Isn't it Irohnic? No, it's yet another Avatar Thread! (US-Aired Episode Spoilers!)

The puns grow progressively more awful!

Like the tagline says, feel free to openly discuss anything that's been actually aired in the United States, but you fuckers watching four episodes ahead by I don't want to know what means, keep that shit tagged.

RE: this last episode, mostly I ended up thinking it was just too short for the subject matter. Like they almost should have just made it 45 minutes, or just a 2-part episode or something, to cover all the stuff they had to cover. Like Sozin's turn to evil sort of just... happened, one minute he's a good guy, one minute he's like "fuck it, gonna conquer the world."

I think Sozin did have good intentions in the beginning, as he saw that the Fire Nation was prosperous and thought it was his duty to share that to the less civilised countries (White Man's Burden, anyone?). What I thought happened was that he was corrupted in the throne after awhile, as dictators tend to do around the world.

Well yeah but I mean right from the get go he was like "let us share our prosperity... by crushing them beneath our iron bootheel!" Like you can totally share your prosperity by I don't know, negotiating trade agreements and exchanging scholars and diplomats and shit like that, but no, Sozin just wanted to conquer some motherfuckers.

Mesden, Roku mastered the Avatar State.
This is a fact of the Avatar world. You can't get more "talented with the Avatar State" than that.

On a side note, all that pressure and upheavel being caused by the volcano would have to go somewhere, wouldn't it? So he couldn't exactly go Avatar State and then put a cork in the top of the volcano. Wouldn't it result in the lava having to come out, by force, somewhere else? Or with even more force right there?

Roku would've been fine if he'd been able to breathe. Not being able to breathe makes it kind of impossible to do things like control fire, when control of fire comes "From the breath".

Also, umm... Am I the only one who noticed that the dragons ( like the ones Sozin and Roku used ) are apparently extremely rare or extinct in present-day Avatar world? Appa and Momo are also the last of their species, apparently. So, out of the animals that "teached" bending, only badger-moles exist. Also, we need a pun with "Zuko" and "Toph", because they'd be really, really awful.

ArlanKels 10-27-2007 01:09 PM

The sun taught firebending.

I'm surprised nobody noticed how the dragons were set up.

Remember the dream Zuko had with two dragons?
Avatar Roku's dragon was red, the same as Uncle.
Firelord Sozin's dragon was blue, the same as Azula.

My theory on the rest of this season.

Due to the rapid approach of the Invasion and Eclipse with lack of proper set up (Every episode have been mostly one shot stories), this initial invasion will fail. Eclipse will not work, or not last long enough, and Gaang is screwed. Iroh will save the day, and they escape. Enter White Lotus society and Aang firebending via Iroh. This leads to better invasion, as seen from Book 3 trailers.

Ryong 10-27-2007 01:14 PM

I'm pretty sure the dragons helped. But, the thing is, they are either very rare or extinct, now.

ArlanKels 10-27-2007 01:15 PM

You know what I'm expecting?

For Azula to kill Iroh.
There. I said it.
I think that they're alluding to that with the dragon thing. That'll be the final straw for Zuko, mind you, and he'll be a good guy and show Aang the ropes, having finally come to grips with that which was bothering him(how he turned on uncle and went the path of the dark side).
