Rock Band, AKA "We Stopped Making Guitar Hero 3 and Here's Why."

Kat got a copy today, and so far it's nothing but awesome.

The game is less about "Hey let's see if we can beat this crazy song Jordan/Six/Through Fire and Flames/Devil Went Down To Georgia/Raining Blood" and it's more about "Sing/drum/guitar yourself for fun and then invite friends over and have a party."

Well then I'm fucked, as I can do none of the above. Shout at the devil on easy is my limit. :sweatdrop *hangs head and sighs*

This game kills Guitar Hero III, and makes me like Guitar Hero 2 that much more too.

Really, the notecharts in III aren't even realistic or anything. Compare Paranoid as Harmonix does it to Paranoid as Activision does it, and Harmonix's version is cleaner, more fun, and doesn't have stupid three-note chords that don't make sense. (which are all over Guitar Hero III).

Also the create-a-band and the character stuff is all totally awesome. While watching my friends make their dudes, I saw the hairstyles for EVERYONE IN DETHKLOK and I nearly wet myself. I almost demanded they make a Dethklok homage band, but they didn't :(. It'd be SO AWESOME...

"DO YOU FOLKS LIKE COFFEE!??"

Anyway, it's hard to sing songs you don't know, so that kind of sucked. I got hooked on hte singing position since none of the guys really wanted to sing, even though I'm better at guitar than one of them.

I like singing but honestly I'm getting tired of the whole "Your voice in your ears sounds different" thing. I'm probably going to turn off the singer's voice and try it then, and listen to the TV's output.

I want to know what kind of support there is for the bassman.
Cause I play a bass normally but guitar games that have bass support often just relegate us to simplified guitar work and thus destroy the mastery that is bass.

I want KISS DLC.
It'll be hilarious singing along to "I was made for loving you". XD

Also, you people suck. We Euro-people need to wait until Q1 2008 before we can play. T_T

EDIT: Oh, right!
Do you have to sing the words, or would humming along in the right key do just fine?

Zilla 11-22-2007 01:50 PM

It's just like Guitar Hero for the bass, HOWEVER, they make up for the less complex things by letting the bass player get a X6 multiplier and unlock a "bass groove" which really benefits the performance.

It SEEMS like humming along in the same pitch works. It still is really hard to do with songs you don't know T_T

Melfice 11-22-2007 02:23 PM

Yeah, I can imagine that it would be hard regardless.
Also, how does this Bass Groove work?

What does it do?

Mirai Gen 11-22-2007 02:51 PM

Basically everyone but the bassist can only get a X4 multiplier. The bassist can get the bass groove and get the X6 multiplier making everyone else's points skyrocket.

So bass is really really important.

They had me at "Metallica Pack".

Seriously, Ride the Lightning, ...And Justice for All, and Blackened? Brilliant.
