Activision and Blizzard merge

Linky

Yay? Nay? WTF? Call of WarCraft: Fantasy Warfare?

Zilla 12-02-2007 01:40 PM

OH god!

What the hell?!

Blizzard and Activision? That's like merging cheese and mayonaise, or covering grapes in meat gravy. They're so totally different from each other!

Also, What about StarCraft 2??! I hope they leave each section to their own things, I mean, Activision has no real basis in RTS games or games like Diablo, and Blizzard has absolutely nothing to do with anything Activision has put out.

This is such a weird merger!

Tendronai 12-02-2007 02:06 PM

The only possible perk I can see from this is Activision might be able to breathe some life back into Starcraft : Ghost.

But, odd choice of partners, to say the least.

Eltargrim 12-02-2007 04:41 PM

As long as the development teams stay as they are, I see good things coming from this.

Increased stability and security being one thing. Blizzard having the resources of a developer with experience on the console to help parallel development. Both having increased cross-platform abilities, and cross-genre ideas.

I'm relatively happy about this, myself. It'll have to be done carefully, but it has a lot of potential.

Canceled as part of a unilateral good will reorganizing.

I'll take "Call of WarCraft: Fantasy Warfare?" for 500, Trebeck :D

But seriously this is weird. These are like two pretty damn different companies working together here and it'll be interesting to see if it will be for better of worse.

Eltargrim 12-02-2007 05:06 PM

Forget Call of WarCraft, I just realized something.

World of Starcraft actually has potential now.

In the event that WoW ever dies down, Activision has the FPS experience to make the gameplay work, while Blizzard has the creativity and MMO experience to make the logistics realistic.

WoS actually looks more than a pipe dream now. I'm overjoyed.

I WILL FUCKING END YOU DFM!

Don't even joke.

Also I would heartily endorse Activision breathing more life into Ghost.

Mirai Gen 12-02-2007 07:03 PM

I dunno, this seems odd but it really feels like a way for Blizzard to pass the Starcraft Ghost buck on to someone else. And that's about it.

Yea, i think I agree with you.

This is more left field than a Final Fantasy end-boss.

Death by Stabbing 12-02-2007 08:45 PM

Wow...I never saw this coming...

I wonder who's going to be a guest character in the next Tony Hawk? an Orc I'll bet XD

And Starcraft Ghost is the new Duke Nukem Forever...it's never going to happen.

Like that guy who was in college long before you and will still be in college long after you've graduated...he's never going to graduate...not because he's not smart but because he's always changing his major.

DFM 12-02-2007 08:48 PM

Yeah, but didn't Blizzard actually say that Ghost was never going to happen? As opposed to 3DRealms which keeps saying "We're working on it, guys, honest"?

Khael! 12-02-2007 09:21 PM

Why do I keep hearing the Imperial March every time I think of Activision Blizzard?

Seriously this franchise is going to succeed through sheer force of combined cash. And then WoS if things pan out the way we're hoping... What a creepy alliance.

EVILNess 12-02-2007 09:26 PM

Did it say if they are changing either name? Are they going the hyphen route ala Squeenix? Hmm... If they were smart they'd leave the names alone.

EDIT: Edited for personal stupidity, Activision Blizzard it is.

Also from their Activision Blizzard press release:

Fix'd.

As if Blactivision wasn't the best name ever.

Well 3d Realms just goes "Seriously we're working on it," and Blizzard goes "We lost all of the programmers due to a simultaneous get-up-and-leave, so we're not working on it right now." A little different, mostly due to levels of honesty.

And given the fact that Blizzard hasn't done an action game (well maybe The Lost Vikings 1 and 2 counts), I'm kind of glad.

Okay fess up. Who did you rip off that name from? You couldn't have possibly thought that up yourself as it is filled with so many layers of genius.

P-Sleazy 12-03-2007 12:41 AM

Pssst. DFM is a genius.

Gonna have to call shenanigans on that.

Also, I wish that this merger will make a Diablo 3 and Warcraft 4 (you know they have to make one) release much sooner... like much much sooner.... like right now... pretty please?

Lord of Joshelplex 12-03-2007 09:26 AM

Blactivision sounds like Blacktivision, something Black Steve from Code Monkies would probably name something. I hate that show, so I dont know if it is actually from that, anyone who does wathc it, wanna verify?

DFM 12-03-2007 02:33 PM

While part of me wants to defend my genius and literary prowess the rest of me feels incalculably silly confirming that "Blactivision" is my own independent property.

Ugainius 12-03-2007 02:38 PM

Well, this should ease EA's takeover process.

<<

You heard nothing Seriously I kid

Elminster_Amaur 12-03-2007 04:04 PM

My takeover process? I don't recall any plans to take over Blizzard or Activision.

Man, a Worlds of Starcraft would be awesome, but I don't see it happening for another, uh, 8 or 9 years, because that's about how long Blizzard always takes to make anything. So, if they have had the idea already, we'll see it on the shelves by 2016.

Kerensky287 12-04-2007 12:03 AM

Actiblizzard still sounds better to me. Or Actiblizzion.

Yeah... it makes no sense. I thought it was a rumour...

Then you clearly don't understand the EA mentality.

I just kinding check for Invisatext

Zell 12-04-2007 04:13 PM

Blizzacktovisonard.

... spell check does not agree.
