A Dilemma

Okay, guys, I have a bit of a situation that I need an outside opinion on. Recent events have lead to me being almost desperate to play a traditional Japanese RPG - traditional in a Final Fantasy kinda way. It just so happens that - get this - I have never played FF10. It also happens, unfortunately, that I don't have a PS2. I can, however, afford one. The question is this: do I shell out 200 bucks for a console and a game that I will have relatively little time to play for quite a while, especially considering the upcoming gaming rush?

Personally, I'd recommend saving your money for the game rush. Hell, you could just buy Blue Dragon, which is supposed to be a traditional Japanese RPG.

It also supposed to be very generic and boring so...

I would reccomend either getting a PS2, unless you had intetn to get a PS3, since the PS2 probably has at least 30 amazing games you can find in stores nowadays for less then $30.

Be that as it may, FFX sucks.

Why?
Gimme a reason if you're gonna disagree with people.

We'll just report ya for spamming now.

In any case, the PS2 has quite some solid titles, including JRPGs, you so suddenly crave.
You can get that shooter later. RPGs are NOW!
No, but seriously. It's your money, but I'm saying get another console, and you get access to some classics. PLUS, if you can find the discs, you'll also have access to PS1 games.

It's like, two consoles for the price of one, Josh!
Amazing, that, John!

Get the PS2 man, I mena, over the next 2 months alone, 5 great games are dropping, King of Fighters XI, NeoGeo Battle Colliseum, Accent Core, Soul Nomad (get this if you get a PS2, it is made by the geniuses behind Disgaea, the best tactical RPG ever) and Growlanser 5, which also happens to come with bonus swag like an art book, soundtrack and some other nifty shit.

Actually ffx, in my opinion, had the best battle system in all the final fantasy games. I really wish I could have skiped most of the cut scenes however.

FFX is a mixed bag. It has probably the best battle engine out of any Final Fantasy. It also has, on the surface, an interesting set of characters and pleasing graphics and an interesting story. However, after you play it once...you tend to get the feeling of 'what the heck did I see in that thing?!'

And if you are looking for a 'traditional Japanese RPG like Final Fantasy'. Oh, FFX is NOT the one you are looking for. yes its a Final Fantasy. But it is one of the Final Fantasy games that tried to radically change its own design. In many good ways mind you, especially in terms of the gameplay, but I'm just telling you since you want a 'traditional RPG'.

My suggestion. Try going with the Suikoden series. Starting from the beginning and working your way up to II and III. It will give you something fresh, that is very much still a 'traditional Japanese RPG' and plays VERY much like one. But also is quite original at the same time and instead of changing RPG archetypes, just takes what is already there and adds to it a TON and makes everything that already exists a whole new level of amazing. Especially in Suikoden II.

Dude, that's what he said he wanted.

Save your money for the gaming rush, there's no reason to spend two hundred dollars a PS2 for one game, let alone a JRPG, let alone FFX.

There's like a million amazingly awesome PS2 games, but if you've already played them or aren't interested don't buy a whole system for one game.
