Spirits Within

Okay, I just have to ask this. Am I the only one who thought that Final Fantasy: Spirits Within was an awesome movie? Yeah, it didn't have a lot in common with the series, but I still think it was a great movie, and a lot of people seemed to hate it. The graphics were great, and overall I thought it was a fun watch. Am I wrong?

It was a good movie. I personally thought the characters looked completely not realistic, which I believe was due to how closely they mimiced the look of real people and yet could not get every aspect right, thus those mistakes, those missing parts leapt out in full technocolor.

People wanted Final Fantasy and they got Spirited Away or some crap like that.

They wanted Final Fantasy, and they got 'Generic Sci-Fi Movie'. It's not bad, but it's nothing really special, and, as CJ pointed down a couple of posts after this one, very boring. Just a middle-of-the-road plain-ol' boring sci-fi flick that happened to be CG animated.

I hated every moment of watching that horrible movie. It not only failed as a Final Fantasy movie, it just failed, period. Even putting aside that every single thing in that film moved like some godsblighted mechanical marionette, it was still like listening to nails scraped down a chalkboard inside my own skull. The 'funny' lines weren't funny, the 'dramatic' lines weren't dramatic, the 'action' didn't even fucking exist. Every time someone spoke or acted or anything happened it was like there was this hole where there was supposed to be something to actually make me give a shit, and I kept waiting for someone to actually fill one of those holes in, but nobody ever did.

Granted I watched it what, like 6 years ago? So maybe time's clouded my memory a bit on it. But yeah I don't recall a whole lot of goodness in there.

I'm pretty easy to please as far as movies go, but I don't remember liking Spirits Within too much. I really don't remember a lot about it other than being really bored and waiting for something awesome....

Although I was expecting magic and awesome swordfights, so maybe I didn't like it because it didn't meet my expectations.

bluestarultor 09-26-2007 02:46 PM

That was one of the main complaints, actually. People walked in expecting to see Bolt-2 and Shiva and got a neo-biotechnologically-based world with no magic or giant swords. Essentially, if you take it for what it is, it's an okay, if short, movie overall. If you go in expecting actual FF-ness, it's a big disappointment.

I think too many people were expecting an ff7 movie. And yeah, it didn't have that fantasy mixed with technology feel that most ffs do.

It was, overall, an ok movie. Not great, but certainly not horrible.

That movie sucked hard, not just because it had nothing to do with final fantasy. It was just boring, REALLY boring.

I don't see how you can get spirited away from it.

Hey - I liked the movie. I didn't think that it had anything at all to do with Final Fantasy, but I did like the movie. I thought it was neat.

Except Spirited Away is a Miyazaki masterpiece of magic and friendship, while Spirits Within is just a pile of crap with some elements of Final Fantasy, but not enough to make it at any point interesting.
