The PSP
I'm getting a PSP soon, and was wondering what games I should get for it.
Dracula X Collection is already the top priority but other than that? I'm thinking Metal Gear Portable Ops(maybe Ac!d 1 or 2 if I find it cheap) and Monster Hunter. Opinions, warnings? Also how's the Katamari for PSP? And what are the good RPGs(other than the Disgaea remake, already got the PS2 original)? Also anything I should know about the hardware, importing, necessary accessories and the like. I've heard to get a Japanese PSP as they're cheaper and better(also they're available at the site I use for less than AU PSPs are locally even with shipping:stressed: ) and have an English language option. And I'm not planning on doing the homebrew or modding thing. Note: I already have a DS, so no "Get a DS they're better" please. |
I should hope no thread with a "What games should I get for blank system" would be laquered with "get a better system".
Squad Command, definitely. Maverick Hunter X if you're a Mega Man fan. A nice big memory stick should be at the top of the list so you can get your Super Metroid on. |

And Super Metroid you say? Maybe I should look at the homebrewing more closely. How difficult would that be, and anything I should know about firmware and the like before I buy it if I plan on doing that? Also big memory stick, got it. |
What genre are you most into?
My suggestion would be FF Tactics. The controls felt a bit weird on Katamari.. |
Sidescrollers, Action-Adventure and RPGs are my favourite genres. But really anything other than Sims, Sports, Racing and minigames are good.
And FF Tactics sounds good. |
Oh also, Silent Hill Origins.
I loves me some horror gaming. Disgaea when it comes out. I have to say that the Ape Escape series is a guilty pleasure and apparently there's a fair few of them for PSP. Bomberman, doy :) Lego Star Wars I also hear many many good things about MGS Portable Ops, so good choice. I'm not sure you should totally rule out minigame games. After all, portable gaming is great for waiting on trains/in airport lounges so minigames would be great for those points where you aren't hanging around long enough to get into serious plot/gaming. |

If you want homebrew then it's advisable to get a fat PSP. Slim PSPs can only be homebrew enabled through use of a Pandora battery, which you need either an already hacked PSP to make, or a battery to hardmod into one. I belive Pandora batteries restrict what kind of memory card you can use with it and other stuff. If you get a fat PSP at a certain firmware or below (2.70 FW is the highest firmware you can hack without having to spend some cash) you have no need for a Pandora at all. It's worth it because the PSP is pretty limited without homebrew IMO. Emulators are very good on the PSP and will always be better than the DS's homebrewed emulators. The PSP does have some really good games on its own though. TOTW: RM is a decent choice if you like jRPGs. And there's always the coming Phantasy Star Universe PSP for you. |
...You're aware that MGS: Ac!d is a card game, right? Imma huge fan of both Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, and that was the deciding foctor when I got my PSP - but the whole card thing was a bit of a shock. MGS: PO is a continuation of MGS3.
Give this a looksie - most of the games there are pretty neat. I'd suggest getting a wide genre of games. |
Mmmm...
Joan de Arc is a good RPG, Disgaea (the Etna mode is kinda fun),and I still say it's a good one for just those two. |
D&D Tactics, it kicks ass.
