunter. It doesn't remove the spyware, but it tells you exactly where it is. Then, open registry editor or My Computer, and death to espionage!
For some reason, I like smiting spyware myself more than letting the machine do it for me... |
Next time use an external hard drive for music exclusively then if the fuzz come to get ya destroy it like the one ring... as for spy ware i have to say that the RRIA should have there initals changed to S.S.

start over. |
That's only for when you give up. One shouldn't let the terrorists win.
|
I was actually planning on doing that anyway... I just needed a temporary soulution so I didn't have to think about it much...
