New strings.

I just got new strings for my guitar. My high E-string snapped, so I had to replace them. They were due for replacement anyway.

Still, ever the utilitarian, I can't bear to part with the strings that make good noise just yet, so I'm giving them one last workout with songs I know that don't require the high E (Monkey Wrench, Deththeme from Metalocalypse, Thunderstruck, the list goes on).

While I'm doing that, what song shall grace my virgin strings? What should I break them in with?

Metallica, One. Well, that if you will have someone decent to sing as well... I loves me some Metallica.

Wait, are we talking acoustic or electric?

Zilla 12-01-2007 07:44 PM

electric, by the way.

Demetrius 12-01-2007 07:52 PM

Mmmmmmetallicaaaaah...

Also marry me.

Free Bird!

...I'm joking, for the love of god, I'm joking! Put down the knives!

In all seriousness, I can quite easily second the Metallica recommendation, as well as putting in some Police and The Clash.

Blackbird

That is quite fun song.

Either that or Wind of Change.

I saved my strings when I broke them for the first time too (I played them until they snapped. XD heheh. It actually broke my guitar too... I had to get it fixed before I could play it again). I think I broke the new ones in with Wind of Change. Or possibly .45

Freebird! (This message killed by They Who Have Sense)

Or One, as Demetrius suggested.

Maybe some Allman Brothers, if you're looking for something softer?

If you're feeling really hardcore, how about trying Jordan or Through The Fire And Flames?

EDIT: Also, I personally like John the Fisherman, but I mostly play bass, so what do I know?

EDIT2: How about 4′33″ as rendered in guitar?

PLAY SUM CREDENCE!

Zilla 12-01-2007 08:08 PM

Seriously, I was considering Freebird. I like that song, and I know most of the non-solo part.

I'll probably end up looking up tabs for whatever it happens to be.

And Winds of Change is great but I'd probably end up playing No One Like You first, as that's my absolute favorite Scorpions tune.

One is nice and epic and long.

Jessica is another one I was really considering. I do know how to play it (probably one of the more advanced ones that I know how to play all of).

Jordan? TTFAF? I am not a rock goddess or anything.... yet.

CCR? I don't really know their stuff very well...

Anything Beatles.

That's what I'd play on my strat under similar circumstances, anyway. :sweatdrop
