The Myst Series

Well, I recently replayed the entire series of Myst games. Even using guides, these games are hard.

Given 1,000 monkeys with computers and an infinite amount of time, they would, EVENTUALLY beat the game Myst. However, this would occur many thousands of years after our sun has burned out all its gas and become a lifeless ball of condensed molecular structures.

However, I remain convinced that even a million monkeys given infinite time, three parallel universes to consult with, and a cowboy hat, would NEVER be able to solve Riven.

Myst III would take 100 monkeys about 800,000 years, and Myst IV would take 5 monkeys about 8 months

Myst 1 was fairly easy. That or it could be my imagination messing with me, as I've beat it so many times it's become rote. I never had the chance to play the others, though.

Did you ever play the updated version of Myst? The one where it was like perfect 360 views at any angle and had an additional book?

Oh man, I never even got to Riven. After Myst, I had red pages, blue pages, and 'The Yellow book', which held a compilation of every snippet of info for every stage of the game. Diagrams and stuff too. What a handy book my mum made. It expanded to be an excellent cheat source for all my time wasters.

It took my mum, me, my brother, and two of my friends to finally beat that game. And the caged room with the electric chair thing still creeps me out, though not as much as the alarm that goes off from that compass thing on the ship level.

That is one of the most annoying puzzles in the game.

If you never played Riven you are missing out.
It is incredible. You have to decode an entire alien mathematical system which works on a base 25.

I think my soul just threw up. Whether it was from joy or sheer panic is anyone's guess.

Oh man, I was on a Myst Frenzy as well, except earlier this year.

It reminded me how beautiful Riven is,

how FUCKINGRIDICULOUSLYHARD Exile is,

and how important it is to always pick the Blue book (screw you Red Book lovers).

I even played Myst Online for a while. Surprisingly rad. It's the MMOPuzzle!

I don't blame you. Your first exposure to the mathematics system comes from a children's educational toy in a school building. Basically its a little gallows where the man hangs higher the higher number you get to. It's actually pretty creepy.

I never beat Myst because I couldn't solve the piano puzzle in the rocket ship. Even if you cheat and use a guide it's impossible.

I did beat Riven though. I had to use a guide because my computer would spazz out any time I played with the toy in the classroom that you're supposed to use to learn the D'Ni numbers. But apart from the numbers I didn't need a guide, just months of anguish and unnumbered tears, which is pretty awesome.

I also read the first three Myst novels and loved 'em.

Oh thank god, I thought I had like a retarded ear or something. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
