An Open Letter to Brian Clevinger

Doing this will spoil the surprise - but I'm sure Creamsteak's figured it out anyway so in one last attempt to get ahold of Brian I'll post this letter openly.

Hello. My name is Michael Morris and I've been reading your 8-bit theatre comic for about 6 months now and I must say I'm quite impressed and entertained. Ok, enough of brown-nosing, I'll cut to the chase :)

I'm the director of the ENNies ceremony at Gencon (y'know, that huge mega gaming con in Indianapolis each year). I'm looking for a Master of Ceremonies since ENWorld's producer and founder, Russ Morrissey, likes public speaking about as much as having his tonsils removed with a meat cleaver. I talked him into considering you for the position provided public speaking is something you do well - if you're half as funny on a stage as your comic is then you'll do just fine.

A little background here - The ENnies are an annual award voted on by RPG fans to decide the best RPG products that year in some 25 categories. This year will be our third live presentation at Gencon.

As Master of Ceremonies you'd open up the show and introduce each award presenter, which included such individuals in the past as Ryan Dancey and Monte Cook. Basically - what Billy Crystal & Whoopi Goldberg does at the Oscars.

For your efforts you'd receive free hotel and admission to the convention - though you'd still need to be able to pay for transportation (If that's a problem I'd be willing to personally help out).

If you accept I'd also like to do a sort of 8-bit theatre theme to the show. We use Macromedia Flash to present the nominees and the awards. It would be fun to let Black Mage present the award for best magic supplement up on the screen, and maybe some other touches as well.

Either way, please get back to me as soon as possible. We're still in the early planning stages of the show and staff is being assembled through mid-March. I'd like to have all personell lined up by that time.

For more information on the ENnies is here...

http://www.enworld.org/modules.php?o...ticles&secid=1

You can find last year's winner and last year's show was video taped and can be reviewed.

Well, that's all. Good luck with the comic. I look forward to finding out what happens to the lich.

People sure like Brian.

Infact, Monty Python even made a movie about his life...

XwipeoutX 03-11-2004 11:53 PM

lol@ wetflame. i think you may be thinking of another brian...

RedMage 03-12-2004 04:39 AM

If brian won't do it, I will

Krylo 03-12-2004 04:44 AM

BTW, Michael, RedMage here is Sosa, the guy who writes the 'Twinkin' Out With RedMage' column on the webpage. So he's THE Red Mage Just so you don't read that and think "Who the hell is this guy?" Seeming as he forgot to mention that himself...

CorwinHavens 03-12-2004 04:50 AM

Of course Sosa would...

It's a free trip to GenCon. GEEK!!!

Yeah, I'm jealous. You see, I'm getting married this summertime. So, I can't make it to GenCon....lousy marriage and me getting all the sex I can.....

Oh wait. Life doesn't seem that bad after all

Wetflame 03-12-2004 09:11 AM

No, no, I'm pretty sure they meant to be about our Brian. In a past life. Or something.

Meddros 03-12-2004 09:51 AM

And if Brian or Sosa fail to make it I would be more then happy to fill in. All though I'm not nearly as witty and only about a third of the people even know who I am.
But even still I have the 3 C's. I'm still cute, cuddly and charming! :) Well, ok I am clever, cunning and Charming. So one C out of three ain't Bad.

Creamsteak 03-12-2004 12:08 PM

Honestly, this isn't what I expected. I was expecting an invite for Brian to the Con to do what he does, but not a invite to host the ennies. Will he want to do it? Will Sosa be able to tag along?

Tune in next time to find out!!

RedMage 03-12-2004 02:15 PM

"tag along" I'm an event all on my own! The Sosa experience!

Smashlink 03-12-2004 02:35 PM

I know who you are, Meddros...You're the flash guy, right?

Creamsteak 03-12-2004 02:36 PM

Sure you are. Now, the question is, can I convince you to come to a pick up game? DnD 3.5. I'll GM. This is of course, is if you can make it to the convention.

Yes, I am the current flash guy. I am the person behind the person behind the program who leeches off others glory. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to turn your request into a unexpected mass posting.

... am I the only one who thinks a marching band of red mages playing tunes like "El Capitan" and "Rufus' Wedding March" when I think of Sosa the Red Mage?

Melfice 03-12-2004 02:58 PM

I don't know the "El Capitan"-tune but I can picture a marching band of Red Mages with Sosa in the lead.

Wetflame 03-12-2004 05:58 PM

XD @ Sosa.

DnD 3.5 = evil money making scheme, use 3.0

What exactly is a con?(sorry, I'm new to being a geek.) I know it's a convention, but is it an invitational thing, like E3?

So your the Flash Guy for NuklearPower.com?

Krylo 03-12-2004 06:59 PM

Meddros did all the ____ vrs _____ 8-bit theater flashes. I'm not sure what other flashes he's done, and which Flashmasta Frank have done... but Meddros did most of them.

Actually, come to think of it, I don't know if Flashmasta Frank still does anything... I haven't checked out the flashes for awhile.

Klyco 03-12-2004 07:02 PM

Sorry for going off topic, but Meddros, are you working on any other Flash Vids?

It's both the home to some of the most repulsive geeks imaginable, and to some of the most fun gaming you can have. Some cons have more of one than the other.

Meddros 03-12-2004 08:27 PM

A brief side track to better understand what a CON is.

Con - (adv) In opposition or disagreement; against: debated the issue pro and con.
(slang) To swindle (a victim) by first winning his or her confidence; dupe.
or (slang) MASS INSANITY AND FUN ALL ROLED INTO ONE BIG CONVENTION CENTER!
Allthough there are lots of PROs to going to a CON I can't think of any CONs for not going (other then geographical location). Also there are usually as many CONs at the CON as there are Law Infocement but who am I to point fingers at known fellons for enjoying themselves.
Just imagine a large hall (and mean really really really large) full of tables and boths as far as the eye can see. And what ever didn't fit into that main hall is crammed into many different conferance rooms of the Center (and there are hundreds of those as well).
You will see and enjoy many people (geeks) such as yourself running around in costumes and some not (which is just wrong on many levels) acting out parts they have been saying for the last 2 years as if they were that character. Some are pretty good too.
It is a boat load of fun to goto any CON whether it's gaming, Comics or Even Comics/Gaming. I have never been to any others. :)

Now to answer Klyco's question. YES.

slightly aboveaverage man 03-12-2004 08:39 PM

Meddros, I'd just like to say thank you... your excellent flash work has kept us constantly entertained and it's about time your genius is acknowledged.

*Shakes hand*

Wetflame 03-12-2004 09:23 PM

You should get Thief to go, he's always been a good Con-man.

Wait, did I already say that?
