The 2007 Holliday Ps3

So, the main thing is the BC with ps2, right?

Peter: The 40 gigabyte from a backwards compatibility perspective -- it'll play PS One games but we've basically removed the PS2 backwards compatibility. As I said earlier, we're looking to cost reduce the unit so everything's on the table. The research that we have, consumers like backwards compatibility. It's nice to have, but also we know it's not their primary purchase consideration; and price is a more important consideration than PS2 backwards compatibility. So, I think our position on our commitment to the PS2 gamers is such that we've been supporting the PS2 consumer and will continue to support the PS2 as a platform for ten full years. We're in the eighth year. There's 160 games coming out for PS2. So, if you're into PS2 games, we're right there with you, and there's a $129 unit that'll play them very, very well called the PS2.

Again, the ability to get the PS3 down to $399 was kind of the overarching factor there, and I think that stands in contrast to our competition where when they launched - -well, actually before they launched the 360 -- they just cut off the Xbox sales completely. Stopped making software for it. They stopped shipping the hardware. If you bought an Xbox, you're out of luck. That's not the case with the PlayStation 2. Like I said, there's a ten-year product commitment. We're still making great games for PS2, there's 160 PlayStation 2 games coming out this year, and you've got several years left in that system. We really think it's still a very exciting time to be a gamer no matter what platform you've got.

So, again, if you want to take advantage of your library on PS2 games -- the folks who are going to be jumping on the PS3, many, many of these folks are obviously big PlayStation enthusiasts and they already have a PlayStation 2. If you don't have one yet, then you don't have a library to be concerned about. That's kind of why this argument is a little bit -- I don't want to say it's a moot point -- but the people who have PS2 libraries have PS2s.

Now on $399, With Spiderman3 (i would prefer a game bundle here...) ,only 2 USB ports (you still can use an USB hub to add more) no BC, Still has WiFi, still has free online play, Dosent have Memory card slots, but has a 40gb Hardrive

It still comes with the Sixaxis, but you will be able to buy Extra Dualshock controllers next year...

New games are rising... Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, John Woo Presents Stranglehold, Army of Two, Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed ProStreet, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Rock Band, Haze, The Orange Box, Medal of Honor: Airborne, WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 and Clive Barker's Jericho ... all due before X-Mas

Maybe this is a good time to make the jump back to sony...? It took them almost one year to leap in and offer something that's actually considerable...

Im still debating over the 360 and PS3, but most of the 360s best stuff is, or will be on PC. It all comes down to if MGS4 stays exclusive, but im leaning PS3 right now. I want one with PS2 BC though, Guilty Gear looks amazing on my friends PS3.

Well, I was in the same boat, 'cept I opted to jump into it. I took advantage of the Gamestop/EBGames trade-in deal, and got myself a 60GB PS3. The 60GB model has the EE chip that makes it nearly 100% compatible with the old PS2.

Getting a big tenure bonus at work helped make my decision for me, of course.

Still, I look at PS3 exclusives, versus the 360's, and I see a distinct difference. And while the titles are a bit slim for the PS3, I remember the PS2 was the same way prior to MGS2 coming out.

God of War 3, the Ratchet & Clank game, Drake's Fortune & of course Metal Gear Solid 3 are all good reasons to consider the PS3. Heavenly Sword is a decent title as well.

Personally, I was never all that impressed with the line-up that the X-Box was able to attract, and the 360 hasn't looked too much better ('cept maybe Gears of War, and that's going to the PC). I didn't care for my Gamecube, and the Wii's weird controller just doesn't look good to me, and reminds me too much of how much I hated the N64 controller. So while the PS3's price is certainly daunting, I didn't feel I had any other option.

Yeah. GoW and Mass Effect are the only games I need to have, and both will be on PC evntually. Im probably gonna go for PS3. The only game I really need is Guilty Gear 2 Overture, but I dont nthink it'll stax 360 exclusive, since the series doenst sell all that well.

Also, you better get Haze, its done by the Timesplitters/Goldeneye/Perfect Dark guys. Gonna be pimpin.

I have a fully loaded PS3 (won it in a competition at the launch date) and really this no PS2 BC on the cut down version? That dog won't fly monsigneur.
If it cut out the PS1 BC, fine, not an issue. But I'd like to play my FFX through HDMI and use a wireless pad thanks.
I am looking forward to Haze. I'm also downloading the demo for Gundam - Dynasty Warriors style and have got to say, Warhawk really allows you to enact that classic Top Gun move where you let them get close then "put on the brakes and they'll fly right by".
On the whole 360/PS3 thing. I...enjoyed GoW but felt really annoyed by the deliberate sequel ending. I was immensely disappointed with Halo 3. Sure it's pretty but that was not the ending I felt the story deserved. At all. And I religiously followed that plot since 1 and the books. And yes, it all seems to end up PC side in the end so PS3? That's where I'm staying.
Additionally, of the 12 people I know with 360s, they've all had to be replaced. 5 of them, a second replacement.
I'm going to be interested to see performance of Stranglehold on PS3 though. Should run pretty smooth and it has Hard Boiled on the same disk.

Lord of Joshelplex 10-19-2007 09:22 AM

Well, ive decided PS3 for sure now, simply becasue Disgaea 3 and MGS4 are to damn tempting. RVB, I shall see you oin the fields of battle, fighting the good fight in both Warhawk and Haze (also, we should get a 4P co-op session together at some point) I do want to know, has anyone played Lair? Ive heard it sucked badly, but I know a few people who say its awesome too, so Im not sure waht to make of it.

Also, HD Hard Boiled = Win

Sky Warrior Bob is a crazy person, the Wiimote is made of love.

That is all. Citizens, return to your homes.

$399?!
The exact same thing here will be £300(I think so anyway, I'm not 100% sure), or about $610
I know transport costs are more and everything, but that price difference is beyond a joke.

And the 60GB version (the only one released here originally) was £425, which would be $864.25

Donomni 10-19-2007 02:52 PM

I really need to save up money for the original 60 GB PS3, because that's the only one that I can play FFXI on, the no EE chip 80 GB doesn't support it yet.
