Prefered leveling up method

was playing iRO last night with a freind, and i was debating whether to power level him, or get out one of my lower level guys and level with him. so just a question of what you prefer to do in an mmorpg (assuming all three choices are pretty much equal, and freindly tanks/equal level teammates are available).

Power leveling is only good in an rpg you don't care that much about and are willing to just do wathever to look cool.

yea power leveling takes away all the challenge out of the game

Power Leveling, because that's what I did for my Wizard. I got to level 70 in about 6 hours of power leveling.

Equal level training because it doesn't get as boring when your solo, but you don't run the risk of dieing in one hit like power leveling

Depends on whether it's got actual roleplaying or not. If it's only in RPG in the basis of you get levels and shit, like just about every MMORPG, then powerlevelling, because all there is to do is get buff and beat shit up. If it's like an RP enforced MUD, however... I like to go solo, and, in the case of a system to hide your levels from others, not tell anyone how strong I am till I fill their ass full of hot lead/magic lightning/lasers... depending.

What is power leveling?

Krylo 03-06-2004 04:34 PM

Power levelling is when you pair a level 2 guy with a level 70 guy, and the level 70 guy kills level 70 monsters, getting the level 2 guy half of the experience from those kills, thus levelling the level 2 guy to level 70 in a few hours.

im not much a fan of powerleveling myself, however i've been doing it lately with my freind's character in iRO simply because i want to play with my freind, but not have to start a whole new character. i personaly prefer equivilant level groups, i like to reminince back to the early days of my guild in Earth and Beyond, when we'd constantly have packs of people hunting lvl 20 Claimjumpers in Carpenter...man, good times.

all in all, ive been unimpressed with Ragnarok Online's community. ive been playing for about a month and a half and i've yet to find any good groups. everyone is either running solo, or pleading for high level people to tank for them. all the groups seem to be guilds running around in PvP and the high level dungeons. as a mid-level swordsman, i can never find anyone my level to work with. whenever i manage to find someone to group with, they're either braindead or they dont speak english (nothing against non-english speaking people, its just hard to work with them). i mean, i dono, maybe its me; maybe im not looking hard enough.

I fugging hate it when the browser moves me out of a reply and when I try to get back, what I've written is gone. Maybe I should start typing up posts on notepad first...

Anyway. I hate soloing. In iRO, I am Aragan the Acolyte, a 62/46 superaco. For me, leveling alone is not only boring but tedious. I have much more fun in a mosh pit with people I can share EXP with, going into some dungeon that'd be dangerous or deadly when alone and having at it.

Power leveling (or tanking as I hear it known more often...) isn't as fun. In some cases though, it can be - for example, during the Open Beta 3 period, I didn't tank one of my friends or do the fighting for him. Instead, he (as a brand spanking new swordie), a friend of his at the same level, and I all went up to the Coal Mines. They fought the monsters there (which as you know are pretty honkin' deadly for someone their level) and watched over them - healing them, buffing them, e.t.c. It was an enjoyable experience, and I wasn't doing all the work for them... just covering their collective ass. :D

Anyway, I have the most fun in a group leveling setting. My current build and stature makes it impossible for me to be like those "1337" MVPers, and I wouldn't want to be one anyway.
