You aren't alone it the 56k hating section. Everyone I know has better net connections than me. I think I'm the only one in my area with a dial-up connection.

Krylo 03-14-2004 09:35 PM

I'm on a cable modem here and things are still moving slow. I think it might be something wrong at the company, because it's slow everywhere... either that or I need to go get something to clean away spy/adware...

Darth SS 03-14-2004 09:37 PM

Woah. I leave, and a whole new thread gets made. Trippy.

Whoever used an Eldar Warlock for their summon? You kick ass man.

Oh, and for anyone that was in Nature's Axiom...my char is basically Kal...just as a lancer instead of that weird swordmaster/knight thing.

Squishy Cheeks 03-14-2004 09:38 PM

is there still room in this?

IHateMakingNames 03-14-2004 09:39 PM

Well, we have 13, but Dante won't be around for two weeks much, and I am guessing Melfice and Demon will drop out soon after this starts (If not already)

Dante 03-14-2004 09:41 PM

Oh, and SS, he doesn't use a Warlock for his summon. His armor *is* the warlock's rune armor. Ph34r t3h wytchblade.

MC43 03-14-2004 09:42 PM

I have this bad feeling this is going to get out of hand REALLY fast...

Darth SS 03-14-2004 09:44 PM

Triple Strength on AP rolls....*drools*

Good thing I play Ulthwe Strike Force. Ever faced a twenty man Storm Squad with a Warlock with a Witchblade that just came running out of the Webway?

You'd be afraid too.

Eat Starcannon Cheese Army/Biel-Tan Scoprion Rape Army, biotch.

And let's leave it at that for 40k.

Darth SS 03-14-2004 09:50 PM

*CoughBloodAngelsTerminatorDeepStrikecough*

So, I think that's about it. Once Jad signs-up, I'd say we're good to go.

Psi_Zeta 03-14-2004 09:52 PM

Too late to join up? Just curious.

Squishy Cheeks 03-14-2004 09:54 PM

What classes are used by the way?

IHateMakingNames 03-14-2004 09:55 PM

First page, third post.

Dante 03-14-2004 09:55 PM

Psi-Zeta - I would think so.

In any case, the bio and revised chracter goes up tomorrow. Is bahamut already taken, or should I just pull something out of my ass?

Krylo 03-14-2004 09:57 PM

Bahamut was called by BM in the first post... I thought you were gonna go with Odin, anyway? Also, FZ decided to go golem instead of Alexander, so Alex is open too.

Squishy Cheeks 03-14-2004 09:57 PM

no I mean what is everybody, I don't want to be something that's taken.

Psi_Zeta 03-14-2004 09:58 PM

I thought so. Oh well didn't hurt to ask.

Why would I drop out? I've just been busy not being on the computer, enjoying fresh air, and driving aroud town doing stuff on my days off.

And, of course, interacting with flesh and blood girls in less pathetic ways than making crude innuendo about whips and kitty kat tails. (Zing!)

That's all. I'm still in.

Dante 03-15-2004 12:48 AM

I am vaguely tempted to comment.

Will Save : 4 + 16 - Passed

The temptation has been resisted.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-15-2004 01:13 AM

You forgot my inate disadvantage 'Smartasses' Curse' which give you -2 to resistance to ignore all Demon's smartass comments, Dante.

Sorry, looks like you failed your resistance check. You are compeled to respond. Those are the rules.

Truce 03-15-2004 01:20 AM

Anyway, does anyone want to group with anyone before the RP? Hadoken said he's open to ideas, and I can already see a few.

1) Chocobo Knight and Two Dragoons - Hadoken mentioned this already.

2) Paladin and the Monk - Sorta the same ideals...sorta.

3) Dark Knight and Blue Mage Half Demon - Just because I can imagine them arguing who was the bigger bad-ass.

Dante 03-15-2004 01:24 AM

Oh.

Hmm... Beginning wrathful castigation... not.

While groping them and whispering lewd obscenities in their ears may be more concrete... it is hardly less pathetic.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-15-2004 01:30 AM

Watching the girl next door undress with high powered binoculars doesn't constitute 'Interacting,' Demon. (Zing!)

That would have been a better response, I think.

I personally agree with the groupings idea. Makes things less difficult or messy later.

Dante 03-15-2004 01:36 AM

I concede the point, oh baron of belittlement. My toenails cringe in terror.

And the groupings thing is a carryover from an old forum where we would ritually tear an idiot's post to pieces by critiquing every idiotic sentence he wrote. Not that you're an idiot, but... old habits die hard.

