Robert Jordan has passed away

To relieve the load on Dragonmount, here's the copy-paste of the relevant post:

Sometimes even when you’ve fought your best….

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name.

Editor’s Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan’s family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.
Now, while I could never call WoT a tremendous literary accomplishment, that never lessened my enjoyment. I thoroughly regret this passing.

Rest in peace, Jordan. Thanks for all your work getting the twelfth book ready for this eventuality.

O.O Well that was a surprise.

Well, only partly, I've known that he was sick for a while, but I didn't expect to him to actually die. Faith in Medical Science for the lose. :(

Not to sound insensitive to the fact that he died, but what exactly does this mean about the 12th novel? I'm going hope that he made some kind of notes on it so someone else could finish it...but...

Eltargrim 09-17-2007 06:57 AM

Yeah, basically what's been going on is that he's been dictating story outlines and such. Chances are we'll see a conclusion in one form or another.

Also, I had pretty much the same reaction. I want a conclusion!

Tendronai 09-17-2007 08:13 AM

Wow... I thought he was doing fine.

Sadly, I must admit that the first thing that went through my mind was "No conclusion? Aw, damn..." I hope what he's left is enough.

What I heard was that he gave his son the rights and all the remaining plotpoints and is getting him to finish it off, Dune style.

I am deeply saddened, Jordan was one of my favorites and I will miss his work.

I actually never read Wheel of Time but I think I've been through like one or two of his other books. He wrote Conan the Destroyer and some shit like that, right? Those were pretty good from what I recall, so good on him.

I have to say that's pretty classy of him getting all his notes down and things to make sure his WoT fans get some kind of proper conclusion; if it were me I'd drag you fuckers through 15,000 pages of story and be like Hahahaha you fuckers, I'm taking the ending to the grave!

Mike McC 09-17-2007 03:00 PM

Yeah, it's sad that he's passed on. I was looking forward to the series he was gonna write after Wheel of Time. The fantasy literature world has lost a titan.

As for the 12th book, he was getting out his notes, and getting enough framework for the book to be finished. Now it's up to his wife and the president of Tor Fantasy on the ifs and hows to finish the book. I'm sure they'll agree to finish off the book, if only for a monument and a memorial, and make sure his magnum opus is completed.

Oh man, for a moment I thought that was Terry Goodkind, and I was going to have to un-kill someone.

Yeah but sorry to see Jordan go.

Mintaro 09-18-2007 12:38 PM

I called it *laughs maniacally* When book 9 went no where and I could tell he was dragging the stories out I told every one I talked to he was going to die before the series was finished and I was right! MWa ha ha ha ha! Although now I'm irritated the series won't be finished by the same author. Oh well, I've read some of the stuff written by Tolkien that was spliced together to make books, it didn't turn out that badly. Of course Robert Jordan isn't as good of an author but he's good enough (and far better than I).

Though in all seriousness it sucks that he died of an illness and not of natural causes. Well hopefully the next two books will be good. Because I'm sorry but where he left the ending of the last book, you need at least two more. That or your just going to gloss over a lot of very very important plot lines and prophecies.

Now all of you raise a glass (or can) and toast the dead author, I command it!

edit - Sorry I meant book 9, Winters heart.
