HAITI: Why American Troops Did Not Support Aristide

The real problem is keeping things going once the foreign troops leave. Meanwhile, leftist politicians in the United States are upset that the US government did not use military force to support Aristide. The reason was simple; in the aftermath of such support, Aristide's record over the past few years would become widely known. That would be a disaster for any government supplying soldiers to keep Aristide in power. Aristide has used terror, political corruption, drug trafficking and deception to maintain himself in power over the last few years. Moreover, his politics is based on state socialism and blaming America for all his problems. Sending American soldiers to defend Aristide would not have long survived any close examination.

Meanwhile, no one has any idea of how to prevent another elected, or unelected, dictator from coming to power in Haiti and starting the cycle all over again.

Well, tens of thousands of Haitians could get in rafts and head for Miami. It happened ten years ago and it could happen again.

Thats what sucks about america. If we mind our own buissiness, people hate us for not getting involved. when we get involved, people tell us to mind our own business. I don't care just so long as they don't institute a draft.

yeah. Besides, our country set up the current situation in haiti when Clinton, unilaterally and with out international support, invaded Haiti and kicked out the government and established a dmocracy.

We also handicapped their economy with too much aid, so they never became self sufficent. They never became an actual healthy country.

... Now that I don't remember. I'm gonna have to look that stuff up. The world seems to have had a much better opinion of Americans when Clinton was in power than Bush... Everyone seemed to love Clinty.

DarthZeth 03-06-2004 01:04 PM

of course you don't remember. the media liked clinton. They didn't rail on him when he lunched unprovokes strikes against other countries and attempted to set up democracy over seas.

it was also close to 11 years ago. i was, er, 9 at the time. im assuming you were abotu the same.