Perhaps I am an idiot, afterall. How do you mean that 'groupings' is a carry over and that idiots will be ritualistically critiqued?

I was refering to the grouping of characters in this Rp, such as the Dragoons and myself.

Krylo 03-15-2004 01:54 AM

Quote:

3) Dark Knight and Blue Mage Half Demon - Just because I can imagine them arguing who was the bigger bad-ass.
Well... as that Darilk hates demons... and blue mage half demon is... half demon, I think there'd be a greater chance of surviveability of both characters if he grouped up with ANYONE else. He works as a merc to earn his bread-money, though... so if someone who doesn't have demon blood wanted to hire him, that'd work. But if he was grouped with IHMNs character at the beginning... which would mean them being alone... it wouldn't be bickering about whose the biggest badass. One of them would have the others entrails.

And before the pissing contest even begins, I refuse to comment on who would kick whose ass, so IHMN can just say that it'd be Darilk's entrails, and I won't reply... unlike the Jormungand vrs Vlad arguements.

Dante 03-15-2004 01:55 AM

I thought you meant "groupings" as in (post)<->(wrathful castigation) and so on. The forum I went to was rather fond of that, to pick out inconsistencies idiots tried to hide in masses of text. And the ritual critique refers to the convocation of many veterans, who would then proceed to mock the poor sod's grammar skills, lack of technical knowledge, and general worthlessness, among others. This critiquing also involved comparing him unfavorable to various farm animals and their byproducts, etc.

But yes, the grouping of characters is handy. And no, I'm the idiot for misinterpreting your statement. Old AND dumb, it would seem...

Forever Zero 03-15-2004 02:00 AM

Hmm, dunno who Dezil will group with. He is somewhat eccentric, so maybe he will travel alone.

Demon with a Glass Hand 03-15-2004 02:05 AM

Old?!

You're only twenty! I'm only Twenty-Two this year!

If that makes you old, then I'm ancient in comparison.

Back to the focus at hand though, 'Half-Demon' seems like it's going to be a little disruptive. Potentially. Perhaps we could substitute 'Demon' for something more mundane that all the races might unexpectedly breed with. Like Imps. Or Nymphs?

Of course if your Dad did it with a Nymph he would turn into a tree. So really, you would be playing a half human, half leaf. That doesn't sound like much fun. Less disruptive, but not fun.

Dante 03-15-2004 02:27 AM

I doubt anyone's father would survive a close encounter with a nereid.

Only disruptive between Darilk and him... and if you're going to go that route, better not have that paladin either. Darilk wouldn't attack anyone if they were both needed alive, unless he was attacked first. Half-demon only invokes half the hatred... and Darilk is honorable... and not that stupid.

Quote:

What if your father is a white mage with the breathe water spell?

Truce 03-15-2004 02:59 AM

I never said the pairing of Darilk and Tusah was logical. I thought it would be funny, really. Besides, Tusah seems to hide that he's half demon.

Anyway, FZ, would you like Dezil to join Ripel in his quest for money? I mean, those tools that Dezil has must be useful for something that Ripel could wish done, like find treasure of some sort, and Ripel likes treasure. I wouldn't put it past him to try and convince (trick) someone to join him.

Kinky. Perhaps I should play a WM after all... nah. Oh, and I hope you don't mind the copyright infringement.

Name: Lucien Soulban

Age: For me to know, for you to find out.

Race: Half-man, half-woman.

Blood type: O+

Class: Paladin

Weapon and Equipment: Suit of rune armor, the sword Sol Invictus and a bow slung behind him. He also carries a small amulet with him, though its purpose is unknown. When not girded for battle, his helmet is safely hidden in an extradimensional pocket, and he wears a long, concealing grey shroud over his armor and vestments.

Appearance: In his armor, see the Eldar warlock picture. Precisely the same thing applies. Outside of the armor, however, he has dark skin and stark white hair, as well as blue eyes that shine with determination. He carries himself with a confident ease which never quite reaches arrogance, and there is almost always a gentle smile on his face.

Summon: Phoenix, the legendary avian of death and rebirth, and a symbol of the unquenchable hope in destruction Lucien wants to bring to the world.

