PS3: 80 Gig or 40 Gig?
So, this weekend, Im headin down to Fargo for a weekend of shopping and fast food delights, and I intend to get a PS3 while I am there. I cant decide between the 40 and 80 model though. I could sell my PS2, multitap and 4 controllers, 2 memory cards and get the 80, but my multitap and controllers are only 6 months old, and cost me $100, but on the flip side, if I keep them, I can get a much cheaper model, but it wont come with a game or an extra controller. Waht sounds smartest, and how much do you think I can get for trading in a PS2 (slimline model) 4 Sony brand controllers, 2 Sony memory cards and a Sony multitap? Will that net me at least $100 in credit?

40 GB has no backward compatibility while 80 has some.... IMO, I'd get the 80 because it comes with Motorstorm (great game!) as well. I don't know how much you can get from trade-in though.

Just remember the 40 gig comes with less usb ports, where as the 80 has more but again the backwards compatibility issue. As far as trade in, keep in mind any sports titles are deemed invaluable. The slim I think goes for 20, the controllers are roughly... 10-15 bucks and your multi tap isn't much either...the memory cards your looking at maybe 5 bucks. I can do a quick look up in the store at work tonight if you like.

It all depends on how much credit you give to backwards compatability (did anyone ever really spend that much time playing ps1 games on the ps2?), and whether you REALLY want six usbs (who the fuck uses six usbs at the same time?!!).
If you don't really care about old games (especially seeing as a lot of them don't even work on ps3 anyway) and you don't ever see yourself needing 3 or more usbs then just go for the 40GB. 40GB is more than enough for saving a crap load of stuff, and if you ever do need more then just buy a bigger hardrive. |
Ohm I intend to keep all my PS2 games. If I get the 80 giger, Im gonna sell my PS2 and all... um periferals? Peripherals?

Can't Sony just make a really really crappy PS3 and sell it for like $100 so I can just play some games? Pretty please?
Did they solve the PS3 backwards compatibility issues, Joshelplex? If not you might not want to get rid of your PS2 so quickly... |
I would tell you to get a Wii, but since that's irrelevant...
Do buy the 40 Gig one. I seriously doubt you're going to need all that extra memory in quite a long time. However, since it seems that you want to keep your PS2 discs, I think the best thing you could do is buy the 80 Gig version and fast for the next two months. |
Oh, I can afford it. I dont need the extra money from the trade in, but If I do get the more exspensive model so I can play my PS2 games, I want to at least make back all the money I just spent on controllers. 2 Controllers and a multitap is like $100. I could get a Wii, and have money left over to pimp out my PC, except I dont want a Wii, and my PC is pimped enough, All I could really do to it is get a slightly better card.

I think you should wait until next holiday season for the gen 2 PS3 model that will invariably come out and be far cooler than any you could get now and at a much better price. That is my plan at least.

Yea, except I want one now, cause Im going to the US, so I will be paying US price with Canadian money. PS3s are $100 more over here, and the exchange gives me more money after I invade your country.
