The Sammich Thread

It had to happen sooner or later.

This is a thread to post your favorite Sammich recipe, type, or whatever.

Also feel free to post random Sammich related stuffs ^_^

Personally I like Dagwood class Sammiches with many different types of Meat and Cheese. Especially Swiss with Dijon Mustard:D

take two slices of bread. Lop 1/4 to 1/3 lbs pf Ham and/or Turkey. add Woeburs Horseradish Sauce. Enjoy with Swiss Cheese.

Get a piece of Naan bread, toast it in a pan, brush with olive oil, add a little garlic and black pepper, and... Well, closest thing to a sammich I've had recently.

Explain Naan, and Woeburs Horseradish Sauce.

I am a great of Caraway Rye, or any thick heavy dark bread in general. Top that with Turkey, Swiss or Pepperjack, slap on some lettuce, sprouts, and any kind of sauce that's handy, and I'll be the happiest man ever.

Lettuce is evil. It tastes like water (which is to say nothing) and just uses space on your sandwiches you COULD have used for better things, like cheese.

If you MUST have a lettuce like substance on your sandwich, get fresh baby spinach. It's about a million times tastier.

Also--Chipotle Sauce and Mayo mixed together go good on damn near any sandwich. It's delicious incarnate.

My personal favorite sandwiches, however, are Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwiches. You put stuffing on each piece of bread, then a few pieces of turkey on one side and cheese on the other (and some noodles, if you're from my family--we have delicious noodles for thanksgiving), and then slam a bunch of cranberry sauce (home made, preferably) in the center.

The turkey/stuffing/cheese keep the cranberry sauce from destroying your bread and getting all over, and it is delicious as hell.

Even better with the tangy zip of miracle whip.

Edit:

As for Naan--it's a flatbread eaten mostly in the middle east. As for flavor, I'm unsure. Never had the stuff.

And Woeburs is just a brand name of Horseradish. Apparently Tretyal likes it better than other brands.

I will typically go with any and all types of pig- or bird-based meat with provolone cheese and no veggies. I'm not picky on the bread, though I've found that I like wheat over white and detest sourdough.

I mean, who the fuck makes sour bread? What's wrong with people?

greed 09-11-2007 12:55 AM

My favourite sandwich? Probably ham from the local butcher and a sharp cheese on toasted sour dough bread, simple but made from the best ingredients around.

On weird sandwiches I've found that proper salami(the kind that's actually looks and tastes like meat that comes in whole sausages rather than slices) with peanut butter works frighteningly well.

On Naan, flavour wise it varies a great deal. It's as Krylo said a middle eastern flat bread, it can come in different varieties like bread can, my favourite is the one with potato and spices baked into it, that stuff is awesome, but you can also get ones with curry pastes in them, or herbs baked into the crust.

The man speaks sense. Spinach is not only infinitely yummier on sandwiches, it's also better for you, in that, unlike lettuce, it has discernible nutritional value. (Really, lettuce is like nine-tenths water and one-tenth tedium flavoring.) Sprouts are also surprisingly delicious, even if they do taste a bit like grass.

Also, cheddar. The sharper, the better. Or pepper jack, if you seek a hotter alternative. They're great melted or sliced right off the block.

I don't know about all of you, but I like onions on many of my sandwiches, when I can be bothered to brave the eye-watering. Between the onions and a particular brand of sweet hot mustard which I adore (a quick look in the refrigerator informs me that it's "Beaver Brand Sweet Hot Mustard", which I assume is a local delicacy), I do not make myself particularly pleasant to kiss after I've had a good sandwich.

I'm not too particular about sandwich meats--I don't mind ham or turkey (packaged or holiday leftover) or bacon or beef (tho' I don't get that often, less so when you exclude hamburgers), among other things. Pepperoni's surprisingly good as a sort of complementary meat in a sandwich, but it's not very satisfying as the primary meat filling. (For some reason, that last phrase sounded awfully dirty to me...)

DOUBLE GASP!!

Naan is delicious, and it seems like every restaurant around here that serves naan has a different recipe. All yummy.

Anyway, yeah, it's a flatbread. You can usually order it at Indian restaurants-- it's great with curry. I've never used it in a sandwich, but it's fantastic if you drizzle it with melted butter and cinnamon sugar, or with honey, and then nuke it for a second. Mmmmmm..... naaaaaaan...

Favorite sandwich: I've taken a liking to swiss cheese, romaine or spinach and Marie's Blue Cheese Dressing sandwiches on dark multigrain bread. Especially if you nuke the bread and cheese before adding the greens and dressing, so it's melted a bit. Yummy.

Also-- Anything with roasted veggies. Especially roasted bell peppers.

Tuna with a pinch of lemon juice and some green onion on wheat bread.

EDIT: Krylo, that sandwich sounds both tasty and like a crime against humanity...I love it! XD
