Dueltech moves in more Squaresoft games.....
I'm in the middle of playing Chrono Trigger for the first time, and I really like the ability to use two to three people to combine their skills and make a powerful attack. I wonder, why did Squaresoft never use combo move in any other games? CT was a big success, and hugely popular among FF fans. What if they made a real-time FF online game, where you have a single character, and different classes can use abilities. And why didn't Chrono Cross have duel skills, and combinations?
What do you think on the duel tech combination system? Should future games have that? |
...Chrono Cross did have dual techs. Serge and Glenn are the first ones to use X strike (Main character and Frog, AKA glenn from CT?). It's just harder to find them in CC. FFTA has it too, they're Combos - they're harder than CC's combos, but if you get up to four people around one person all with combo abilities you can crank out SHITLOADS of damage.

CC had the grand total of 3 dual techs and one triple tech, which is sad compared to Chrono Trigger which had close to 200 duals and 15 triples.
There is good news. If you go and play a srries called 'Suikoden', then you can once again take part in the use of combining skills and techs with the characters. And since there's 108 characters in every Suikoden game and most of the skills are based on Magic and Techniques that are both unique to charaters and learnable, there's a heck of alot of combonations to be made. I know that Suikoden II has alot more than Chrono Trigger. |

Also: FF:CC is suppose to have some dual things. If two characters cast an ice spell at the same area the spell will become a more powerful one and stuff like that. |
Err, There are more than 3. If I can dig up the old chronoshock site, I can show you.
(i just wnet to chronoschock.com THIS VERY SECOND...THEY RELAUNCHED! FINALLY! YES!!! Too bad there's little to no content yet :P) Anyway, http://web.archive.org/web/200104190...m/dttech.shtml 9 dual and 2 triple. |
There are many, many duel techniques in Suikoden... But somehow it felt like CT really simplified them. I mean, every pairing had their own duel tech, and almost all the trios (I think... It's been awhile. I have to dig it up again)
I don't know, somehow it just felt easier to pull off, without the strain of putting the exact pairs together. Though with Robo and Lucca I could take out Lavos easy with their big duel tech... Good times. |
while its not exactly the same legia 2 had some tag team attacks you could use that would deal major amounts of damage on anything

I've only played Suikoden III (which I thought was average, not particularly great) and it seemed as if the combo attacks except for a few (basically the mounted ones were good) were ranging from so-so to not worth it at all. Just my opinion.

The disadvantage to the Paired system in Suikoden III was that the combos and some of the freedoms from the system in the previous two games were lost. This is why I'm hoping for the hopeful Fall release of Suikoden IV that they won't have the paired system and return to the indavidual 6 person party system from #'s 1 and 2. It will make combonations alot more avaliable (as the videos I've seen have shown some superb sword centered combos already) and make it so we don't have to wait for spells to load.
In my opinion, Suikoden II shows a game system that has a GOOD reason to be turned based. |
