Movember is upon us!

As a reminder to NPF, Movember starts tomorrow.

What is Movember you ask?
Well every November it involves the menfolk downing razors and growing moustaches for November. It is especially relevant where I am as it is used as a campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer but it is also good for bringing back raw rugged masculinity in a crusade against metrosexuals and emos.

Last year I got told off for starting Movember with a gigantic beard and moustache I'd been cultivating for about a year but I've just picked up tools and shaved off my beard and mo in preparation.

Photos of my progress should come hopefully.
And all should join in the glory of Movember!

I will be honest, I have never heard of this before.

How did it all get started? And when was it tied into prostate cancer awareness?

Lord of Joshelplex 10-30-2007 10:23 PM

Screw staches, goatees where it at yo.

Flarecobra 10-30-2007 10:23 PM

I too have never heard of this.

And it'll never fly in the military community. What with the "Gotta be clean-shaven" rule in effect.

bananarama 10-30-2007 10:29 PM

Never heard of this either. Also it's a pity that I have a weak mustache, but I do have crazy fast-growing sideburns will that count? Now that I have heard about this, I must help and support this manly cause of manliness (MANLY!!!)!

Aw man... I speak only for myself, but I am a red-blooded female, and I hate facial hair. I make an exception for the goatee, but only on a limited basis. Mere mortals should not attempt the goatee.

The thought of all guys sprouting barbs on their faces makes me cry a little, but if it helps eradicate prostate cancer, then I guess we all have to make sacrifices.

Hmmm, I guess it may just be a New Zealand thing. I assumed it was worldwide.
But it did exist before it got linked to prostate cancer but our local cancer society now advertises it and holds lots of events and parades and things.
I really should be wider. Especially as it is just a good chance to wear a rocking 'stache.

That's one of the good things. We GF loves my facial hair but lots of my friends have GF's who hate them but Movember means thier GF are willing to sacrifice for a month and everyone can join me in facial hair madness.

Man, I'd so totally do this! Except I like, don't get much facial hair. I think it would be like that episode of that 70's show where Kelso tries to grow a beard.

... Because it hasn't been directly addressed, I think I'll state it plainly that: Movember is* where you don't shave, at all, throughout the month of November. I don't know why it started. Also, I don't know why there's an "M" in place of the "N". Crazy New Zealanders.

*Or what I've learned it is, I only heard of this about 2 weeks ago. I am not an expert. Nope.

Also, I'm joining the hair growing group. I wonder what will happen...?
