people's comic strip attempts

is it just me, or is everybody making comic strips? Is this some sort of cry for attention, or are yall just that bored? Just wondering. I did mine cuz I was bored off my ass

Forever Zero 03-05-2004 06:09 PM

I haven't done one because, well, my art style sucks, and I don't think I could make a good, original sprite comic. As for the others, I don't know, but my vote is desperate cry for attention...

CelesJessa 03-05-2004 06:32 PM

I would draw a comic (just out of being bored or something), but I don't know if everyone would think my crazy humor is funny. ^^;; I have made little comics before but I never posted them because they had to do with inside jokes and nobody else would get them..

Well, I have made mangas with friends before... I'm in book 2 of my Chrono Trigger spin-off manga-thing, and book 2 of my Magic Knight Rayearth spinoff, but I think they have died... aw... And I can't scan them (even if my scanner was working) because we drew them in pencil and it's all smeared now. I should make a comic sometime though.

But I think people make their comics because somewhere deep inside, the wish to be as popular and successful as Brian someday. ^^;

I have a script for an episode, and an idea for a series, but I draw worse than most three year-olds...

StormRider 03-05-2004 07:51 PM

I write fanfiction, which is basically wordy manga for people without artistic talent (like myself).

froofmyster 03-05-2004 08:08 PM

I write my Webcomic because it's fun!

Just Jon 03-05-2004 08:36 PM

I tried setting one up where I would write and they would draw, but he didn't really stick with it.

And I wanted to do it in hopes we would get good enough where we could make something worth actual real life money. And the adoring fans. So yes, cry for attention.

I did it for the fun. Slight fame, but mainly fun.

Ghost Who Walks 03-05-2004 11:17 PM

It is fun. A true writer will create a story not for the fame, but for the pleasure of writing. If people didn't enjoy making them, they would not. It is as simple as that.
... episode 8 is online.

I make comics for only my friends just to entertain. It sounds nice getting recognition for your hard work but I don't care about that. As long as I'm enjoying making comics, I'll continue doing them.

What?!!

You mean to say that NO ONE does their webcomic for quasi-celebrity status, or Money? crazy...

Well, MY webcomic was developed through highschool... First it was an attemp to add content to the school's webpage, but it began growing... and we wanted to do somethign with it. So, soon, i will be advertising me and my friends webcomic venture far and wide through the internet. Its all funny, and super-cool. Also, I want to sell T-shirts. Money, Money Money... :thief:

Ah, t-shirts... they're what can make or break a comic.
Or at least the merchandise.

A friend and I are working on a few webcomics together actually. A fan-comic, a tribute fan-comic, and a semi-side-story on a tribute fan-comic.
The fan-comic and the semi-side-story rely on roleplays for the scripts. FC is a sprite comic, where Triple-S is anime. (She's an EXCELLENT anime artist :D )
The tribute comic, however, relies on pieces that we both add to in paragraphs in a lengthy story form.

We hope to get the site up by the start of next year at the latest.

I like making comics just for fun. I show 'em to my friends, and I update them a lot (already done about... 50 episodes I think...) but personally I don't like hosting them on a website. Then I would feel almost 'pushed' to make comics and for me it wouldn't be so much fun anymore. Then again, fame and fortune's always good! :D

xmastree 03-08-2004 08:47 PM

Does anybody actually talk about comics in this site!?

slightly aboveaverage man 03-08-2004 08:52 PM

I have not created a comic due to my fear that knowing how it's done will ruin the experience for me.
It happened with movies; after taking a filmmaking course and producing several successful local films, I could no longer watch movies because I no longer see the plot/storyline... all I see now are camera angles, score and lighting.

AAARRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!

Trev-MUN Hates AOL 03-08-2004 08:55 PM

Zing! Ow, ow. You're breakin' my heart, Behemoth! :(

Right. Here's why I did the following:

(The Legend of) Key-Fu: Initially it was just some silly-ass short comic I did for another community during my birthday, among some other things (one of which Mortis helped me out with - I gave him some sprites, the idea, and in exchange for some wallpapers by me, he made it happen).

Then the next year I decided to keep going. I do Key-Fu mainly because it makes people laugh.

Ragnarok Wisdom: Primarily I do this comic because I don't draw enough. The comic forces me to draw every five days (when I don't cut corners by reusing images in order to get a comic out on time). The comic brings in a small amount of regular visitors, so I guess I'm making people laugh with it, heh - the other reason why I do the comic.

RW's become read so much that it's become pretty hard to keep up with the bandwidth demands...

Forum Culture: A string of funny mental images that popped into my head while doing other things. I wrote them down and decided to do something with them than let them plague my head saying "DO ME" like a ... like a... ... something.

I make comics because it's hellishly fun to come up with strange, twisted worlds and plotlines. I love the storytelling experience. ^_^

Dreyfuss 03-09-2004 01:48 AM

Heh, I'm doing it for the opposite reason of most people here. Mostly just to get my name on something public. And there's nothing I'd rather be associated with than 8BT. Of course, I'm also doing it as a Thank You to Brian for all the laughs over the last year or so, and also because I always wanted to make my own story about the cast of 8BT, but yeah, mainly for the fame =P By the way, where do I submit guestcomics anyway?
