Bloody Roar fans?

If I had to choose one 3D fighting franchise to love, it would be Bloody Roar. I loves me some BR. Actually, I think I would love just about any game that had a button to fulfill the need to BEASTORIZE!

...Yes. 'Beastorizing' is what it's called. Not "Transforming," or "Shifting," which are cliche', or even "Awakening," which sounds a little too Goth-poetry. Beastorizing, however, appeals to that part of me which will be eight years old for the rest of my life (which means, pretty much all of my brain).

The games have issues, oh yes. I'm not saying that they're the perfect fighting games out there. But I love them like I don't love any other 3D fighting games. I had so much goddamned fun with Bloody Roar 2.

BR3 was kind of a disappointment, I'll admit. The once robust and excellent voice-acting was seriously toned down and not nearly as good. Also, they added a few characters who should've been aborted at the planning table. Seriously, Xion, in a game where everyone changes into an animal, how are you allowed to get away with the animal form of UNBORN?

I've never heard of an Unborn. Apparently, whatever it is, it's like a robot praying mantis with laser-blade arms that has unblockable moves which knock you out of your Beast form no matter what you're doing. Same goes for that Bakuryru rip-off who turns into the IRON MOLE. I'm not a zoologist, but that doesn't exactly sound like a naturally-occurring creature.

Still, I re-bought BR3 the other day, and I'm on the lookout for BR1 and 2. I still haven't tried BR4, to my shame, but I'll probably be buying it soon. We've got a new BR4 at work... though "new" in this instance simply means it's never been bought. That thing is OLD. It was at Gamestop before I was first hired, back in '05.

I think I'll buy it tomorrow.

Oh my god. I completely forgot this game! Killer giant bunny FTW! What happened to that series?

ThunderousWrath 10-05-2007 01:54 AM

It's dead as of BR4, unfortunately.

I was originally going to post this in the 'Mourn the Dead Franchises' topic, but I decided Bloody Roar was so awesome it deserved a topic of its own.

Still, Bloody Roar is amazing.

It has some cool characters, but Im not really a fan of the actual fighting engine. Its just not all that balanced, but then again, Ive only played BR4

delusional_chik 10-05-2007 10:17 AM

I played that series when I was like....seven!

Yeah, what happened? Jenny the Bat FTW!!!

mudah.swf 10-05-2007 10:31 AM

great, a fighting game where everyone is a furry.

Lord of Joshelplex 10-05-2007 10:32 AM

It also has amazing acting, and by amazing, I mean the worst acting in the history of acting.

delusional_chik 10-05-2007 10:32 AM

Basically.....except they become furries ON DEMAND!!!!

And these furries are pretty kickass.

ThunderousWrath 10-05-2007 12:47 PM

I was waiting for the first accusation of furry-dom, and honestly, I wasn't sure what I'd say.

If becoming a kickass were-lion at the touch of a button in order to lay the smack down is the description of questionable sexual preference, then sign me up!

...Wow, that came out wrong.

Anyway, I'll probably buy BR4 today. According to Joshelplex, the voice acting is terrible... even worse than 3, I imagine? Man... I still remember BR2, where the voice-acting was not only passable, but actually pretty rad.

Lord of Joshelplex 10-05-2007 12:50 PM

Imagin lip synching so bad that they can continue talking for upwards of 5 seconds with no voice coming out, and that the voices are so terrible and fit so poorly that you wonder why we were born with ears. Its knida fun though, not my cup of tea however.