Bio: Much like Darlik, Lucien's family was slain in a demonic attack. Skipping all the horrific details of pain and blood, Lucien was recovered from the alcove where his sisters had hidden him by a team of paladins, who took him back to their order to "be raised right." However, it wa soon apparent that he was rather resistant to the instruction. Where the other initiates sought righetousness, Lucien only wanted vengeance. To complicate matters, unlike Darlik, whose hatred had inverted his inner spark into a black exaltation of sorts, Lucien's angst and sorrow prevented him from even touching it at all. Despondent, hating his weakness and his inability to learn the holy magics, he applied himself assiduously to the only thing he could believe in - the way of the sword. Of course, this fanatical devotion only served to alienate him from his fellow initiates, and it was soon whispered that he was as terrible as the demons he wanted to kill so badly. Eventually, a senior knight named Yurgen Kaneko took him as a journeyman apprentice, and as Lucien followed Yurgen away from the keep, there was a collective sigh of relief from them.

As Lucien travelled with Yurgen, however he realized that what he went through was by no means the worst of the horrors the demons had wreaked upon Gramza. And the lesson he learned during the long journeys was simply this; "Yours is not the only tragedy in the world." Gradually, this banked the flames of hatred in his heart and softened the wall of anger he had built around his soul... but the guilt of the survivor still haunted him, and it comprised a mental block against invoking the power of light.

It was only when Yurgen fell trying to fend off a demonic attack on a village that he finally foudn a way to let go. Dying, Yurgen whispered the only verse Lucien would ever preach.

"I may only be one, but I am one.
I may not be able to do everything, but I can do something.
And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."

Saying so, Yurgen breathed his last, and as he did, Lucien felt the warm glow of the light that he had sought so desperately envelop him. He may not have received true enlightenment, but at least, he had found some small measure of peace. After burying the remains of his master, Lucien took up his sword, the Sol Invictus, and decided to walk a world of anguish on a quest to bring hope to those oppressed by darkness.

Since then, Lucien has seen much, and done much. But he has remained true to his purpose - to defend the masses and help the wayward find their true path, much like what Yurgen did. He entertains no illusions that he can save or aid everyone in the world. But he knows that with the power of the Light on his side, he can at least make sure that the ones around him are protected, and that he can repulse evil wherever it rears its ugly head.

Okay, just curious and all, but when are we goin' to start rp-ing? Oh, and do I still have to write down my profile and stuff, or is it okay to let it be in the last sign-up for this rp? By the way, I life in in Europe, and I guess you all live in the US so expect some delay in posting from my side.

EDIT: Nevermind about the profile part, I found the text-file at the first page... I need to read more.

Well, Dezil is interested in magical artifacts and treasure, but only to buy new tools and materials for his inventions, so that could work out.

Demon - Basing off your leavingness from your disappearence after Shadowrun.

Dante - Half-man, half-women? Is that supposed to mean your guy is a hermaphrodite?

He's a super hero paladin hermaphrodite.

Squishy Cheeks 03-15-2004 03:50 PM

or he could be either a bearded lady, or a guy with man boobs.

Mr. Viewtiful 03-15-2004 03:54 PM

Dang, I look at the RP sign-up and think "I'll wait a couple days to join..." and it's at the second part!

So...question is...do you guys have room for me? I got a profile nearly ready as of now...

BMHadoken 03-15-2004 04:22 PM

You'd make 15, but I'm pretty sure people will drop out.

Concerning when to start...thats a toughie. I don't really wanna start it too soon this week, as its gunna be the week from hell for me (a book to color mark, an essay to write, 3 five page long assignments...and thats just English), and next week is Spring Break and up till Sunday I'm goin College driftin...but that'd be way too late, and n00bs might think they have a chance.

So, I'm willing to start it this week, but I'd probably try to have some posting restrictions...which prolly wouldn't be such a bad thing considering all the people we have, the ability to get lost in posts WILL happen...anybody know a good/fair way to have posting limited (e.g. No more than X posts per day, no later than X:XX...)?

And does anybody wanna call romantic interest for the NPC white mage? I know Raiden would do it anyway, just making sure that all of a sudden eight of you all develop romantic feelings for her/ maybe him...

Half-man, Half-woman...praying to god that was a typo...

Mr. Viewtiful 03-15-2004 04:28 PM

Typing up my profile...questions:

1) Could I be a Geomancer? They do stuff like manipulate nature/terrain/stuff whilst using lots of medetation, etc.

2) If the answer to the above question is 'yes,' may I use that Tree-totema thing from FT:A as his 'signature summon?'

3) Would it be alright if my char is similar to my other FF:RP character? (Blyr, teh Geomancer).

4) Do I ask too many questions?

5) Mustard or mayo? I can't decide what to put on my sandwich...

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 04:33 PM

I shall take guesses on the answers BM will give

1) Probably no, seeing as there are only 30 mages in the world at a time, and 3 of those 30 are already in our group (A WM, a Oracle and a BM).

2) You can use any summon, but you do not summon it yourself.

