Blackguard... Now what?

I have an elven character in DnD with 3 paladin levels and 10 blackguard levels. I recently leveled up, but I can't really find a prestige class that I'd like to go in to now. You know, one with the whole ultimate evil thing going for it. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Do you have access to the Book of Vile Darkness? If not, try to! In particular, there's a Warrior of Shadow or something in there that would probably work really well for you.

Book of Vile Darkness, first D&D book to have an 'Explicit Content' warning on it :D :D

But he is right, check out that book!

It's Warrior of Darkness, and I am not fond of the prestige class at all. I say get the book of darkness and absorb the information. I like deciples of mephistopheles because of their ability to wield hellfire, but that's just me. Find a horrible evil class that's just for you ;) plus when you gain your next feat you can choose from vile feats.

A Dragon mag I read has rules for variant Paladin core classes, Paladins of different alignments, including the evil ones.

I didn;t really like it... it got rather preachy in the beginning. There was another book simply called "Evil" that handled villains a lot better (IMO). The book of VD treats all villains as irredeemable scum, which is good for hack and slash, but hardly enough for a true campaign. Of course, that's IMO too...

I never said I particularly LOVED BoVD, but I thought of the Warrior of Darkness for the sheer merit that its requirements are not terribly exacting and that because it's not tied to any demons/devils, it can be pretty much superimposed into any campaign setting without too much fuss.

Not to mention it's abilities generally compliment the Blackguard.

Book of Vile Darkness, on the whole, is more often than not filled with tonnes of stuff I'll never be able to / bother to use. My 2 cents only, YMMV.

If you can, go with the dragon disciple. it goes extremely well with the blackguard additions. It gets really nasty when you use the blackguard's sneak attack and next round the dragon disciple's breath weapon.

the only draw-back is the casting of the arcane spells...

Thanks for the help, guys... I got the Book of VD (sounds like something different than it is when I write it like that) on order from Amazon and it's on it's way. Dragon disciple isn't a bad idea either, though... I got some thinkin to do.

why not just continue being a paladin?
