Most of the GBA games can't even be classified as "remakes", really. They're more like ports with bonus features, or "special editions". But it's not like Square-Enix doesn't have many other fresh projects on the horizon. They've got whatever the new installments are from Final Fantasy (Tactics A2; Revenant Wings; FFXIII in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla), Dragon Quest, the Mana series, and Kingdom Hearts.
And really, can you blame Square-Enix for making games that people want to buy for their portable systems? If they're making a profit on it, then there's a demand for it. |
While the prospect of totally remade FF4 isn't anything for which I'd necessarily run out and buy a DS, I do feel that this is a good omen for the re-releasing of other classic titles to which the youth of today need to be exposed.
Especially games that they just happened to port to the GBA a few months ago... |
I think the reason they are remaking it is because it had alot of glitches where it would freeze up after you do something in battle or open a chest.
|
I think the reason they are remaking is that they will never release it on the Virtual Console, so they are just looking for an excuse so they can sell it at full price.

Dragon Quest 6 is one of my most favorite games ever, and I've only played it on a fan translated ROM that excluded the dialoge for many NPCs. The writing, characters, direction, how it held my attention and gameplay were just that good to overcome these obstacles. (Plus, I once beat the game and saved the world with a team consisting of nothing but slimes. A metal, blue, healer and slime knight. How freaking cool is that?!) I'd buy two DSes just to play that game.
As for FFIV, I'm not excited about it at all. Cecil looks like he is wearing a black leotard. I'm sure the difficulty, which was FFIV's biggest attraction for me, will be toned down to the point of not being fun like they did on the FFIII remake... and the FFV remake... and the FF6 remakes. Someone raised a good point earlier in this thread. "Square" games are crap now. After attempting to play that garbage of a game known as Dawn of Mana, I think I'm done with "Square" games. |
as for remakes of "old" final fantasy games i am soooo hoping that they´ll remake VII for PS3

And in FFVI they actually fixed the vanish/doom trick, among other bugs. So I really don't see where this "toned down difficulty" is. |
They've been saying they'll remake 7 for whatever the newest system is. I heard it for GCN, PS2, PSP, and I'm fairly sure only the PSP one came out.
The news of a FF4 remake doesn't surprise me. I mean FF3 came out a few months back, so why not? Also: Definitely not buying. Special features or no, it wasn't good enough to get really far in a second time. FF3 is insanely tough. FF4 just kills off every character that would make your party good. Besides, Rosa is such a Mary-Sue. Double Also: TONED-DOWN DIFFICULTY? Clearly you're not talking about FF3. You must mean FF1 (Where they got rid of the random encounters from hell). Because FF3 doesn't screw around. It'll eat your babies. Because it makes White Mages incapable of healing fast enough. And makes everything die a lot. And can kill freaking Dragoons in TWO HITS! TWO! *Shiver* |
Final Fantasies 5 and 6 were piss-easy. Kind of hard to turn down the difficulties.
I found 4 really hard though. Don't know if it was just me. |
Gardua in the original would kick my butt every time. In the DS remake, I was no where near the level of those in that youtube clip, but Garuda barely scratched me. In fact, I don't remember purposely going around to just level up at all in that game until the end and optional bosses.
