The Greatest Albums

Fairly simple concept... what do you think are among the greatest albums ever recorded? It's a question I like to ask every once in a while, and compare notes on. Feel free to discuss the selections people make too, of course. Anyway, my choices, in no specific order:

Soundgarden, Superunknown
Radiohead, OK Computer
Gorillaz, Gorillaz
Rage Against the Machine, The Battle of Los Angeles
The Postal Service, Give Up
The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Soul Coughing, El Oso
Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison
Wilco, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Sufjan Stevens, Illinois

There, a list of ten should be good enough to start things off. Good mix of "Well, DUH" albums, and some lesser known but still awesome personal favorites in there. Anyhow, what do you all have to say?

Well obviously SgtGP and Pet Sounds.
Aside from that:
The White Album, Beatles
Night at the Opera and News of the World, Queen (alongside all thier other albums, teehee!)
Tommy and Whose Next, The Who
Appetite for Destruction, G&R
What can I say? I like concept albums

As for complete albums, there are three that I probably don't go a week without listening to them all the way through in one shot:

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. The album is a complete experience. Sure, its possible to listen to the songs individually, one at a time or randomly, but if you do that you're missing the point and doing yourself a great disservice. The album itself is a single piece of work, and after a diffficult day I will lie on my bed and play it, and lose myself in it before I go to sleep.

Metallica S&M by Metallica. I've been a Metallica fan for, well, ever, and there is so much going on in this album that every time I listen to it I hear something that I have never heard before. The orchestration on some songs is nothing less than phenomenal, and if you've never heard the orchestrated version of Call of Ktulu, I command you to do so now. Sound quality nto great on youTube clip, but what have you.

Time Out by Dave Brubeck. As a jazz musician, I've always admired Brubeck's work, and the way he can screw with time signatures and still manage to make everything sound so right. I wish I was that talented.

All I've got to add is Reise Reise by Rammstien, which I for some reason like EVERY TRACK on.

That's somewhat of a rarity for me.

It's not so much that I don't think it's possible to list five albums that are "the greatest" so much as I just don't feel that I myself am qualified to do so. That said, five albums which I enjoy a good deal:

Queen: Classic Queen. Love of operatic synth-rock or just another expression of my closet homosexuality? Answer: Freddy Mercury rocks!

Muse: Origin of Symmetry. Because they were cooler before they sold out. And by "sold out" I mean "people I personally know other than me had heard about them."

Green Day: Insomniac. Mostly because "Dookie" is just a stupid name to have to say when people ask you your favorite album.

Head Automatica: Decadence. What popular music would sound like if popular music weren't so shitty. Unless these guys are particularly popular, I mean I really just don't follow these things any more.

Queens of the Stone Age: Songs for the Deaf. Just badass enough for people who don't actually kick ass any more but want to listen to music that makes them feel like they could, if they really wanted to.

In summation: two queens two jacks and a joker! Full house!

Man, I totally forgot about this one until I got in the car today, and bam, there it was.

AC/DC - Back in Black

I'd like to add American Idiot, which was, aside from that fucking september song, an all around awesome punk album.

Edit- Oh wow this thread's like a week old, go figure.

That's three words. What are you, an American?

Breaking Benjamin - Phobia

Love every song on that thing.
