Gonzales Gone-zales

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales resigns amid pressure from Congress. Article here. About frickin' time, and hopefully his replacement will be willing and able to actually remember things. Just about everybody in the Bush administration has left now with the exception of Condeleza Rice and Dick Cheney.

What an asshole of an attorney general. I haven't hated that position so much since JANET RENO. Remember her?

Anybody that inspires a Will Ferrell bit as super badass awesome as "Janet Reno Dance Party" can't be all bad. At least she could remember her constitutional violations. How Al can possibly think it's better to come of as an absolute 100% retard instead malignant is beyond me. Maybe he was just hoping they'd go away? And really, why resign at this point? It's not like the investigation is going to stop and at least as AG he was the guy in charge of prosecuting himself. I just don't get these guys at all, but I'm glad another one is gone.

And what the hell is it with Bush appointees? It seems like the surest way to gauge how close somebody is to resigning is how strongly Bush gives them a public vote of confidence.
"This man is the single greatest X in the history of these United States. He isn't going anywhere any time soon." The next day: "I hereby accept his resignation."

It's kind of scary how many members of this administration are willing to fall on their swords for the president. That's one of two things, the way I see it. It could be an almost religious loyalty to the man, a regular cult of personality (which is scary enough on it's own!). Or it could be an acknowledgement that if the truth about what they've been doing in the White House ever got out, they'd all be going away for a quite a while.

Either way, it's quite a mess that needs to be cleaned up. Everybody who's eligible is registered to vote, right?

That doesn't really matter, considering how many baby boomers there are that vote. I don't think we'll be rid of the modern conservative era until that generation dies off. They control the elections and they appear to be too stupid to catch on to the 'game' that's being played. Sad but true.

Maybe they're getting out before it hits the fan.

No doubt about it, but in this case the rats that are fleeing the sinking ship are the ones that also helped chew the gaping hole in it. Any man, let alone attorney general, that believes that the constitution and Geneva convention are "quaint" couldn't have been up to much good himself.

What I'm really worried about is that Bush will issue several blanket pardons his last week in office thus rendering any investigations fairly moot outside historical curiosity. "Oh, so that's how many times they raped the Constitution. Interesting."

Should I take this to mean you choose to be a nonvoter? Political opinions are worthless if they aren't backed up by a ballot.

I dunno, I think pardons might get a bit messy. It's gonna be bad enough when he lets his corporate sponsors from Enron, Worldcom, Tyco and the like out of the klink. I can see him clinging to executive privilege as long as possible, though. Where things will get interesting is if Congress has the cojones (cue sarcastic laughter) to take his executive privilege claims to the Supreme Court.

Incidentally, I can think of four Constitution-rapes right off the top of my head, five if you count the Schaivo fiasco. It gives me a hollow feeling in my stomach when I think of how many have probably happened without ever making the paper.

adamark 08-29-2007 08:57 PM

I voted for Kerry, the smaller asshat of the two asshats.

Just because I vote doesn't mean I think it's worth it. All it takes is one moron to neutralize my vote. 2 morons obliterate it. What do 100 million morons' votes constitute?

Ben_Fox 09-01-2007 05:59 AM

A call to arms, that's what. When the morons vote and the majority of Americans, you know, the ones that have the good sense God gave a housefly, stay home...well, you see what we get (voter turnout in national elections is usually in the 30-40%s, that doesn't even count the folks who can't be bothered to register). When moderate voters don't vote, politics swings towards extremism.

So, who will succeed Gonzalez? I have a feeling it will be another loyal Bushie who has no problem defecating all over the Constitution live on C-SPAN. The Dems will put on a show protest to score political points with their base, then Dubya says those three magic words, "soft on defense," and they fall right back in line. Dark days, indeed.