3) Sure, but no geomancer.

4) Yes

5) Both suck.

Mr. Viewtiful 03-15-2004 04:36 PM

But geomancers aren't mages...at least in FFT they weren't. Also, in the other FFRP, they didn't count as mages (or magic), but you're right IHMN, BMHadoken might have different reasoning than Ecurt on this...

CelesJessa 03-15-2004 04:38 PM

Quote:

I thought it was only 30 Black mages are in the world at a time. I specifically remember him saying there can be any amount of white mages, but the Black mages are the one's who are limited.

As for mayo or mustard? Depends what kind of sandwich, obviously.

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 04:39 PM

He just says Mages, then says that doesn't include Blue Mages (Though that is a different thing all together).

Truce 03-15-2004 04:40 PM

I don't call romantic interest, but I call being the guy who ends up making things between the two of them just utter chaos. It's so fun to meddle in other people's interests.

As for the post limit thing...I don't know how it should go. Sounds good though, if things are going to be hectic for you.

Geomancers - Basically monks who do not call upon the power of themselves, but instead the surrounding enviroment.

PS - Mustard bad, mayo's the way to go.

Edit - There are only 30 Black Mages at one time. I'm assuming that doesn't include White Mages (because, as it is said earlier, that magic is based off the purity of the heart), and Blue Mages is an entirely different magic all together, that isn't really based off one's own soul.

PS - Geomancy, in FFT, was not Magic in terms of MP, though it was based off of your magical ability because that stat helps you in your geomancy ability. Of course, if it is considered magic I would believe it would be an offspring of the White variety, as it has no directly destructive powers. It is a manipulation of the enviroment, which we also have to take into account, and not truly based off one's own soul/spirit/etc. It would not matter if you were not a black mage or not to use it.

ps - Of course, I may be wrong and BMHadoken has a totally different view.

BMHadoken 03-15-2004 04:42 PM

Well, almost right...

1) There are already two mages, Me (all-around-BM) and Spirit (Oracle, status magic), White Magic comes from within, Blue Magic is different...EDIT: Hmm...good argument for Elementalist...I'll flip a coin, post what you want.

2) It was the one that wrapped everything in roots...or did it explode things...I remember lots of explosions whenever a Totema was used, just not how they exploded.

3) Sure

4) Not as much as teh n00bs

5) I don't really like condiments.

Hmm...you could be a thief, or mehbe a straight up Knight/Warrior...

TheSpiritOfVengance 03-15-2004 04:45 PM

Reading from earlier I see people are already "teaming up." If I may say I will gladly put my services to good use for anyone who wants me to travel with them... Translaion: I want to be on a team too and in a classic example two heads are better than one...
Sure I'll do the romantic thing I guess if no one else calls. And I may be new at this but for posting make the time 11:30 at the person who is most westward like lets say FZ lives in New York hes an hour ahead of me in Saint Louis whos two hours ahead of Veiwtiful in Denver but not as far ahead as CJ in LA. (just saying random locations...) but I dont know your guys sleeping habits so [edit] I dont care either way since I have insomnia...

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 04:45 PM

For my guy, will he have to be more magey in fights since he is technically a blue mage, or can he be a warrior since the blue magic really doesn't require much (That's how it sounded at least)?

Edit - I say screw posting limits. Either it will kill the RP, or people will ignore them anyway.

BMHadoken 03-15-2004 04:46 PM

Yeah, sure. Half-Demons are naturally warriors, some can just do Blue Magic...just don't go too overboard, or I'll have to forcibly shut your mouth down...

Truce 03-15-2004 04:48 PM

If I remember right, didn't Blue Mages have pretty good all around stats in FFTA? I'm pretty sure they'd be pretty okay fighters.

Anyway, I put up my argument in my edited post for Geomancy.

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 04:50 PM

I still fail to see the difference between elemental control (Basic black magic) and nature control/rock control (Geomancy).

Edit - If the arguement is Black Magic = Destruction, it depends on how you use it, which is the same for Geomancy.

Krylo 03-15-2004 04:50 PM

I would just like to add that Mustard is good with ham, Mayo is good with other lunch meats, and Cranberry Sauce is the way to go when eating turkey.

Mr. Viewtiful 03-15-2004 04:51 PM

Here...I got's me a character sheet for a geomancer somewheres...

Ah! here's the link:
The more warrior-like Final Fantasy Tactics-style. (What I'm shooting for)
And the magey-type Final Fantasy 5 style.

Of course, RPing it is a bit different...

