Game Over

I saw the first episode on UPN and I have to say, I was impressed. I thought it would be real kiddy/corny humor at first, but as the show progressed, more adult humor showed itself. I just don't think it got enough publicity and ads before the premier.

I was really amused by the different game references they showcased throughout the program. I didn't think television producers knew that much about 'em :p I think they characterized Billy perfectly. I never knew a compulsively trendy 13-year-old could be so likeable.

It has me hooked. I give it my seal of approval :)

[Edit] Oh yeah, and Turbo was a little more raunchy then I thought would be allowed on UPN. Come on, he said a pet they wanted to get had sex with every animal in the store. And he called someone a crackhead at least twice. Not that I minded much :D

What, you mean it was good? Wow, I missed it because I thought it would suck. Guess I need to watch it this week...

Never even heard of this show. What time does it come on? If it's about games and adult humor, I am totally down.

yeh when does it come on?

Well, I saw the rerun of the premier episode on UPN on Friday at 9:00pm. But, I think the real new episodes are shown every Tuesday on UPN at 8:00pm.

It's a show about a cg video game family that consists of a father, mother, son, and daughter. They all represent a different type of game. The father drives racecars for a living and routinely blows his car up in a fiery explosion. The mother is a Tomb Raider-esque government secret agent who can always be found leaving the house through the kitchen window and going to dungeons and killing stuff with her sweet guns. The son is a BMX-riding skateboard kid. He always keeps up-to-date on the latest trends with his two-way. The daughter...I can't really figure out. She's kinda like the RPG person I guess, based on what she wears.

The kids are both 14 and the family struggles with the same problems as normal families. Parents aren't home enough, so they get a vulgar, bad-ass (dog?) as a pet.

They also have two Shaolin warriors living next door.

The show keeps the game references interesting, even adding a reference to anime in the opening episode.

I didn't think it was all that hot. The humor wasn't all that great, and at least in this first episode, the plot seemed all over the place.

Part 1: Everyone comes home to dinner
Part 2: Mom has to go to "work", so dad takes daughter to mall.
Part 3: Daughter buys first bra, hilarity ensues.
Part 4: Mom & Dad don't have time for the kids, so resolution is to get a pet
Part 5: End up with lousy, slimey thingie that claims to be a pet. Apparently photographs imply ownership... Eh.
Part 6: Show drags on for a bit, where it should have ended w/ Part 5. Pet being a bad influence just seems to be bad case of padding.

True, my negative reaction is somewhat based on me having a bad reception (in terms of TV snow), but read into that as you will.

Plus, the SFX really grated on my ears after a while...

Yeah, I guess the plot was kinda put together in a hurry. And the ending was a little sappy. No, it was very sappy. I didn't have a problem with the SFX, though. I guess it was because I was drifing into sleep from my burnt out day as I was watching it from my bed. Had it turned down a notch. Still, I think if they try harder in the next few episodes, they could be on the verge of something. I don't know, I take everything with a grain of salt.

Okay, sorry. New episodes are every Tuesday at 8:00pm. My bad.

EGM did a short story about that a loooong time ago and made it seem rediculous, so I decided to miss it. From the little part that I accidentally saw had the boy saying something, can't remember what. He was the stereotypical "cool rebel skater kid thing" so I changed the channel. I hate those charactors.

The descrip I read in...uhh...some generic computer game magazine, I forget which, it might have really been called "Computer Games", made it seem like a fairly interesting show. There are supposed to be guest appearances by actual game characters, and the writers/producers allegedly worked with actual game developers to get the "feel" just right. Plus, who can resist Patrick Warburton? That guy has the greatest loveable-idiot voice ever.

Of course, since I have said before and will likely say again, I actually think I have negative cable. I don't even get the basic network channels...but, as a bonus, I do get not one, but two, lovely religious stations, and as much static as my little heart desires. Maybe I'll have someone tape it for me.
