The Joy of Monty Python

My father has had the opportunity to acquire some Monty Python DVDs. I would like your opinion on what is worth getting. I will definitely go for The Meaning of Life and The Holy Grail, but is there anything else you would suggest?

life of brian! :D

I agree with Herald! Life of Brian is freaking hilarious! It's even better on DVD!

This thread will hold the key to the worst MP lines used over and over and over again..

But I agree with Life of Brian. Another one to look for is Flying Circus. Only good things can happen there.

You do know that Monty Python's Flying Circus was their television series, and consists of multiple DVDs?

Good to see you're planning on hitting up the movies. I would place Life of Brian above the Meaning of Life, but both under Monty Python and the Holy Grail. That one's just too funny.

As far as the series, I have DVD 3, which has such sketches as the Bloncmage (forgive any misspelling of that certain desert treat) and the dead parrot. Quite good. Beyond that, just look around at any other episodes you may recall or randomly select a few.

If you like John Cleese, you could also check into Faulty Towers, a series in which he starred.

Other then Holy Grail which is a must have, I've only seen a few episodes of the normal Monty Python show, so I can only really recommend Holy Grail.

Supprised no one has mentioned "And Now for Something Completely Different." Its basically just a bunch of the television sketches recreated with a movie budget, but it still is brilliant Monty Python comedy, especially if you arn't sure if you want to spend all that money on all the "Flying Circus" dvds.

Just out of curiousity am I the only one who just doesn't get Monty Python? My friends love it. I just can't understand or find the humor in it at all. I never really liked British comedy period. There's a cultural difference in comedy I think. Though again it's probably just me. lol

Well actually, MP's gets funnier as you get older. Its mostly poking fun at things that, when you're young you don't pay that much attention too. Like politics, jobs, and social structure in general. Once you at least notice these things, MP's jokes make a whole lot more sense.

I second AerodynamicHair's mention of And Now For Something Completely Different. Basically a collection of some of their funniest sketches.