EDIT: and due to differing opinions, I just ate a corndog. Thanks, tho :D

Truce 03-15-2004 04:56 PM

In Black Magic you generally "summon" up those elements while using those spells, and is usually used for the purpose of destruction, which is considered evil.

Geomancy is a manipulation of nature, which I cannot see as being either inherently evil nor good.

Edit - Damn typos.

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 04:57 PM

Use Ice to put out a fire that is killing orphanes. Use fire to give warmth to some orphanes in the winter. Use water to give orphanes water to drink. Use quake to undo potholes (The quake that shots earth up). Many more.

Black magic can be good, and is no more evil then geomancy says I.

BMHadoken 03-15-2004 05:00 PM

Ok, I'll allow Geomancy, but you'll have to be on solid ground to use any of the magey type stuff, and it'll wear you out (like krylo's Dark Knight guy).

And I didn't really think of it in terms of evil and good. Vivi wasn't evil wuz he?

Mr. Viewtiful 03-15-2004 05:02 PM

Thanks, BM. With that, here's my tentative profile:

Name: Blyr
Age: 21
Race: Human
Blood type: O+
Class: Geomancer
Weapon and Equipment: Carries a mysterious rune staff, along with a pair of nunchuks as weapons.
Appearance: 6’2”, weighing in at 200 lbs. Athletically built. Brown hair, hazel colored eyes, wears a vest, pants, and shirt, all in semi-camouflaged earth-tones. Also wears leather travel boots and an earthy-green headband. Overall friendly appearance.
Summon: Exodus (the big tree totema form FFT:A)
Bio: I’ll think it up later
Quote: See above

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 05:03 PM

You're obsessed with nunchuks... They aren't even that good of a weapon.

BMHadoken 03-15-2004 05:06 PM

I like the one thats like three big sticks tied together...although I never really understood how they worked...I wacthed that Discovery Channel thingy on martial arts, and they had a battle between Nunchucks and the three sticks thing...still don't know how they work...

Truce 03-15-2004 05:08 PM

No, Vivi wasn't evil, and Black Magic can be used for good. However, Black Magic is inherently evil, its main purposes are for destruction.

Geomancy, however, is a power that concerns the relationship between Man and Nature. Neither are inherently evil in my view.

Edit - I would like to point out that there are very few White Magic using villains in FF.

CelesJessa 03-15-2004 05:09 PM

Random: (while on the subject of weird weapons) I think somebody should use a Kiley sometime. Maybe I will someday... (probably not.)

Krylo 03-15-2004 05:11 PM

What the heck's a Kiley?

Squishy Cheeks 03-15-2004 05:13 PM

A moderately annoying australian popstar?

IHateMakingNames 03-15-2004 05:15 PM

Kiley is a boomerang. I had a character with a kiley once, but the RP died soon after. I should bring him back some time...

It's the weapon version of a boomerage. (Yes, boomerages are NOT weapons! Think about it, would you want ANY kind of weapon that did any good to come flying back toward you? It's like shooting an arrow and it flies to you, pointed end first, not something you want to happen. Boomerages are used to gather fruit and used by fisherman, I believe.) Kileys are a lot like boomerangs (shape-wise), but bigger, and heavier, and they don't fly back to you.

I think that would be a better weapon than the actual meaning...

Boomerangs can be weapons. Go play some Zelda. You just need to be very good at catching it.

Yes, and you can fit entire fish into a small glass jar, and attacking chickens/cuccos will rain down chicken-y destruction on you. (not to mention you can fit a hookshot, a bow, bombs, etc etc etc all inside your hidden inventory)

And for boomerangs to come back to you... they have to be light enough to travel such a distance and return to you... THAT's really gonna hurt. ^^;; heh.

Also, the kinetic motion is transferred into the thing it hits, so... it would just hit the thing you were attacking and fall to the ground, (which is what Kileys are designed to do)

(The useless things I learn in school. ^^; )

If the boomerang has a sharp enough edge and is thrown with enough force it would go through the target and come back to you.

Plus, you have to add in the fantasy world weapons thing, giving all weapons an extra kick to them so they work better then in the real world.

But it would still lose a lot of kinetic energy slicing through the targer. If it still had enough energy to fly back to your hand with ease, it would be hard not to slice your arm, or even kill yourself while doing it (or you're lucky and you dodge it), or it would land on the ground short of where you are.

yeah. I wasn't sure if we were discussing the real world or the fantasy world though. I was referring to the real world. ^^;

EDIT: oh yeah, and boomerangs are also used for sports.

I had a boomerang. The only time the thing ever returned to me it hit me in the head and knocked me out. After that I broke the thing to peices and burned it.
