With the exception of Rydia, everyone had spiky armor in that video. Even the white mage.

See. Don't the in game characters for this game look like they are upgraded versions of those characters from the 'tech demo' Square did back with the FFVI characters on the N64? But now they're making a whole DS game around them.

In theory this isn't a problem and it could work fine. Even be enjoyable to see them return to a more 'retro' design and 'lesser' graphical state. But...they're trying to pair them up with some of the best FMV sequences I've ever seen, in-game voices and HEAVY dramatic scenes that seem to be even more overplayed than the original game. All with these in-game models that make me recall FFVII.

Still, I'm not really complaining because I'm all 'OMG RUINING FFIV!' I was never a huge fan on the game in the first place. I'm worried because of the fact that I was really anticipating a DS remake of FFV and VI. And now...if FFV and more importantly VI is going to end up looking like this.... I just don't really see a point. I'm more inclined to believe an actual console is needed to fully realize everything FFVI needs in a remake. FFV may be able to be remade ok on a handheld (although I still don't think it should be like this), but FFVI needs a console if Square is showing us that this is how far the DS can go with 3D modeling and all that.

They probably should have done all this on the PS2 if they were going to go all 3D modeling and stuff with FFIV and all...

Somehow I cannot take the super deformed models of the characters seriously in that video, yet the original sprites from the SNES managed to make me cry. They look too dollish for my tastes, and they do not let me fill the gaps the same way the original sprites did.

Or maybe it is the voice acting. I don't know.

I don't understand the craze with FFIV. Someone, explain it to me. Please.

Its the SNES FFVII. Its the first jRPG many people in the US played and the one many people identify with being 'young'. Where many people now adays remember back to FFVII as their first RPG or the 'game they bought the PSX for', many others, including far too many people who review games online, hark back to FFIV (or FFII as they call it) to being the game that 'got them into RPGs'.

Fond memories, nostalgia, spoony bard, etc.

Speaking of which, you can bet your barnacles there be no Spooky Bards in this version. DRAMA!

Know waht would be awsesome? If Square made new IPs instead of remakes and sequels. Seriously, I could understand a single spinoff to FFVII to answer some questions, but each one is designed to allow another. Same with the BS theyre doing with Ivalice and FFXIII. I swear to god, I am sick of FF. Do some new stuff for once.

Let it be said that the theory of a FF7 remake for the PS3, if it's either confirmed or unconfirmed, is something Square is going to cocktease everyone about for like a billion years.

I'm just lucky since I'm one of the people who honestly doesn't give a fuck about FF7.

Freedom!

I also don't care for FF7. And...Uh...Don't you mean a single spinoff to FF7, Lord of Joshelplex? And I still don't understand the crazy about FFIV. Sorry.

EVILNess 10-03-2007 09:33 PM

They need to concentrate more on the Enix properties.

I mean, my Dragon Quest Tactics isn't gonna make it self.

FF7 Spinoffs: Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, some anime movie I dont recall, and an implied Dirge of Cerberus 2.
