It's a drive-in?

Edit: There's a Don Martin cartoon with exactly that punchline. Life imitates art after all.

Wow, he must've got some sweet air.

I wish there was a news story to go with all of the pictures. What on earth would cause an accident like that? Also, to get through decent brickwork, he'd have to be going at a pretty high speed, window or no window.

This looks way too clean to be real, and the van looks to be in too good of shape.

I've seen the results of an accident like this and they were nowhere near as neat and tidy as this one.

42PETUNIAS 09-20-2007 10:34 AM

Yeah, you've definitly got a point. I mean, look at the outline of the brick wall around it.

Zilla 09-20-2007 10:39 AM

What really gets me is the straight row on the top. That is the least likely to happen of all the places for there to be a straight row.

The crash I saw had a much more O shaped pattern of destruction, and the car didn't go through the wall and was very damaged.

The hole might have already been there. I notice in those pictures there's a lot of boarded up windows and the like on that house; it may be abandoned or condemned. Also, in the pictures you do see the lower lip of that cut out hole to be curled in under the van. So yes, the majority of that hole was cut out beforehand, but there is evidence that the van actually did go through it, and from the outside of the house.

So, I'm thinking the hole was cut in the wall to move some large things out of the building, or perhaps just for rennovation purposes, and this guy was speeding down the way, hit the cement lip there, and happened to launch into the hole in the wall already there. Unlikely, but it could happen. Also is the possibility that it was a drunken dare.

Or the van could have already been in the house or something, for whatever reason. I'm thinking that might be more likely.

I found the article to go with the images.

But because of the velocity of the van, it hit the structure with such force that the youth avoided a 12-foot plunge into a gap of space between a parking lot and the building.

The accident occurred about 6:14 p.m. at Wayne and Wilmington avenues, Bardun said.

No one was in the apartment because of a fire a month ago.

The teen, who was not identified by name, was cited to court on charges of driving without a license, reckless operation and failure to maintain reasonable control of his vehicle, then released, Bardun said.

And know what? Fire gives a perfect reason for a hole to be there, might've needed replacing due to fire damage, and give an access for removing the fire-damaged debris.
