Video Games to Movies
In the sudden rush to grab up any video game license to put on film, Bruckheimer is trying to get the Prince of Persia onto movie screens.

It could be pretty cool. But I'd rather see the Legacy of Kain games turned into movies. Or maybe Starcraft.

Video game movies are always pretty bad, in my opinion.
If they'd made Duke 3D a movie 7 years ago, like they said they would, they'd realize their horrible mistake and the concept would never be heard of again. Unfortunately, sex crazed, teenage geeks fell in love with poor Angelina Jolie, and now people are starting to continue the gross trend. I am disappointed. All I wanted was to see FF1 in theatres. It'd be so much better than almost any other game concepts. It'd be so grand. But nobody else shares my views. Instead of plugging old, classic, origional games like FF1 or 6 or the legend of Zelda into theatres, we gotta put in crap like Tomb Raider and whatever that zombie game is. Resident Evil. I find them to be plotless. The games are bloodbaths and little more. A blood bath is not a concept for a game. They had to make up lame plots in order to progress, instead of using what works and what audiences are familiar with. Instead of FF1, for example, they made some other movie which, as far as I can tell, was completely unrelated to any FF I know, AND it wasn't interesting. The writers were pathetic and untalented, far as I'm concerned. The artwork was astounding. Fantastic. But to what good? Prince of Persia? I don't know. It has some coolness to it, it has origionality, which is a major plus. Maybe. But my experiences in the past have been a drag. So I'm highly suspicious and, unfortunately, cynical. |
The one movie I've been waiting to see is Half-Life: The Motion Picture. Johnny Depp as Gordon Freeman. Think about it, and admit it's awesomeness.
After that, the rest of them can go away or be consigned to "value rack" hell. |
Orlando Bloom as Link! Michael Clarke Duncan as Ganondorf!
And I still think Danny Devito as Mario Mario. Mario Bros. done the proper way would be nice, too. |
It was too bad the Mario Brothers movie came out when people had to have 'reason' for things. That everything had to fit in the 'real' world. A movie based on that flash Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom would be cool, though.

i have a very strict "no video games based off movies" viewing code. Pretty much every movie that hollywood has made based off of a game has been utterly terrible. and not in the sence that "it wasn't like the video game", but in a "it was a insult to the craft of moviemaking". I dont really know who hollywood thinks they're kidding, no one has enjoyed any of thier video game-movie ventures. but i've got a conspiracy theory, if you'd like to hear it.
you do? great. see, for a long while now, the video game industry has been rivialing the movie industry for the largest annual grossing industry in America. recently (as in a few years ago), video games surpassed hollywood, and now generate more money that the movies do (something in the 20-billions). so now hollywood is no longer #1, and are jelous. so what do they do? they begin a campaign to deface the video game industry with horrible movie cross-overs; they want to destroy all video games everywhere. I'm sure of it. |
Or, maybe they're just mad at the bad movies-to-games attempts. You have to admit, they have pretty much all been horrible.

The producers of American Pie have bought the rights to a Soul Calibur Movie.... ::shudder::
No, I don't really like the idea of any games being made into movies. And I DEFINITLY don't like the idea of a Mario or Zelda movie. |
Why not Zelda, yo, it might work.
A little elf avowed to saving the princess. Fighting a giant, demonic pig. Using spywork to enter caverns and mazes. Link'd be the next Indiana Jones. Except, maybe, a little more violent and a little less stern. Totally cool.. Edit - But what am I saying here... I'm still against all this! Except for FF1. If I can write the script. I could make it work. I think. |
